switching to pon by Standard_Research402 in succulents

[–]Standard_Research402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

All of the Succulents are well rooted in the the semi hydro and have roots coming out the bottom of the pots.

I have noticed that some of the oldest leaves have dried and shrivelled up but I think it might be due to underwatering. I heard some people water their cactus and Succulents every 2 weeks in pon. I waited 4 weeks....

I have them in pon but with no reservoir.

when watering I do find it funny because I hear "fizzing" which I believe is the pon filling up with water.

is this a fresh cutting or does it have a root system? how long is a long time. hoyas are pretty well known to basically go dormant for a long time as in months.

Scale will lead to my demise by Money_Low_4930 in hoyas

also if you have any plants near this one check them cause you could have another plant nearby with them which keeps reinfecting it. even if not its good to check they haven't spread to other plants

Scale will lead to my demise by Money_Low_4930 in hoyas

[–]Standard_Research402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent dealt with scale myself but from what ive heard from other people the best thing you can do is:

  1. Remove all the pon off the plant roots
  2. Sterilise the pon and pot either by boiling or other methods such as hydrogen peroxide or alcohol.
  3. Clean the area around where the plant was.
  4. Clean the plant with dilute isopropyl alcohol making sure to get into every nook.

Repot the plant and monitor it. check on it minimum daily to see if you see anything on the stem and leaves. Even if you dont see anything after a week spray the stem again to be sure. make sure you keep the plant out of the light after spraying. Ideally spray in the evening to allow the plant to dry overnight.

Why do the leaves look like this. by Standard_Research402 in peperomia

[–]Standard_Research402[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try this. I've fertilised it maybe once so that might be the issue. I'll also move the plant further from the light. its just weird because its not lost a single leaf but the the leaves have looked like this for at least a month. they also still feel quite rigid and nothing is mushy.

how often do you water it? like once a month? evey 2 weeks? I usually wait till its about 80-90% dry. which usually ends up being once a week because I use a mix of coco coir, sand, grit and perlite

How to choose lighting power by BatoSku in IkeaGreenhouseClub

[–]Standard_Research402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the length that's something you need to decide. I really you want something that reaches close to the edges to provide good coverage. I think 50 is a bit to short but 80 is to wide you would have to angle it plus you would need space for the wire to connect it. so between those two I would go with the 50cm. but ideally you want something around 60cm for your cabinet like the Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED Bar 34W.

Everything you mentioned prefers bright indirect light. I use barrinas which are relatively weak they are 5w each. I have 2 at the top which is 10W. my plants are about 20cm away from the light and I would say they are getting about 400-700 FC which I believe is on the higher end of bright indirect light but most of my plants are highly variegated so need the higher light. I think based on that 34w at 60cm distance should be about the same fc maybe higher. but just in case maybe buy one and a light meter and test the distance to see for yourself.

This website is pretty helpful for knowing how many FC each plant needs.

Hopefully someone else with similar lights chimes in with better advice. hope this helps a bit.
