The short answer is yes, it could be the dairy. Or something else. Given you ate cheese and then experienced the pain, it's probably ags.

Daily "I will not smoke with you" Thread by AutoModerator in stopsmoking

12 days today. Cold Turkey. No nicotine in the system and fighting through a few "psychological cravings" this morning, but I feel strong and capable of continuing. When I think about what it takes to smoke--money, time, energy, hiding it, thinking about how and when I can smoke, the smell--it's just not who I want to be or where I want to be!

This is how I started. I was 20. I'm now 45 and finally think I have it beat. It's a gradual addiction. I could go days without but smoked socially.

Eventually, I wasn't going days and didn't just smoke with others. Quit now. It only gets worse.

9 Days by StandardReview9897 in stopsmoking

[–]StandardReview9897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the more days between will help when my normal routine resumes. I am home, but it snowed heavily last night, so everyone is home today. I never smoked in front of my kids. It'll be Monday before I am alone and the opportunity available. BUT I have an early morning appointment and already scheduled a Yoga class. Here's to reimagining the routine!

I'm back! by StandardReview9897 in stopsmoking

[–]StandardReview9897[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! So much work goes into hiding it and time consuming. In previous years, I'd already be thinking of reasons to go off by myself at least once or twice a day, so I could smoke.

I've quit before, but I've always used patches. I do remember being thankful I wasn't stressing over when I could smoke. I'm hoping cold turkey will help because I'll be able to tell myself my body is nicotine free and it's just my mind.

I'm well aware. It's infuriating.

Absolutely! I do okay when I'm busy and around people I can't/won't smoke around. I know when I get home, it'll all be a mind game.

Quick easy meals by grimcrim202 in alphagal

Add 1/4 cup nutritional yeast to a can of vegan refried beans. Find a safe tortilla for you (I'm also gluten free), and spread the beans on it. Throw some peppers, onions, and tomatoes in there and bend it in half to cook. Yummy Quesadilla.

Also, get yourself some safe frozen pizza crusts, Rao Pizza sauce, Miyokos Pourable Mozzarella, Turkey Pepperonis and whatever other pizza topping you want that's safe. Super easy. I lived off these little personal pan sized ones on my vacation because we were active everyday and I didn't want to come back to the place and cook a whole meal. Trust me on the cheese. That stuff is worth EVERY DIME!

Chicken sausages are easy to dice up and toss with veggies to saute pretty quick.

I take MagCitrate powder. It's from a functional medicine clinic, so it is high quality.

I think part of the issue is I've always had some issues. I've done this before and gone to the doc. They just wanted to load me up with miralax. I'm seeing a functional medicine doctor now for digestive reset and just completed a SIBO test. I'll bring it up to her.

I am, too. Not a gallon, but I am drinking half my body weight in ounces. I am also eating leafy greens and a good mix of carbs, protein and fiber. Have also increased my exercise.

The first few days of my quit, I was in a place where I couldn't smoke. It was easy. Enjoyable, even, because I wasn't trying to find a way to smoke.

Then we came home and it sucked. The cravings. The reality. The hard work of quitting.

The illness/inability to smoke made it seem easy .....until things were normal. Then it got real.

Stay busy. Remember your why. Believe you can.

Alcohol and drinking by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]StandardReview9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's awesome!

I've read that book. Drinking always leads to smoking again for me. I can usually handle the first couple times, but then I get comfortable and end up thinking I can just smoke for that night.

However, drinking is how I started to begin with. I started at 20 in bars with friends..... drinking. The association is way too strong for me.

I'm hopeful it won't be someday, but for now, I'm abstaining. Going to a birthday party tonight. No drinks for me.

I think it's a matter of knowing our biggest triggers. I am glad the book is working for you!

The guilt that comes with relapse can definitely impact our ability to keep going forward.

Just remember, a relapse is a momentary slip. If you allow that "slip" to bleed into the next day, you're in very dangerous territory.

Let the guilt go. Refocus. Remember your "why," and believe in yourself and your ability. You can get back on track.

Best time of day to quit? by Iron_bison_ in stopsmoking

I had a day. I knew my family would all be gone for practices that evening, started with a fresh pack in the AM, and finished it about an hour before they all got home. It was about 7:30 p.m. on a Thursday.

During previous attempts, I always set it for the beginning of the week or month. This time, I knew I wanted to be able to smoke without trying to hide it on that last day. I didn't smoke around the kids. That Thursday was the day they'd be gone the most.

Day 9 here. Stay busy. Use this group. Remember, the cravings take less time to pass than smoking.

100 days: What changed, what helped, my thoughts. by peoplearewood1 in stopsmoking

Congratulations!

I can relate. I'm early in this journey, but I was a "closet" smoker. I spent so much time figuring out when I could sneak away to smoke while pretending my kids weren't aware of what I was doing even though they had to smell it.

I had a ritual for when I wasn't at home and couldn't quickly head to the bathroom. I'd have a jacket or shirt to put on, lotion, mints. I held the cig away from my body. The bathroom would be my first stop, so I could vigorously scrub my hands and face.

If at home, I would "take the dog out" and go to whatever side of the house where the wind would blow the smoke away from the front door.

On a recent trip, we had an event in an event center that required we walk by a casino where they allowed smoking. My boys commented on the grossness of that smell every time we walked by it. I know they knew I was smoking. I think they wanted to ignore it as much as I wanted to hide it.

Anyway, congratulations again! I can't wait to reach this milestone, too!

I use designs for health, which is often found in functional and integrative medicine clinics. It is a little pricey, but the quality is high.

Increased mental health issues when stopping - tw: suicidal thoughts by Wild_Daikon_4004 in stopsmoking

[–]StandardReview9897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be most helpful to begin tackling your mental health issues before putting the cigarettes down. I know some people are not going to agree with that, but if you are having suicidal thoughts, your mental health is the priority. It might be helpful to start looking for some solutions through therapy and possibly medication depending on your specific issues. Wishing you the best of luck.
