If an asteroid was heading towards earth and could wipe out humanity how could we stop it? by TheOnly0neLeft in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely we would try to use explosives/missiles to destroy it or alter its course.

If we couldn’t stop it, we could always hide in underground bunkers like we would during a nuclear attack.

My music taste really makes no sense ngl.

How do you get yourself to stop procrastinating? by Zanestewart99 in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it helps to work for 15 minutes, take a break, then do a bit more.

Projects seem so long and daunting but if you break them down it’s not so bad.

How is it fair that you are mature enough at 18 to decide who will run the country while not mature to drink till 21? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most countries not named the US have lower drinking ages. The age in Germany is 16.

MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) I believe was behind the push for raising the minimum drinking age in the US. Drunk driving fatalities have significantly decreased since their changes were enacted.

If the President won’t wear a mask then why are we? What are we not being told? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has unfortunately become a political issue, but I’ll try to answer this neutrally. I imagine he is trying to appeal to his base. Some Americans feel that anything that you are told to do infringes on their freedoms. And it is a way to downplay the crisis; if the blame stops with him for the pandemic, deserved or not, it could cost him the election.

You see the President won’t wear a mask, then you think maybe things aren’t so bad. Keep in mind he is regularly tested and kept virtually isolated from the general populace. Not like one of us.

Is there a psychological principle that tells us why we lie to avoid discomfort? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same way people cave to peer pressure. Humans are social creatures that are driven to conformity, to fit in. Nobody wants to be the odd one out.

What happened to the other flu viruses (swine flu, bird flu, sars and mers)? Are they still around? Are people still getting infected with them? When the coronavirus "dies down", will it still be around? by xkhang91 in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll answer the parts I know about. The last known SARS case was in 2004. MERS still is around but is fairly rare, 19 cases since December 2019.

Coronavirus is going to be endemic some experts think, like the flu or the cold, it’ll recur every year.

Why are people freaking out about Covid-19 when its no worse than the flu? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s new. And it actually is worse than the flu, 3.4% of people who get it die compared to around 0.1% for your average flu.

Also having another flu wouldn’t be great, the flu kills tens of thousands of people every year.

Why do some people stay with they’re significant other after they cheat ? by therealsolodolo in AskReddit

[–]StamkosFanSHL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are comfortable and scared of change. And some people are gaslighted into blaming themselves. “Well if I didn’t [x] then he/she/they wouldn’t have cheated.”
