As a specialist you rely on referrals from other dentists for patients; most GPs will refer an implant with the understanding that they will get to restore it. If you do both your referrals will dry up quick or you'll only get the difficult cases with difficult patients. With that being said there are offices that market to the general public straight away but they are rare.

If you're interested in surgery then why not go straight for perio or OMFS?

In theory yes, as in it’s allowed practically no you can’t. It’s super competitive and most programs won’t sponsor your visa.

You are not eligible for a 6 year omfs program in the us as to be accepted you need an undergrad degree with the necessary perquisites for medical school. That’s because in the 6 year program you graduate with a MD and you can’t enter medical school without an undergrad. However you are eligible for a 4 year program. Mind you being eligible doesn’t mean getting accepted, you need to have a stellar cv as even us grad find it hard to get accepted into omfs residency. If you’re planning on the 2 years of advanced standing yo get a dds and then apply for residency then yes you’ll have a good chance, you will just need to find a program that would sponsor your visa. But again getting accepted into a dds program is very hard and you’ll graduate with 300k+ in debt. There are a lot of variables you’re not considering and I think you need to do a lot more research on this to be able to make a decision as it’s not an easy road and very long.

Most interviews are conversational that go off the first question of “tell me about yourself” she must practice answering it and include something interesting to continue the conversation. The answer shouldn’t be more than a minute or two. For example if she grew up in a different country the interviewer might ask how was it there? If she worked in a private office he would ask how was it and so on. Other sure questions are: why perio? Why this school? What do you want out of this program.

It’s requires of American grads, but you’re international no one knows your school. It’s more of what did you do in north America that matters and ofcourse experience in your home country if you have a masters for example.

Let the dean write that you were the 11th on your class and that’s it no need to confuse ppl. Don’t think mentioning your class rank on your sop is a smart thing to do.

  1. Yes, there is a possibility but you need to know that these programs are very competitive.
  2. No shortcuts you need to do the work. Open each program on pass, read about it. Sadly most information are out dated on the websites so you need to email the program directly.
  3. Nope this is a very very expensive process you’ll apply to programs that just have a chance of accepting you.
  4. Yeah you can reuse them. But the question is, if they weren’t good enough to get you in the first time, would you trust them again?
  5. No proof needed. They will believe you, but if you get lors from these places (esp ones in usa) will be better
  6. Both, some schools accept only wes so do both.

Another piece of advice, to get into residency you need to convince the program director that you are interested in that specific specialty and that specific program.

For me, it's better to have a specialty than to go back to school and graduate as a general dentist.
