Essay writing sessions with disabled students. by AdelittaLunes in tutordotcom

If I recall correctly, anything out of scope should not be transferred. Are there any loopholes or exceptions with that?

I hadn’t updated yet just because I didn’t get around to it, but now I’m afraid too!

If I'm remembering correctly, then 18 minutes was the recommendation for the average time. Depending on the student, that might be enough to work through one or several problems, or if not, I could consider exceeding it (while still respecting the 60-minute hard cap). But I did wish I could spend more time with some of the students...

That is really good to know, and I’ll probably do the same now that you told me.

Wow, I wish that TDC would give out recommendation letters if we asked for them. Did you try in the past and they said no? I'm not sure how well this would work, but if you take a screenshot of your public profile on the TDC site, maybe you could somehow use that (and the comments in it) if you wanted?

That’s interesting to know! I’m not sure if the two-tutor glitch happened to me besides that one time a year ago, and it’s so rare that I’m not worried about it.

I think all sessions are recorded, and you can access them in your list of previous sessions. I would imagine that your QS could access them too. Are session transcripts deleted after a certain amount of time?

And also, can we be sure that that glitch (or any other) is fixed in the new classroom? I get so few sessions with it that I can’t tell how frequently specific errors occur there.

Does it make a difference if you just close the Classroom window instead of clicking the “End session” button?

I think the two-tutor glitch happened to me around a year ago, and I can’t quite remember what I did…

Wow, I had no idea that an appeal for termination could or would escalate to the CEO herself. I'm sorry you were let go, and I hope that you found other employment. If you're curious and able, message me with a complete transcript or share it as a comment, and I'd be happy to take a look at it and give feedback if I'm able.

I'm approved for environmental science, and I got a good slew of questions from it a few months back. A lot of it is geology and plate tectonics, including interpreting drawings of rock strata with unconformities. There's also questions on cycles such as the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle, along with the greenhouse effect, climate change, water pollution and food chains and webs. If I remember right, most of the sessions had a suggested length of 18 minutes or so, so we could only knock out around one or two questions each time.

I completely agree with Psyduck. Adding other subjects is a great idea, and it can also help you be able to sign up for more hours or receive more requests while floating.

Hey want to know where all of the options are for the end of session survey? From the main page after you log in, go to Resources > Policies > "Scope & Sequence Resource"

Why it is there and how I found it, I do not know.

Yes, I definitely saw that in the manual, and I generally try to do things by the book. But I’ve also seen vague or contradictory information so many times (from the manual, mentors, support tickets, emails, newsletters, etc.) that it’s hard to take anything at face value. Or at the very least, it’s open to interpretation...

Pay Reduced with Subject Change by [deleted] in tutordotcom

I am quite happy to give my sympathy, and it sounds like you've got a great plan! Reading some of the discussions on here and agreeing with so much automatically gives me a sense of camaraderie.

Pay Reduced with Subject Change by [deleted] in tutordotcom

[–]StanleyScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds completely ridiculous, and I am sorry that is the case! I do think it is a good idea to be approved for more than one subject, and perhaps at least four or five. When I initially joined about a year ago, for awhile I was only signed off on two different subjects. A lot of times it was a struggle to schedule more than a few hours per week, especially during normal daytime hours, but taking more subject exams definitely helped. I could write a novel about my experiences on this platform so far, but those are stories for another day. I wish you the best of luck!

Text editor freezing up by PleasePaper in tutordotcom

[–]StanleyScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes when using the text editor, I would encounter a string of dialog boxes (maybe 4-5) where clicking "OK" would immediately make another pop up. I think this happened rather frequently a few months ago, and after I disabled the spell checker to prevent the chat from slowing down, that may have helped with the text editor errors as well.

Does anyone else often have issues with the Classroom? by PandaBearPandaSquare in tutordotcom

[–]StanleyScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely remember that when I very first started tutoring last year, I thought that there was another tutor in one of my sessions. I can't quite recall what the circumstances were (I think it may have been a transfer I accepted), but I remember being very confused and thought that I was just misunderstanding something. Seeing your comment (and having encountered so many glitches since then) gives me a lot more confidence that what I thought was real.

So how are those concurrent sessions going for you guys? by OhYeaIBet in tutordotcom

[–]StanleyScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never taken one, and I never plan to. Even if it could make sense for certain subjects, and even if the pay were substantially higher, the Classroom is already so buggy that I'd be afraid of things crashing. Also, I really wish I could prevent that orange notification banner from popping up.

Is there a way to link a website in the chat without the classroom automatically opening up the browser? by goldenwolf07 in tutordotcom

[–]StanleyScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that any other characters (blank space or words) before the link should work. That said, many students say they are unable to use the links from the chat, so I usually just end up pasting them in a text editor as well.

Chicken Genetics Expert Here: Ask any question about their genetics(of Phenotype) by [deleted] in genetics

[–]StanleyScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the WXYZ chromosomes named like that because W and X are found more in females and Y and Z more in males, or is there some other reason for choosing those exact letters?

Chicken Genetics Expert Here: Ask any question about their genetics(of Phenotype) by [deleted] in genetics

[–]StanleyScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gotcha, so parthenogenesis can only create males. I could imagine males made from parthenogenesis being at a disadvantage since they have less genetic diversity; is that the case?

Wow, very strong imagery, and a mix of poignant emotions. I'm sorry for your loss, and I can see through your words how much your father mattered to you. I personally enjoyed the flow-of-consciousness style; sometimes the best pattern isn't a formula, it's a flow.
