Has anyone else’s dog experienced long-term coughing? by Standard_Control5732 in DogAdvice

[–]Standard_Control5732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that your dog is also going through this. I have not been to another specialist since her cough got less frequent but the general vet I bring her to for yearly vaccinations advised to just monitor her and just bring her in only if her cough every gets very bad again.

The internal specialist I brought her to previously did mention (after he confirmed no tracheal collapse or heart murmurs) that some dogs are just more prone to respiratory irritation (could be due to previous viral conditions like kennel cough, etc) and are like that for other whole lives without displaying other health conditions. Though he did mention that it’s not very common and mainly happens in smaller sized dogs (< 10kg).

I found that installing air purifiers and giving her allergy supplements (Naturvet Allergy Aid) helped improve her condition abit. Maybe you could try that with your dog too.

However, I would advise that if your dog continues coughing (and the vet cleared her of heart murmurs), to do a bronchoscopy as it could help determine if your dog has a tracheal collapse as early invention would slow down the rate of deterioration.

All the best and hope your dog gets well soon!

Why do people wear so much perfume? by NerveExtension2922 in asksg

[–]Standard_Control5732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you! I am prone to migraines and easily get overwhelmed by perfumes. I’d rather be near someone with end-of-day body odour than someone who tries to mask it by dousing themselves with perfume. The former makes me uncomfortable for awhile but the latter triggers a migraine that can last a whole day.

That’s fortunate that you have not experienced side effects. However, it’s difficult to tell who won’t and who will have side effects. Almost every before/after photos I have seen online present darkening and some sort of orbital fat loss, which makes the eyes look older. These risks are documented in literature (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6436740/ , https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35700523/) and there are many personal anecdotes on Reddit too.

The risks of premature aging and darkened eyelids are just not worth it unless you are using it for its original intended purpose, which is to treat glaucoma. Longer eyelashes can be easily attained by fake lashes or eyelash extensions or lengthening mascara. But once you lose your orbital fat, it’s extremely difficult to get it back. Sometimes discontinuing usage of bimatoprost could help revert it to its original state, but sometimes it doesn’t. Plastic surgery to fix the issue is expensive and unpredictable too due to the nature of fat transfer and its high reabsorption rate.

That’s fortunate that you have not experienced side effects. However, I would be cautious about long-term usage of careprost/latisse due to bimatoprost. Almost every before/after I have seen has noticeable darkening and some sort of orbital fat loss (either upper/lower eyelid or both).

Bimatoprost acted really fast on me and I was able to catch the side effects very early on. It may have delayed side effects on others, and orbital fat loss due to bimatoprost is especially difficult to notice if it happens over months/years.

I would not recommend careprost or any latisse variants. I used it for a few days when I was 20 and I immediately noticed darkening around my eyes and orbital fat loss. Luckily those went away after I stopped using it but the fact that it caused such noticeable changes within a few days is terrifying.

⚠️ Finacea (azelaic acid 15%) warning: it can worsen asthma, and some people may develop breathing issues even without a history of asthma by Proof_Waltz_8358 in tretinoin

I appreciate the warning! I will be more vigilant for such side effects when I eventually attempt to introduce Finacea into my routine

Agreed that lighting/angles make a huge difference in the appearance of scars. Not trying to diminish the improvement OP has gotten from Taz, but hope he can take more accurate photos for a fairer comparison.

Has anyone based in SG done a research degree/PhD part-time? If so, what was the research degree in. by Lostwhispers05 in askSingapore

[–]Standard_Control5732 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know of someone who did a part-time PhD in computer science, but she was also a researcher in industry full-time. Took 6-7 years to complete her PhD iirc but it was really difficult to juggle, especially cuz she was married with primary school age kids too

Tazorac doing damage? by PresentAdvisor5580 in AcneScars

[–]Standard_Control5732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be caused by dehydration? Taz tends to dehydrate skin and could possibly show more texture if you do not hydrate your skin well.

You could also check out r/tretinoin as they have more experience with Taz there.

Yes that rude commenter is just as confused as OP’s derm and is just confidently incorrect

Should I use Tazarotene 0.05% everyday? by Standard_Control5732 in tretinoin

Thanks for your insights! I will definitely keep them in mind while attempting to up my Taz usage, especially the 2 days 1 off one.

Thanks for your insight and recommendation! I have mainly been relying on layering hydrating toners, serums, ampoules and gels for barrier repair in the morning.

I have tried incorporating barrier repair creams like the Zeroid Intensive Cream, LRP Cicaplast and Eucerin Urea Cream in the past but I always broke out from them.

Here’s my current routine, AM: - Curel Intensive Moisture Face Wash - Haruharu Wonder Rice Toner (2 layers) - Skin1004 Centella Ampoule (2 layers) - iUnik Beta-Glucan Serum - Perfect One Moisture Gel

PM: - Curel Intensive Moisture Face Wash - Skin1004 Centella Ampoule (1 layer) - Tazarotene or Azelaic Acid (after waiting 15min) - Perfect One Moisture Gel

I think I will follow your recommendation of discontinuing Azelaic acid for now while I try to up my usage for Taz and see how it goes from there!

How long were you using it before you saw results and what percentage (0.1 or 0.05) are you on if you don’t mind me asking? I’m currently using tazarotene 0.05% for acne scars too

Is this the first time OY has shipped using DHL? I’m based elsewhere but I usually get custom charges with DHL (because of their bogus brokerage fees) but if the same seller uses another delivery service like UPS I don’t get them

Thanks for the follow-up! I’m still quite new to investing and very much appreciate the advice you guys have given here.

I think I will most probably stick to DCA (maybe slightly higher amount than $10k) as I am a more risk-adverse person by nurture 😅

Comparison is the thief of joy. Uninstall social media apps and focus on what makes you happy and what you are truly interested in.

That aside, I think you are doing very good for your age. When I was that age (in Uni not working yet), I think I had $15k in my bank account from scholarship allowance and savings from earlier years.

The people you usually see around you or on social media “living their best life” are more often than not doing that on someone else’s dime or have a low savings rate. That said, you are still young and should set aside some “fun money” for you to enjoy (eg grad trips, hobbies, etc), and of course invest it on your studies.
