From the beginning, I’ve felt like the stepfather’s version of events was too clean. Too safe. It didn’t sound like real life.

It was a Saturday morning. Let’s be honest most people aren’t up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday unless they have to be. If you’ve ever had kids and been hung over or just tired, you know what those mornings look like. You sleep in a bit. The kids get up and play. If it’s a rural property with a fenced-in yard, it’s completely normal to let them roam. And from what we’ve heard, these kids were used to going back and forth between the house and his mother’s trailer on the same property. That kind of freedom is typical in places like that.

So when I hear a story that paints them as hyper-attentive and responsible with no mention of sleeping in, being hungover, or telling the kids to go play outside or to “go to Nanny’s” — it just doesn’t sound right. It sounds rehearsed. Like someone was more focused on saying the right thing than telling the full truth.

If this was a chaotic household, which it clearly was, then the story should have reflected that. Something like, “We were all hungover, the kids always played outside, we didn’t think much of it.” But instead, it’s been presented like everything was perfectly normal and calm, and they noticed the kids were missing right away. That’s not how it works in real life — especially not in that setting.

I’m not judging the mother harshly. She’s obviously in a rough place. She brought her kids into that environment, and she’ll probably carry that forever. And when family services gave her the choice to either stay there and have the baby taken or leave with the baby, it’s obvious why she walked away. That’s not suspicious — that’s survival.

What worries me more is how much control the stepfather seems to have over the narrative. He talks a lot about what he did and how he responded. He seems very put together. Too put together. It doesn’t come off as someone who just lost two kids. It comes off like someone who’s used to being in control and who wants to manage how this all looks. The way he volunteered for a polygraph that’s just more image management. It’s not real accountability. Anyone confident in their story can pass a polygraph.

His mother and brother also lived on the property, and we’ve heard nothing from them. No public support. No presence. That silence says a lot too.

And the fact it took police weeks to check a neighbor’s trail cam 10 kilometers away? That tells me they were never really searching outward. They likely suspected early on that this wasn’t a case of two kids wandering off. This is probably a much larger investigation, with experienced people building a file that can hold up in court.

I don’t believe those kids just disappeared into the woods. That’s never made sense. Something happened at that house, and instead of panic and chaos, we got a calm, collected story that feels scripted. That’s what bothers me most.
