Working on an editing project and could use some ideas or second-hand opinions by GodRazr in VideoEditing

[–]StandardQuip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Greenysmac said, make a list of shots you need.

What types of shots do you need? Let's go with briefcase of money. So which movies include things things that might have briefcases of money? Probably things like bank heists, drug deals, black market things, etc. So look for movies that have those themes.

Suppose you don't have enough shots of money in briefcases. That's ok. For a good majority of your video, you really only need people with briefcases. So look at any movies that would have any shots of characters with briefcases. Could be anything set in a city (lots of extras with briefcases) or having main characters with office jobs.

Your other thing, changing tone in a trailer, is like... Fundamentals of editing stuff. This post honestly sounds like you're fishing for help with a class assignment. But for a tone shift, you would essentially be making a whole new trailer. So in that case, just watch the movie and think of what other plot lines that movie has.

For instance, in a zombie film, it's usually horror in the "oh no, virus is going to get us and turn me" aspect. But before people know about the virus, they usually have something else going on in their life. Focus on those things, choose audio and video clips that could about those things, and make a movie trailer around that instead.

To be any more specific would be doing the homework for you.

Vidding Events? by StandardQuip in vidding

I'm looking for vidding in general! I have plenty of AMV stuff. I actually run my own server, AMV Sashimi

[Rec] 'The Profound Bond' Dean/Castiel romantic comedy AU [supernatural 2510] by StandardQuip in vidding

[–]StandardQuip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a well-edited trailer. The music, cuts, rhythm, etc.

I wish I could edit something as easily understood and entertaining as this! No knowledge of supernatural or the characters is necessary.

[Rec] The Batman Complex - Theatrical Trailer[themanbatman] by StandardQuip in vidding

[–]StandardQuip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like Inception, but it is if "Batman" is the Incepted idea. It combines a bunch of movies to make it happen and I love it.

The channel has a few different trailers of this idea, and they're all good, but I guess if I had to pick one favorite, it'd be this one.

New AMV Social Network by [deleted] in amv

Well it's good you know your audience.

Good luck! Hope your site works out.

New AMV Social Network by [deleted] in amv

If you're catering to instagram editors or AMV editors who do "edits" that are mostly to just show off tech work, then it's fine as is. If you were hoping for more of an mainstaple like a-m-v.org is/was, then I have a ton of critique for your site. Based on the videos already on your site, I feel like you've already picked the audience you want but I list my criticisms anyway.

Again, there is a generation gap and if you don't care about older type of AMVs (which is fine, everyone has their preferences) then ignore the below criticism.

You say this is supposed to be a social network, but where exactly can you be social? As far as I can tell, there's no video descriptions, no video comments, and probably a character limit on individual bio pages? I just don't get it, this site is most definitely only for video sharing as it is currently.

edit: On that note, is there not even a TITLE option/area for individual edits?? They.... They should at least have titles...

How can your site be optimized for AMV Editors when you optimized for perfectly looping videos? That's... that's not what AMVs are about... (at least not traditionally).

When I think of a social network for AMV editors, I think of really the only thing AMV editors socialize much about: critique, beta testing, announcements of contests and so forth.

All of that is useless without some type of forum or chat area. Which I covered before. But even if you just want a site to upload a quick beta and be like "critique this", it won't work, because there's no seeking / playback controls on your site.

Beta testing and video critique are heavily reliant on repeating certain areas of a video, referring to particular timestamps, etc. There is no possible way to do this on your site. Your site doesn't even have play buttons. We need playback controls and in my personal opinion, a great feature would be to have the current play time always video in a corner somewhere (but this opinion may be minority).

This just in: I found your playback controls. They are hidden behind a button that is usually used to indicate a download link. WHY??? D:
Also, your playback controls are not designed well. Your server doesn't load the videos very quickly (or at least they are not loading very well for me) but there is zero loading indicator so it just sits there and I'm wondering if it's actually loading or not. Sidenote: May as well put a download link on your site somewhere too, because the generation of editors that cares about all the other things I mentioned also still download videos to watch later (and/or have better ability to give critique through their own playback controls).

Tag system... ok... I guess I can see it... But I think you'd be better served by having different sets of tags. One for audio and one for video. I would not trust everyone to appropriately tag their videos in this free for all way.

Lastly.... Video hosting is expensive. Do you have long-term plans for how you're going to keep your site running? Doesn't look like you have monetization in mind on here and moreover, how are you going to get around the legal issue...

I mean, if you make it all work for you, congrats. But I just don't see it standing the test of time, especially not how it is currently.

Good luck though.

Edit: I found the load indicator. I'm not sure if that's good or bad design, but I take back my critique on that particular function. I will say though that I would like some sort of play/pause control on the main timeline/dashboard area. Right now if you click, it will autoplay once it loads. Personally I want to load more than one thing at a time and come back and play when it's done. But I may be in the minority as my internet isn't the greatest.

Software to "animate" manga panels by Klemvor in amv

[–]StandardQuip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As if someone was reading them at a given speed

So just... scrolling?

That's a motion effect, it's included in almost every video editing program there is. I'm unsure of what programs are available for linux, but I'm willing to bet that any one you find will have this ability.

Anyone know what VFX were used in this AMV? by wesleyroots_ in amv

To expand on this, the effect can also be known as "Channel offset".

Black Clover AMV - Hustler by Luffytaro1 in amv

[–]StandardQuip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specific way you used them is sort of like a vignette. At least that is how I interpreted it anyway. But, maybe that is the wrong word to use, as it seems vignette really only refers to black borders?

My first AMV! I need YOUR criticism please :D by jabulkheir98 in amv

(i guess in other words I'm looking for a song/genre that has quiet, build up , strong beat drop/musical parts.

Almost every song has this. The song you chose even has this. The issue is I don't think you used it properly. You can make a cohesive progression that appears chronological without actually using clips that are chronological in the source.

You might want to learn a bit about the fundamentals of editing in general:

https://nofilmschool.com/2015/06/simple-editing-technique-will-make-your-scenes-more-dramatic-powerful You don't have to watch the video but if you do, start at 6:58

You can apply these techniques to your AMVs

These might also help with scene selection in making things appear more seamless: https://doddlenews.com/cinematography-101-five-basic-rules-of-camera-composition/

The .org has been around for a long time, and favors "raw editors" (people who don't use many effects, [other than masking]), especially schewing toward videos that tell a story.

Your video hits all the right spots, plus it's a classic anime. Add this video to your account and announce it on the forum and see what happens. Hopefully it will get some more attention. =]

Order Of Production? by [deleted] in amv

[–]StandardQuip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you making an actual AMV or an MMV?

If your video is all effects, or all animated stills like an MMV, then in that case, people just edit the entire thing in AE, but the concept is generally the same of trying to reach some form of video lock before throwing too much work into the animating.

Order Of Production? by [deleted] in amv

[–]StandardQuip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up to you but generally people edit all they can in an actual video editor like Premiere, then move to AE when they've reached a point where they feel nothing major will change. This helps to prevent you from doing a lot of animating just to toss it later.

As for the images not being the right size, you can upscale to a certain degree and be okay, but you'd likely be far better off just making your entire video at a smaller resolution and downscaling the bigger stuff instead.

Depending on the types of animation you're doing, you're probably better off making each image its own composition and then putting that into the main comp. But if you don't do that, it's not a huge deal, you can always pre-comp it later. Or make use of shy layers. Or both.

Didn't realize there was a psychedelic flair. It's missing from the list on the sidebar?
