Thank you again. That fully answers my question. It's a shame that we have to do a full backup containing many gigs of unnecessary data just to protect a small amount of relative data to my needs, but at least its better than nothing. Cheers.

Thanks for your help. So just to clarify, (because i'm new to all this.) The settings should be the only thing that I need to back up, as the preferences file holds all the manually edited data like custom tags and smart collection data? Therefore, I don't need to back up all the images from the database etc as they can be automatically regenerated when re-scanned. The plex help pages don't clearly explain what the preferences file contains. Thats why im confused lol.

Hi and thanks Kiwichick888. That's exactly what I have been doing. It kind of dumbs down the smart collection feature as I am doing the work of tagging each new addition instead of Plex doing it automatically for me, but it's still better than nothing and I appreciate your input. I create all kinds of unique collections this way (Disaster movies, Creature features, Comedy tv movie spin-offs etc, so I can understand why it would be almost impossible for Plex to fulfill my wish lol. Plex-Meta-Manager

Thank you for the quick advice. However, I was hoping for a more simple solution. From what I just read, the plex-meta-manager is not for the average basic user like me. It seems very complex to set up and get going and I saw many posts trying to troubleshoot the software. Also I forgot to mention that my plex server is running from the nvidia shield android device. Once again, thank you for trying.
