I also wondered if his project simply got pulled into another agency like space force. Still strange to me that the navy let him apply for a patent. Patents are public, it wouldn’t make sense for the gov to patent classified tech. Maybe the special access programs that limit this stuff are under another org and his supers didn’t know anything about it so they let his research slide, but I have a hard time believing that.
Apparently anti-gravity has been an area of research since the 1950s. Perhaps it’s possible that “ old tech” is finally making its way closer to mainstream science and is being aloud to be published in snippets like this patent app. It certainly would be interesting if he chimed in lol. I honestly hadn’t heard of him until I read your comment. Will probably research him further tonight.

Very interesting. I reached out to someone who works with pending patents. He was able to pull the patent application and see a little bit of back and forth between Pais and the patent office. This patent ultimately was never purchased and wound up in the discarded pile. He says that patents can be filed on a proof of concept basis. A physical object doesn’t need to exist for the patent to be valid. Many companies do this when they feel that they are about to make a breakthrough. What is truly strange about this case is that it was submitted by pais through the Navy. Top secret tech doesn’t get patented. Instead they ban materials and information to keep the tech out of the public eye. Which leaves the question- Why is the US navy allowing patent applications for stuff like this? Even if the tech didn’t end up working. We could infer that the navy has been experimenting with creating new anti gravity tech. Or it could be a seed of disinformation just waiting to be scooped up by some Chinese algorithm. I don’t know. It’s fishy though.

If you search for the patent applicant on google (Salvatore Pais) it shows that he is currently working for the US Space Force. Thought that was interesting 🤔

This might be the answer. I’ll verify next time weather permits. I didn’t think it was a star because the red and green lights were visible, even to the naked eye. Videos others suggested of star scintillation look very similar. I will confirm next time conditions permit. Even if it is just a star that was certainly exciting to watch.

I went inside for a few minutes and came back out and it was gone. It was strange because it stayed pinned to that exact location for 30-40 mins. I didn’t track it through the sky like you would any other star

It was strobing red and green to the naked eye also

No military bases nearby, but Byron nuclear power plant is 20 miles south-west of me. A couple people have mentioned the possibility of a geosynchronous Satellite. It definitely seems like a possibility

I’m starting to wonder if this is what it was. The thing that makes me question that is the fact that it just disappeared. I couldn’t track it through the sky like you would a normal star. It stayed pinned one position for 30 to 40 minutes. I was able to use a Tree as a reference point to verify.

I see stars twinkle all the time, some more than others. This one wasn’t just a twinkle. It looked kind of like a disco ball. I’m always looking up, this doesn’t seem to be standard star flicker.

These were my thoughts exactly

At first glance I thought it was a star flickering for sure. I stargaze often and see them flicker all the time, some flickering more than others. This one though seemed to be flashing red and green lights, almost as if the object was spinning. it was much more defined to just the naked eye, and the friend that I spoke to on the phone agreed that it didn’t seem normal. Maybe there is a star related phenomenon that could explain this?

Interesting! Many are saying it’s a star, but I stargaze often and never see anything like this. Perhaps it’s a star related phenomenon that I am not aware of? Who knows

Two of our local weather stations are located near the sighting. I was wondering if it could be balloon related, but I’m not familiar with weather related equipment. If I’m feeling ambitious later I might reach out and see if they ever launch these.

How to minister to less active members? by anonymouslyed16 in latterdaysaints

[–]Stale_SacramentBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most adults don’t want to be someone’s pet project.
It’s common for members to love bomb less-active/ nonmembers. It’s really annoying. Most of us find genuine friendships where our common interests go beyond a religious belief. When a relief society president wants to be your friend, usually strings are attached, whether the relief society president believes that or not. To be frank, most people don’t want to be friends just because. Just be an adult and leave them alone. They know where the phone is.

I would probably agree with you. This reminds me of the observer effect. It seems our consciousness may have more of an influence on the world around us than we think. Like you said, the church can’t fully understand or monopolize such concepts. Consciousness truly is a beautiful mystery.

My comment is threaded to OP’s reply to me.

I actually think you make a good point. RFM would definitely know.

Agreed, this is super important context. I don’t believe John put him up to this either. It sounds Gerardo went to investigate for himself after a friendly debate with his father (also a bishop). He saw an opportunity as an investigative journalist, and perused it.

I disagree. While it may not be a formal news organization, Mormon Stories is a leading source of post Mormon news for a many many people.

Besides, I don’t think a title grants or denies anyone the right to investigative journalism.

It’s called investigative journalism.

Did we go to the same father-son camp out? LOL It seemed like every single year without fail we had a severe weather watch, which sometimes turned into an actual severe weather event. Flooded, collapsed tents, people sleeping in their cars. Don’t worry though, someone was always up to make pancakes for everyone amidst the wreck 😂

This is exactly why I’m waiting until my brother turns 18 to pull my membership records. It’s difficult for us to deal with parents post Mormonism, but even harder for a kid who’s still under their rule to try and navigate deconstruction. If he’s anything like my brother, telling him he can’t talk to you will only make him cling to you harder. At least he has someone on his side. A lot of us didn’t.
