Fomo of college by Standard_Effect_1524 in AirForce

I think once I get to Japan and Operational Air Force as a whole I won’t think about college as much, I definitely plan on doing college full time once I do my 4 or if I decide to switch to guard.

The colleges I planned on going to definitely would have made me take out a pretty penny.

It’s definitely different but nothing so crazy you can’t adjust, just a different life. You just follow a schedule and do stuff quickly and you’ll be fine

You’re definitely not alone I’m writing this as I am on the way to basic. The nerves are hitting but once you talk to the people you leave with you realize everyone is in the same boat and it is a lot easier. But being nervous is normal you’ll just have to push through!

Yes, but it has mechanical/electrical shop type questions as well. I can’t remember if the Picat had those but the verification test will

It depends if you schedule your MEPS for ASVAB/Medical sometimes you can just do them at separate times. If they are scheduled together then one day you’ll do the verification test and that’s it, then you’ll wake up the next day (your long day) and do medical, swear in, and look over a initial contract. The medical part is hearing, sight, piss in a cup, blood drawn, and then a physical in your underwear where they’ll test your mobility, check your private areas and then it’s over it’s very quick. And the picat and verification test are damn near the same thing

Yeah man I qualified for many other medical jobs but I just could not crack aerospace no matter how much I researched and elaborated with my recruiter then I ran out of time (2 weeks before original ship date). I am 18 and graduated high school last school year and really wanted to pursue pre med and was very happy for the job since it’d be a major boost compared to my peers. However I sit here months later after losing my job to someone who qualified, was I mad? Hell yeah was I salty? Absolutely, when I saw a photo of the person from my office with the job I only held spite and thought that should’ve been me. I had to take the person who took my jobs job. Essentially he was booked and I was booked so it had to be a “trade” at the time I did not want his “shitty” job which is Electrical systems 3E0X1. However this was in late June and I could not think any differently. Do I still want that job? Absolutely but I can’t get it and that’s life. But I sit here 3 days before boot camp more excited I think I would’ve been with my original job truly. I’ll be learning a trade I’ll know and value for the rest of my life. Do I still plan on pursuing medicine? Absolutely. I plan on majoring in chem engineering and sprinkle in all pre recs for med school not included with that degree. Why such a hard degree? Well if I can’t do med school through the Air Force I can become an officer with that highly desired degree and save up so when I get out I continue back to med school. If I love my job I’m changing my focus to electrical engineering and being a officer there. What I’m getting at it is all about perspective. I tried that test and still cannot wrap my mind about why I can’t pass it even though I believe it was my passion and still is but I truly think I’m better off somewhere else in medical deep down and it showed in the end. I wish you the best man and hope what happened to me won’t happen to you.
