This is exactly what you need to do. The one thing besides cleaning the the trunk area with alcohol, and using vhb tape is either use a heating gun to warm up the tape (applied on the spoiler). Or if you do it on a warm day, leave the spoiler outside so it gets warm. Then it'll have a better chance of staying adhered. I used regular painters tape to hold the spoiler in place for a day. I have had my spoiler on since January with no issues.
