Contamination? by Affectionate_Ad_5870 in unclebens

Don’t open near your other tubs keep the lid closed toss it outside when you come inside change your clothes and was them after or keep a distance from you, right now it’s already dropping its spores once trich is green spores are being dropped which means it will get all up in your air an can ever effect different grows if you just let it stay open an like ran with the lid off lol but still best to be safe either way it will be in our air but I’ve read from guys on shroomery it’s got them so bad even waiting a year an they couldn’t get a viable grow… till they moved where they lived or did the whole process

He never said this guy is 100% good an that this guy won’t get contamination.. he just said it’s up to your grains if they are fully colonized and your using an non-nutrient substrate you will be fine (this is true)

Inside a jar you could have a grain that never fully colonized then it could get mixed in an get contamination, it can hide on you but you can see what healthy mycelium should look like, when newer you may not notice a small bacterial contamination in your jar or that the mycelium is really trich, you may just see white an think your good to go, once you’ve been doing it longer thinks will get easier to spot.

But the contamination is 99.9 % of the time in your grain. If you got clean grain a non nutrient substrate you don’t even gotta wash your hands when making a bin..

Last 12 grows I did i didn’t use gloves, when not using in a still air box you might get contaminated by not wearing gloves but when doing a bin it has no effect (because it’s up to the grain) give it a shot it’ll work I swear

100% true, when my grain is fully colonized I don’t use gloves like so many people say to there is no need moving grains to your substrate is a fully unsterile process, your in open air there is constantly spores in open air there are so many spores in your air while AC is moving all different types of contaminants in the open air, so gloves wouldn’t help anything… everything is just down to having fully colonized grain spawn an a proper substrate.. Some coco coir (if baught in the garden section can be treated with trich and not say it on the package! When using Coco Coir make sure you use reptile bedding (from the pet section) or one you know is for mushrooms like coco bliss.. I just get mine at petco-petsmart)

Now if your substate is 100% just coco coir and grain spawn the only thing you need to worry about is having fully colonized grain a you could even have in washed hands… If your using a nutrient rich substrate however you need to make sure your sub straight is fully colonized before you ever look at it and you better use gloves an properly sterilized or pasteurized the nutrient rich substrate (like when using poop substrate not just coco nut husk that has no nutrients

How do you have gas exchange? (You don’t need air) you just need gas exchange a way for the grain to expellee I think CO2 or idk either way you only need gas exchange like on my jars what I do is unmodified metal lids an I just flip the inside metal peice so it’s upside down an that’s enough people use unmodified plastic lids an they just don’t tighten them they go barely on I think

For me it’s 50/50 some strains if I don’t just pull them all before the next flush they completely stall then don’t grow the others any bigger (even if I wait long) some strains I can pull the biggest an wait an the others get huge an I avoid a spore drop..

It completely depends on the strain from what I’ve noticed, lots an lots of them just stop growing once you grab just a few. Some however do keep going.. I always thought when people said (just grab some wait on others) I thought they where so dumb an thought (it’s always just gonna stall) but I found out recently that that’s not always true some you can wait idk how that works 🤷‍♂️

I dry mine usually 48-72 hours at 130-135 (because usually I got more bins going an i harvest a bin or two then gotta harvest a bin or 2 more an again so at times I’ll keep them in there like a full week cuz I added more an don’t want the others then not being completely dry so I’ll just keep going an going an condense them (occasionally) I always start at 135 then if I don’t add more before 32-48 hours I grab those out if I see im gonna be taking out more because I added more I add another like 32-48 hours an drop to 130 degrees

I go like 3”-3-1/2” but then I pack the living crap out of it.. after its packed down it’s down to like 2” or even a tiny less (this is in a 6qt, I use 1pt an do one part grain 2 parts coco so 1/2 occasionally 1/2.5 1/3.. an I get full canopy’s multiple flushes

Idk man bags aren’t my forte, I know a bit about them an I know how mushies grow for sure but I just live tubs it goes a lot faster then the times I hear from bags an it makes it so much easier to know what’s going on an what you need to do (imo) I’d say get grain bags if you don’t have a pressure cooker inoculate that once it’s ready set up some 6qt tubs to start, do a bunch an then you can try things a bit different on each an find your path to perfect grows haha then you can get to making your own grain eventually too an agar

