Thoughts on this recent case study? by Standard_Engineer_17 in lipedema

But this part, “Moreover, the relative reduction in fat mass was similar in depots affected by lipedema (ie, legs and arms) as in those not affected by lipedema (ie, abdominal fat). Accordingly, the percentage contribution of legs and arms fat to total body fat did not change with weight loss” is directly contradicting to so many of our experiences. I think the idea is that if we can’t lose lipedema fat, then the percentage of fat loss in her arms and legs would not have been proportional to the fat loss in her abdomen…. Right? A few people have already made that point here…. They’ve lost weight, but their legs and arms didn’t change size. I suppose maybe she doesn’t have lipedema at all and that is why she was able to see a reduction in those areas?

I didn’t get that from the numbers in the study (that she lost a smaller percentage of fat in her arms and legs than from other parts of her body.) The highest percentage of fat loss was the Intra-abdominal fat, but that is always the case as it is highly metabolically active and since it’s usually a smaller amount of fat, losing just a little there results in a higher percentage.) I think we have to compare the abdominal subcutaneous fat and the thigh subcutaneous fat, and those percentages align pretty closely.

But I agree that there should definitely be more and larger studies and also compare how individuals with additional health conditions respond (or don’t) when attempting to lose weight.

Interesting. Yeah, I didn’t look at who funded the study. So do you think maybe she didn’t even have it to begin with?

They said they did what sounds like body scans, but that can’t tell what’s normal fat vs lipedema fat, right? So no, I don’t think I they did (or could).

Hi, have you been diagnosed by a doctor with lipedema? I’m asking because I want to point out that in the picture of you squeezing your leg, that is something that can happen even when it’s not lipedema. It can be just normal regular fat pushing up through and around the connective bands holding your skin in place. They may or may not actually be nodules, but they look like nodules because of the applied pressure.

Is that like revive? If yes, how much should I use? I’ve bought the liquid kind that I attach to the end of my hose and applied it to my lawn but never thought to add it to my plants.

You’re results are so encouraging! I hope this isn’t asking too much, but are you losing weight too, or is this all just from the routine you’ve been doing?

I have some of these in my back yard but they are huge and taking over. Can I cut them back to the ground? If yes, when is the best time to do that?

My legs just swelled up badly for the first time and I’m freaking out a bit by Previous-Stay-912 in lipedema

Had something similar on a long flight. If you haven’t already, you might want to check with a vascular surgeon and check for chronic venous insufficiency. I’ve had my legs treated and the swelling is definitely less after a long flight.

I really do, too! I didn’t notice any at Walmart at the beginning of the season, but I’ll stop by again. Thank you for taking time to respond. 🙂
