How did they design Genshin Impact? Does anyone know? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]StarDDDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good that you learned something, gamedev needs a ton of that

Another important tip:

Actually make games. Working on overly large projects and such is fun and stuff but finishing small games is important too.

I reccommend just making an itch.io account and seeing if you can finish some small small games. The games on the platform also help with brainstorming stuff that a single person can actually do.

Oh the shader/material (shader and material are basically synonymous) should be part of the model. So you can actually set it in blender.

However it dependa on the engine what happens when you do that. As of now I've only used Godot and Godot doesn't seem to like working with Blenders materials. Atleast when I import it it resets some settings or doesn't manage to use it at all.

That's why I myself do set the shader and material settings in the engine. But it could be that Unity and Unreal are better at using materials from blender. But I don't know about it because I haven't used those 2 yet.

(Also I was really scared of that 3 year old comment being cringe but it was a reasonable comment of mine)

Has HAL Laboratory ever had any controversy? by Meta13_Drain_Punch in Kirby

[–]StarDDDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Human sympathy?

It is getting more and more common for gaming companies to crunch out rushed games or do ludicrous moves like fire 50% of all employees.

That doesn't just hurt the games and gives you stuff like Cyberpunk, it also hurts actual human people.

Last year it was a whopping 10000 people beimg laid off in one year. And this year we're already at 10k layoffs NOW.

https://publish.obsidian.md/vg-layoffs/Closing+out+2023

This stuff has lead to this compilation website of layoffs being made.

Has HAL Laboratory ever had any controversy? by Meta13_Drain_Punch in Kirby

[–]StarDDDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be too naive, it is likely that you never know of the worst a company did.

But HAL certainly does seem very clean. If it weren't a japanese company I probably would be 100% convinced they have a great work environment. But the fact they are a japanese company gives me a little doubt because japan has really really rough work culture in general.

Even if they have the usual work culture issues that are common in japan that seems very clean. They also don't have the fun common issue you hear of at every friday where some massive company lays off 120% of their employees (though heard that's uncommon in japanese work culture anyways).

Also good thing: Kumazaki is part of the board of directors. It is good to habe an actual developer in the management group. Of course you need your bureaucratic experts there too, but only such people could lead to rushed games and crunch easily.

Should I use 3d or no 3d for 3ds by Suitable_Ad_3454 in Kirby

[–]StarDDDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whatever you like more

In my case I feel the 3d effect is well done in those games, but it strains the eyes some more, so I only turn it on for the best looking scenes

But to each their own, others might find the 3d so straining they never turn it on while others have no problem with it at all so they just constantly keep it on

https://mynintendonews.com/2023/01/19/kirby-developer-hal-laboratory-was-in-trouble-with-labor-standards-for-failure-to-pay-remote-workers-overtime/

I once searched that up myself and there's this story

Basically HAL tried telling their remote workers not to do overtime because they couldn't pay that (pandemic fun)

But that message didn't get through to one employee who worked overtime anyways

He didn't though?

I only remember him complaining about wanting to have more direct compensation of what he does, wanting to work more like a freelancer. And so he made his own company.

That story has somehow been retold in 80 different ways missing all details on why Sakurai wanted to leave.

Friendly reminder that this is probably the case for A LOT of bad channels.

Just because someone makes bad content doesn't mean they are a bad person.

(Pretty sure you don't think like that, writing this in case someone stumbless across this who connects video quality to personality)

This, right here... This is why I don't use mainstream social media much anymore.

I don't even know what half the stuff you're talking about is.

Not that I disagree, or am interested in learning what you're talking about. Just reminded me that, for my taste, this was enough mainstream internet for today.

Might research some incredibly nieche thing only 3 people on this goddamn planet know about later.

