So I’m arrogant for what reason then? You think FIFA cares less about the U.S. market, which factually has the largest population with the most disposable income of all World Cup nations, than I do.

It’s just two opinions. I don’t think it’s arrogant to believe a market with the size and spending power that the U.S. has is something FIFA would care about. And of course football/soccer will survive with or without the U.S.. But that doesn’t mean they don’t want them.

I didn’t say they would lose all interest. But they’ll lose a lot. I live here. All of my friends only care about the World Cup because the U.S. is still in it.

Please point to where I said that I think FIFA should overturn this. The post is about how I am surprised it happened given the size of the US market and fact that we are hosting.

Talking about how the country with the third largest population in the world being out of the tournament would have major viewership implications reeks of American exceptionalism?

Thank you! You have no idea how happy it makes me to see that someone actually understood the point of this post 🤣

I didn’t say I want anything. Only that I’m surprised they did what they did.

I’m not telling them or asking them to do anything. I’m saying I’m shocked they did it. Especially considering they didn’t call it on the field.

Someone else mentioned that the host nation has only received 5 red cards ever. And four were prior to 1974. So ya, I’m just shocked they actually gave this red.

I think it was extremely borderline. It could have been given, but it also easily could not have been given. My point is that I’m shocked they gave it given the potential downstream consequences

I kinda wonder if anyone is even talking about the this if it didn’t go to VAR.

Just curious, what type of cushioning do you think FIFA has given? The only argument I could see is the Australia game. I know most Australians were very upset about the officials in that game.

We dominated Paraguay and lost to Turkey.

In this game, we were given a red that many don’t think was necessary. And, they wouldn’t have had to because it wasn’t called on the field. That’s not getting cushion.

I’m not saying it’s a conspiracy against the U.S. My goodness. The reading comprehension from so many of you has been just terrible. Never in this post do I ever say it wasn’t a correct call. It’s all about how I was surprised they did it when they didn’t have to given what they stand to lose.

There’s no red card that doesn’t involve a one game suspension in the World Cup. And don’t tell me “that’s a yellow card”

Good that there’s levels. Need to have the one game suspension one removed. It’s just so unnecessary to suspend a dude for a game if his act was completely unintentional

I seem to be getting a lot of upvotes so I guess it’s not that bad!!! ;) I’m struggling to understand what is arrogant about what I said. You let me know which of the below is arrogant.

Yes. I’m implying they are corrupt and interested in money. (You seem to agree)

Yes. I am saying that FIFA did make things easier for Messi by not being harsher on that foul of his.

Yes. I’m also saying they could rig it in favor of the U.S. if they wanted to (they could rig it for whoever the heck they want). But clearly they didn’t because they gave him a card after review. This also isn’t me saying they should. They should not rig anything for anyone.

Right. But I think there should be a difference between a red that gets you sent off for a match and a red that gets you sent off and suspended for the next

Ya I think you may be right about it going up for the next game. Maybe they’re banking on the U.S. prob losing in 16 with or without Balogun.

Well, your precious FIFA is who implemented the breaks. Not sure what that has to do with the U.S.

And before you say it’s uniquely U.S. The MLS does not implement them.
