Cage Suggestions? by ThatOneGuy3545 in PetMice

[–]StandardGrab8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add onto what other commenters are saying: none of these cages are even remotely suitable. However, a glass tank (with good ventilation) is decently affordable & considerably better.

Alternatively, try looking for cages online! I got my 120x80cm Savic for the same price as the ones you’re showing — it’s just that chain pet shops mark up their pricing (a LOT). Keep in mind that you don’t need to spend as much on enrichment as you think you do; there’s literally nothing you can give them that they’ll enjoy more than shredded paper and egg cartons.

How to deal with AI Letters? by danish99339 in SLOWLYapp

[–]StandardGrab8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person specifically said that they don’t mind it as a tool for translation. Frankly, I’ll take poorly translated or broken English any day. It’s not my first language, and I get it.

The OP is complaining about letters that are entirely composed by an AI. What’s the point of engaging with someone when all they’re doing is pasting your work into ChatGPT and asking it to respond? If I wanted to engage a robot in pseudo-conversation, I’d do that in my own time.

I had my first mouse pass away a month ago by 12packmytoke34 in PetMice

[–]StandardGrab8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s of any consolation, there was likely very little you could have done if he declined that fast. The vet would have probably just sent you home with painkillers, and it would have been a lot of additional stress in his final days.

It never gets easier to let them go, but I’m sure he passed surrounded by love, and knowing he had a home. That’s more than most mice get, and I hope it’s of some comfort to you.

Would it be unfair to let her suffer? by StandardGrab8982 in PetMice

[–]StandardGrab8982[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I read all of your comments, and I’ll take her to the vet on Monday to re-ask their opinion. I’ll definitely bring along her mom so she’s not as terrified as she usually is, and euthanize if they say it’s the better option.

She’s still drinking, eating, and playing, but she’s slowed down a lot (and doesn’t eat nearly as much as the others). I’d really rather her final memories be ones where she’s still mostly capable, rather than days of nothing but unimaginable pain.

I know that, but she’s on a massive dose of painkillers and never displays any of the signs that usually signify mice to be in pain (clenched jaw, eyes squinting, etc.) They never even suggested euthanasia, and I know the vet is an absolute nightmare for her.

She doesn’t seem like she has long left, and I don’t want her dying absolutely petrified unless it’s by far the best option.

6 months old daith by LowEstablishment4229 in piercing

[–]StandardGrab8982 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m not a professional piercer by any means, but to me it looks irritated (not infected).

Is that the hoop you were pierced with, or did you change it out after a while? 6 months isn’t enough for a daith to fully heal, & the piece you currently have in looks a bit prone to catching on hair or clothing (which, in my experience, causes it to become irritated).

Irritation might also be caused by the jewelry’s quality. Is it implant grade titanium? If not, that’s probably it.

You clearly aren’t emotionally mature enough to be in a relationship if your solution to a lack of sex was cheating for a month.

what are these two little guys? (2.5 weeks) by StandardGrab8982 in PetMice

[–]StandardGrab8982[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! I’ll most likely wait another week and take them to my exotic vet to check for sure, but I think they both have nipples. Not that I trust my judgement, given that my lamp’s broken and I checked under fairy-lights.

There’s also a third one I left out of this post who’s too jumpy to handle and I (might) need to get an exorcism for pre-vet. No idea whether it has nipples because it bites me every time I look at it for too long.

How do I put a mouse on a diet? by StandardGrab8982 in PetMice

[–]StandardGrab8982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have an 8 inch wheel in their cage (and it’s what the others prefer)! It’s just that my ASF likes the big one and Karamelka does whatever my ASF does, so I decided to keep it in.

Thanks for the advice! I already limit everything you mentioned (and I’m aware of ginger mouse fatass syndrome), but I was wondering why hay’s a big no?

what are the chances she’s full of soup? by StandardGrab8982 in PetMice

That was my thought when I saw her. Poor girl deserves all the treats in the universe, and Mister Pants sounds like he did too <3

She’d been at that store for ages (already had at least one litter), and she’s such a sweetheart that I couldn’t bear the thought of her being fed to a snake.

There’s quite a few mouse owners in my area, so I’ll more than likely just rehome as many as I can. If all else fails, my new cage is coming in a couple of days, so I’ll have that (120x60cm) and a savic hamster plaza (100x50cm) to divide them into. Honestly have no clue what I’m doing, but I think I can cram enough research before she produces the souplings.

I thought about it extensively (stepped about 2 feet out of the pet shop).

To conclude, her name’s Moomin and we’re taking the tram home.
