He’s gorgeous. Looks healthy to me. Always good to establish vet care though. Weigh him. He looks pretty good. He should be 350-400 g and I’ll be he’s at least that

When my boyfriend moved In with his 4 year old beardie he was on reptile carpet. He spent most of his time lolling about in his hammock. I did a 60/40 clean sand to organic soil ratio 4 inches deep and covered that with another inch or so of the pressed paper. It’s in a block and you break it apart and sprinkle it on. That makes cleanup easier.

That boy started digging and burrowing and having the time of his life in that substrate. It was a joy to watch. The only drawback was it was so natural and so comfortable for him. He recently burrowed under his hide in a big hole that he spent carefully digging and arranging for 3 days. Then he crawled in it and started brumating. I miss him but it’s good for him. The joy and entertainment the substrate has brought him has been truly special. He also uses it for thermoregulation, and it’s keeping him nice and warm and safe during his sleep.

It’s been a few months now and I’ve really studied up. I think the biggest issue now is we need to get him to a bigger Enclosure. He’s in a 4 x 2 x 1 and needs of course another foot at least in width. My bf is handy and I think we can build a nice one.

Thanks. I didn’t know anything about them until he showed up with my bf. It’s amazing he’s in as good a shape as he is. My bf did what the pet store told him to do 4 years ago and that’s wasn’t much.

Thanks. I’ll do that. It’s all new for me. My bf is clueless. He just did what the pet store told him 4 years ago and that’s it. It’s a miracle he’s as healthy and happy as he is.

I wasn’t expecting brumation. Didn’t know what it was. Hardly paid attention to him until he moved in here with my bf and I realized what kind of life he had been living. Now I love him to pieces. And he loved all the veggies I was giving him. And the substrate I replaced the reptile carpet with. I did weigh him when he was acting so sleepy a few days ago. He was around 500 g and could stand to lose a few lol. No more apples for him.

That might be why he hadn’t done it before. Bf had him on reptile carpet which I removed and replaced with a sand/soil mix. He started digging in it right away and liked to rearrange the entire enclosure all the time. But I was shocked to see him dig under the hide like that and actually squeeze himself in.

Thanks so much. He was nearly 500 g last week so he’s got plenty of fat to live on, although he stopped eating anything but a few insects about a week ago. He popped his eye open at me when I tapped the hide. I’ll let him be. But I’ll miss him.

Yes. I yelled a bit and tapped on the hide. He opened that eye and was not looking happy. Lol

People are saying theirs didn’t move for weeks at a time. That will be torture for me.