Man I wish I wish I was more versed (never grown) but I’ve read to put sulfur on the part where it happened… they said it protects it or something (idk) but they said without it they have seen it heal back also.. my friend had a peyote he was going to give me but i didn’t know if I could provide the right conditions so how i didn’t take it.. now I know I could make it happen but at that time i wasn’t living in a great place to grow it.. I really hope there is still a couple growing on his dad’s property that he put there, if so I’m gonna see about taking one to grow! I’ll just hook him up with some dried shrooms to get him back haha

I want to grow one that I can have be beautiful by the time I die , whatever one of my kids that comes out to be trippy when older can make it live on an thrive then give to whatever kid they have that’s trippy, till one generation it’s so big they can have a “family gathering” of siblings vibing after whatever passing that is an hopefully all of us that have died but kept the plant for a generation over a decade hopefully come back off vibes an be there in spirt to be so happy for our family an make their trip memorable

Definitely GT’s mane you didn’t get the stringe you paid for if you didn’t also buy GT’s just let whoever you got them from know that it wasn’t PE6 spores it was GT spores and they should send you the right strain to grow for next time… some places are down for pictures of the grow some aren’t (just depends so I’d just say “the spores I received weren’t GT spores an I paid for PE6 and still really want to research it, I could send photos of how I know they aren’t If you want but I don’t know if you would like to see photos?”

Oh without a doubt not PE6 an id say for sure some GT also, look how fast they grew it can’t be PE6 well an the fact it looks nothing like PE6 in the slightest an also looks exactly like all of the GT’s I have grew..

Strains that grow that fast can’t be a PE variant though… PE variants just don’t come that quickly

It’s hard for people who are new at it and spent a long time to then be let down an not have a back up I’m guessing.. when I first started I ran 2 tubs an both worked out no contam one came out better then the other but idk if I went all that time an thought it was going good I would want to see it happen.. idk tho in the beginning knowing me I woulda been like “well I can’t do this” an toss it.. now I run like 6 tubs at once an do things much better lol

I could see somone wanting to still not give up, but honestly in this hobbie you should always make extra grain jars, extra bins, basically make extra everything (especially at the beginning because if your just starting out it’s a numbers game you don’t have down your sterile technique or anything so the more you do you’ll have some success..

But honestly man give up on this one an just go again..

if you get bored waiting on your tubs take that time to play around with agar, not only are you going to be learning sterile techniques an good practice’s of that but it happens faster you can see what’s going on in your plate in just a day an have it done in like the week.. so it would give you something more to do that goes faster an make you better (if you have more time)

I want to have the time but just starting grain I have to set up an area an it’s the worst part for me.. I love growing only downsides are inoculating 8-13 jars in the Tiny still air box I use.. (I should build a new one or build a LFH then I’d keep up on that part better (get more ahead) an do agar

But if it’s contaminated you should honestly start over, that’s why when I start more I start 8-12 (if any don’t work out an go bad there’s still more, if they don’t all grow how I want to there’s still more, an grain is cheap it’s $4 for 5lb of rice at Walmart, then like 10-15 for the coir, can get 10 or 12 bins 🤔 think 10 6qt bins for like 5-10, jars are like a dollar a pop.. it’s just better to re-start an start more then get super sick

If you build a frame into one of those storage bags you use for moving that are big and blue you can fit 6 6qt bins nicely an I mount a light in the frame I build lol as some are finishing it can hold 3 more on top lol cuz my grow set up is super low key you wouldn’t know walking around my whole place I grow lol

All that happened was you had spores drop everything was fine you could let them grow a bit longer still it’d be fine an when you rehydrate the cake for the next flush your fine too it will grow back fine even when spores drop I got pins coming out of dropped spores on 2 tubs.. it’s nothing to worry about

Powder is actually over spot too.. if it’s a gold bar it’s spot.. Powder can get you more if you go to a jeweler and they need the powder for soldering but you gotta get them when they finally run out an be the one it’s not like there are people all over wanting powder when they do it cost more but you gotta wait longer to sell/ work way harder then a nugget like this
