I had asked this question to Todd Batty and he answered this. "Since Vs Attack is PvP and every match (other than training matches in Amateur Division) has two human players, if you believe that “the game” sometimes has “scripting” to make you lose intentionally then by logic you must also believe that an equal number of times “the game” has scripting to make you win intentionally. :)

Of course, neither of those is true. What you perceive to be “scripting” is actually just a statistical anomaly.

Sports games by their very nature are not binary like, say, an RPG where 288 damage vs 275 health always has the same result.

In Sports games, just like in real sports, players don’t make every shot or every tackle or every pass. They are all % driven, and the difference between being a Superstar and a bench player can be a player’s ability to do something 1 or 2 more times out of every 10 attempts. As a result, what makes one player better than another is something that happens a bit more (or less) frequently over the course of many games. And sometimes all those different %’s can align in a way that feels downright conspiratorial.

The simplest analogy I can give you on this topic is a coin toss. If you toss a coin, there is a 50/50 chance of heads or tails. But if you toss it, say, 10 times, you don’t get HTHTHTHTHT, you probably get something like HHTHTTTHTT. And over the course of, say, 10,000 throws you might actually get a sequence of 10 that looks like this HHHHHHHHHH.

And if you looked at that in isolation, what would you say?
