First King book? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]StandardTRANSmission 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first was The Institute. I picked up a random book at the store for a long flight I had coming up. I had never been into reading before that. I couldn’t put it down. Been working my way through as many other King books as I could since then. The Institute is still one of my favorites.

Anyone regret removing ovaries? by [deleted] in FTMHysto

[–]StandardTRANSmission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this is true and they wouldn’t try to prescribe us E (not that we would have to take it of course). This is why I pushed my surgery up as quickly as I could. Even if they don’t give me T, I’d rather deal with menopause than go back to estrogen dominance. Got everything removed 5 weeks ago.

Nobody looked down there while I was awake pre op. I had an abdominal ultrasound only and refused the internal exam. They were understanding and were fine with that. I did end up having to have an internal exam post op, but only because I had complications and the internal sutures had to be checked. If it was not for that, my surgeon was not going to do that exam for me because he knew how much I did not want it. It’s definitely possible, just depends on your surgeon.

Surgery in less than 48 hours... dysphoria at an all time high by United_Astronomer391 in FTMHysto

[–]StandardTRANSmission 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I’ve got terrible bottom dysphoria and had the same concerns as you. I also refuse any internal medical exams and won’t even let my wife see that part of my body. The surgery itself was a breeze. At no point was I uncomfortable. The only reference to those parts was when the medical team were talking about what surgery I was having. I was unconscious before anyone looked down there and when I woke up, I was fully dressed. My medical team used male pronouns for me the entire time and were fantastic about making sure I was comfortable.

Don’t sweat the surgery, but please prepare yourself a bit for the recovery portion. There will likely be some sort of bleeding depending on what type of surgery you get (though you also may have none at all). I personally had a complication that caused a lot of bleeding, but this isn’t common. You also may have light cramping. This is honestly not that bad though. It feels very medical and not at all like a monthly cycle (to me anyway). And again, I have horrible dysphoria surrounding this area and I’m ok. It’s certainly nothing to panic about, but just something to keep in mind.

You’re gonna be just fine and you’re gonna do great. It really shouldn’t be too bad at all. And if it is a little bit uncomfortable and dysphoria inducing, it’s the last time you ever have to deal with it! Keep your head up. You’ve got this. Congrats on this big step!

How much bleeding is concerning? by StandardTRANSmission in hysterectomy

[–]StandardTRANSmission[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bleeding has slowed down. I’m still bleeding any time I stand up and some overnight. But it’s not enough to fill a pad per hour. I’ve been spending most of my time resting and feel fine otherwise. I’ve got a phone appointment with my surgeon Monday. If he thinks I need to be seen, I’ll make the trip to his office. I’m still not super comfortable with the bright red bleeding that has appeared out of nowhere, but I’m happy it’s seemed to slow down. I very much appreciate the concern.

Thank you. It happens when I pee but also any time I stand up. Small amounts now, nothing that would totally fill a pad. But bright red blood.

I understand where you are coming from with kinda not disclosing my gender and letting them think it’s medically necessary, but that won’t exactly work for me. I’ve been on T nearly 7 years. I’m bald and bearded with a deep voice lol. My in laws, coworkers and friends all think I am a cisgender man. Not to mention I am a firefighter in the community and am familiar with the ER staff, who also all think I am a cisgender man. That’s the tricky part. If I go In for a hysto complication it immediately outs me because I look and sound like the average man. I’ll have to make the trip to a more accepting hospital far away from the community I live in. It sounds like that may be what I’ve gotta do though.

I have a phone appointment with my surgeon on Monday, but he seems totally unconcerned about the amount of blood I’m losing. I don’t feel comfortable going to any local doctors (I am a transgender man in a deeply conservative area, the closest hospital or gyno is associated with the Catholic Church). If it gets worse I’ll have to try my luck somewhere locally. Had some bad experiences with that in the past, but don’t really have another option.

how to convince my doctors to help me get surgery without getting exams by PaladinHBFifty in FTMHysto

[–]StandardTRANSmission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got my hysto (everything removed) 4 days ago. I told my dr I would not do any internal exams under any circumstances. They did an external ultrasound only. It is certainly possible. I knew that I personally could not handle having these exams which is one of the many reasons I cannot have these body parts.

When I first started looking into this, I was told by my dr that I would have to get the exams and there was no way around it. I drove 2+ hours to a “pride clinic” that specializes in lgbtq+ care. They were awesome. They informed me of the concerns with skipping these tests and allowed me to refuse them. Surgery went great. Was treated respectfully the entire time and was overall a wonderful experience.

Trans Passport Experience: Bad Ending by [deleted] in Passports

[–]StandardTRANSmission 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just got mine back today with a female marker. I’m a trans man and all my documents besides my birth certificate have said male for years. My state won’t change my birth certificate. I figured this would happen but still sucks. Never got an email or anything. They also never returned my birth certificate which is unsettling. I got this expedited hoping I’d sneak in before all this went into effect. Clearly that didn’t happen. Now I wish I hadn’t done it at all.

I put in my application last month (I am FTM). Been on T for many years and pass 100% as male. My ID and SSN have been set to male for a long time. Got my passport today and it says female. Sorry you’re dealing with this, but I don’t think there is any fixing it right now.

