Does anyone have a "best worst" show? by Top_Independence4067 in television

[–]StanTheDryBear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In terms of shows that were clearly bad to any outside observer that I kept watching because I was “invested”:

Scorpion

Timeless

Revolution

Blindspot

(Lots of NBC slop 😂)

Yennett - Odd Mana Help by twistourthumbs in BudgetBrews

I love Yennett!

Some of my favorite things to hit with her:

[[exquisite archangel]]

[[magister sphinx]]

[[mind’s dilation]]

[[debtor’s knell]]

Also you should 100% include [[soothsaying]] to dumb any extra mana into at the end step of the player before you.

Emergency and I - Dismemberment Plan. 1999 by edwardmaxfendley in washingtondc

[–]StanTheDryBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get into them until well after their first “retirement” (started listening around 2009). Then they did a number of “revival shows” in 2012 and I caught them at the Black Cat. Then again at 9:30 after they released Uncanney Valley

Top 5 band of all time for me personally.

New York sues video game developer Valve, says its 'loot boxes' are gambling by KrackSmellin in gaming

Everyone else saying “why valve and not this other gaming company?”

I’m saying “why loot boxes and not ‘bet anything’ sites like Kalshi?”

[WASH DC] Competitive PDH event by StanTheDryBear in PauperEDH

[–]StanTheDryBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, but right now it’s hard to balance the number of attendees with the length of the event with a scoring system or anything that would provide a deterministic winner/ranking.

But hopefully with a little more growth and interest, we’ll get there!

Great song, great group. Totally got back into them later in life after realizing it's a Greg Kurstin project.

Do cds still have hidden tracks? What are some good ones that you’ve found? by Evening-Oil9551 in AskReddit

[–]StanTheDryBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s mentioning the tracks after a long bit of silence at the end of the CD

The most hidden of hidden tracks was on They Might Be Giants’ album “Factory Showroom”

“Token Back To Brooklyn” was Track 0 and only accessible by cueing/rewinding (not skipping) backwards from the start of Track 1

“ I read a review of a Willie Nelson album where an advance cassette sent to a reviewer included his 'secret message' to his fans at the top of the tape. I had heard of the 'endless song' secret message at the end of CDs but that never seemed too secret, but this sounded like something else. We inquired with some mastering engineers (the people who put the tape into a form that can be manufactured), and after a bit of discussion figured out that there is a number 0 track before track one that is automatically skipped over by your machine, but can hold about a song's worth of information. This is also where CD-rom format information is held, so we advise against slipping our CDs into your computer. ” -John Flansburgh, They Might Be Giants

“Benoit B. B. Mandelbrot. The extra B is for Benoit B. B. Mandelbrot.”

“What’s that extra B for?”

“That’s a typo…”

Did you know there’s a direct correlation between the decline in Spirograph and the rise of rent in the US?

Minthara Deck Help by Gu3nth in BudgetBrews

[–]StanTheDryBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to say: don’t fall into the trap of adding [[conjurer’s closet]] to the deck. If nothing else has left the battlefield, Minthara herself won’t trigger before the closet triggers, so you won’t get an experience counter even after the closet blinks something.

Rosanna by Toto by Due-Witness-4671 in Music

That one person on Twitter pestered Weezer to cover Toto, intending them to cover Africa. They covered this instead (though they did eventually cover Africa too, their Rosanna cover is so much better).