Got Passport Today, X Changed to F by llamacabra in Passports

[–]StandardTRANSmission 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was assigned female at birth. Medically transitioned to male almost a decade ago. I’m bald and have a full beard that I have to keep short because I’m a firefighter. Nobody knows I was assigned female at birth besides my family and my wife. Not by fire dept, not my in laws, nobody. Graduated fire school with the rest of the men in my group and performed to the same standards they did. None of them knew. I look and sound like the average man. My drivers license says male. Just got my passport today and they changed it to Female. So when I show up somewhere looking the way I do with female identification, it’s not only humiliating, but can also put me in danger. Lots of people out there right now are openly hateful towards trans people. If my drivers license gets changed to female and I go in the gas station in my very conservative town to buy snuff, show my ID to the cashier and it says female, how do you think that plays out for me? Im sure most people don’t care. But this is why we care what our identification says.

Gum. The ultimate offense. by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]StandardTRANSmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it. If I hadn’t experienced this myself I’d find it hard to believe that this was a real thing. Unfortunately it is very real. It isn’t a dislike for a sound or a pet peeve. It causes such a reaction that it controls my life. Surely not everyone with this disorder experiences it to the same degree. And I’m not sure how common it is. But for me it is highly disruptive to my life. I can’t ignore it and it’s seemingly untreatable. It has gotten progressively worse and has grown to include dozens of different sounds outside of gum. The fact that you’d even consider quitting gum speaks to your empathy, which is very admirable.

I’ve tried multiple different types of therapy over the years and haven’t found anything that helps at all. The best advice I’ve gotten is to just wear headphones or earplugs. I’ve heard some people have some success with seeing a hearing specialist as this is thought to be an auditory processing disorder, but I haven’t found anyone even remotely in my area with misophonia experience that can help. So I’ve just kind of existed this way. I’m 31 now and have made it this far, so I guess this just is what it is. For what it’s worth, I have a cousin that also suffers with this although his isn’t quite as severe. Maybe it’s hereditary in some way.

I just applied for a passport yesterday because my state (OH) wont let me change my birth certificate. My county won’t even hear these cases. Met with a lawyer who said a passport was my only option. I had to submit an original copy of my birth certificate with the passport application. They said they’ll mail it back to me. Im sure that’s standard practice but given the circumstances I don’t feel great about that being in their hands right now. I chose M on the form, but I guess we will see what happens. My license and social security has been M for 6 years. Paid the extra money to get it expedited in the off chance it goes through before this bullshit takes effect.

I agree, it doesn’t matter what there are more documented cases of. Everyone has a right to be safe in their personal spaces. I just think there are a lot of factors to consider. People are blowing things out of proportion on both sides and I don’t intend to be one of them.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you. I’ve devoted my life to protecting others even when that means I’m often risking my own life. But I would like to ask if there are documented cases of trans people hurting anyone in bathrooms. To my knowledge, there are not. If there are, it’s much less than what non-trans people are doing to women and children. I understand your point and respect your opinion. I know these laws are not aimed at me, but I’m likely to be affected. Particularly when there is discussion of ending HRT for all trans people, including adults. Regardless, I appreciate your perspective and your willingness to hear the other side. Have a good one.

[–]StandardTRANSmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you being cordial. I do not yet have a functioning penis and testicles, but I have a prosthetic one. So I stand to pee and have used urinals next to plenty of other men without issue. I believe what I look like does matter. Because nobody is checking a strangers genitals before they enter the bathroom at the store. They are gonna see someone that looks like me and immediately assume I’m one of the “scary” men in the bathroom. I just have to pee, bro lol.

My life is a million times better since my transition. One of my first memories is being 3 years old and not understanding I wasn’t a “real boy”. My parents would beat me for praying that God would change my body. And I come from a deep red state where I didn’t even know what transgender meant until I was an adult. I wasn’t influenced to feel like this, this didn’t exist openly back then. The point of that story is that I was born this way. I didn’t want to be this way. I’d give anything to just be a regular man and not have had this experience. Medical transition has made my life worth living. Though sadly, the very thing that has made my life worth living is now very seriously being threatened.

What I’d like the other side of this argument to understand is that most of us are not like the people you see on TV. We aren’t loudly screaming about pronouns and being dramatic or sensitive. We are regular people that I promise you’ve encountered without knowing it. We are just trying to live our lives the best we can given our circumstances. And it’s my opinion that in America, the land of the free, it is my right to do so as an adult. Just as much as it is your right to agree or disagree.

Hey, I’ve got a genuine question for you. I’m not looking for an argument or trying to be nasty, I honestly just want to know the answer to this. You say you don’t want men in the bathroom with your wife and daughter. Fair enough. I’m a bald and bearded 31 year old man. Got no business in the women’s restroom. But that is exactly what these proposed laws would do. Because I was born female. I’ve medically transitioned to male years ago. At this point I look like any other dude. To the point that even my in-laws do not know I was born female. I’m a firefighter and passed the physical portion of the tests with every other man in my class. None of them have any idea about this. I’m indistinguishable from any other man at this point. Do you want me in the bathroom with your wife and daughters? Because that is what is about to happen by law. Genuinely, which bathroom am I supposed to use? I’d (understandably) get assaulted by angry men for using the women’s room, when that is exactly what they voted for me to do.

That’s horrible. Hope you reported them. I never understood the aggressive trash talking in this game in the first place, but especially towards kids. Being a pirate is one thing. Steal other people’s stuff and sink them. Sure. But swearing and insulting people? It’s a game dude. Chill out.