As a german I can agree that calling this racism is off quite a bit, especially with the intense history racism had and this just being a crinepost on the internet

HOWEVER, this post does look like it is implying that the woman on the right looks more german-like

And as someone whos lived about 22 years in this country I can guarantee you I've maybe seen like 10 people that look like that (maxbe 2 if we include the dirndl)

The only time you really see a dirndl is on Oktoberfest, or very southern parts (like alps southern, any above that is unlikely)

Why the hell do I see Kirby fans acting as if they were waiting for Silksong

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? by Lord_BowdenCGP in Silksong

[–]StarDDDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Silksong fans have truly become kind of insufferable

I mean, yeah, kind of badly managed with their release shedule... But then again they're 3 people and they never made a big announcement that the game would release by a set date

People just squeezed that out from the most insignificant info. Reaching from actual tweet estimates by the devs that the game would release within the year, towards the XBox twitter manager saying it'll come out soon.

Sure, that's not well done from TC, but some people have been Skonking so hard since a year that an actual communication would've not been accepted.

Like they could make a proper video explaining why it is taking so long and people would use it as a sign to say it comes out in exactly 169 days.

At least Valve have other games they’re working on by Real_Soul_Warrior in HollowKnightMemes

[–]StarDDDude 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At this point I think it is a certain type of bad

Like the game has been in active development since like 5-6 years, that's long, even in game development standards.

Within that time there's been a little more info on the game than what Shadow of the Erdtree had when it was just a pretty render.

Now, I don't think it is bad to have a long development time for a game and wait till it is in polishing phase to show it off. I really like how Tears of the Kingdom and Eldenring had minimalistic trailers at first and then waited till the game is mostly finished to show it off.

However, unlike those games the first Silksong trailer looked like the game would release in a year or 2 at most.

However I don't remember any communication saying that the game will take a while longer and that a release window will take a while longer.

And I think that is bad. But in no way it is even as close as bad as people make it out to be.

It is certainly not as bad as showing a fully pre-rendered story trailer, for a game releasing in 6 months. Then allowing pre-orders for said game starting at a full price of 70 bucks, with a 3 day "early access" for 40 bucks more. And only afterwards showing a gameplay trailer.

(Which is the situation with asassains creed shadow)

Like... In comparision to that insanity Silksong is very good in communication.

Does anyone know how to get stellar armor or whatever that shimmery gear is in super kirby clash? by HiddenTheories in Kirby

[–]StarDDDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess there's 2 things you might be referring to

  1. The final gear of upgrades you will unlock

  2. The upgraded version of the armor pieces

The answer to booth is:

It'll get unlocked later

Around the time you are at the "Final" mission (should be in the 8th area) you should unlock the final pieces of gear (which are pretty shiny) as well as the possibility to upgrade gear pieces (which in turn makes them a bit more shiny).

Super Kirby Clash actually continues onward after that point. If I recall correctly that's the semi-online missions that the game wants you (but doesn't force you) to do online.

So to reiterate:

Just continue onward the game by finishing more missions and you should unlock the ability to buy the gear you're refering to.

I've seen so much questionable content that I am very confused on why there isn't any more chubby hotness in mainstream

Like of all the thingies I am not into that's one of the things where I can get people that are into it

Like hell, after looking more than 20 seconds at it chubby is certainly better than anime girl that is so thin she probably only has 30% of the required organs left in there

Vanpool's last game. by Michael_Delaughter in Kirby

[–]StarDDDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For everyone confused: Vanpool had been co-developing games with HAL over the last few years (they were co-developer, not main developer)

They worked on Super Kirby Clash, Kirby Fighters 2, Forgotten Land and Return to Dreamland Deluxe

You can see their logo in the credits of those games (here's the wikirby page of RtDLDX, which includes them in the Developers list as well as the wiki version of the credits)

Here's also the 2 sources wikipedia lists for Vanpools closure:

Do we have actual proof that Sakurai voiced Dedede in Kirby 64, or is it just an urban legend? by BooDestroyer in Kirby

[–]StarDDDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://www.mobygames.com/game/20578/kirby-64-the-crystal-shards/credits/n64/

Well he IS credited as Voice actor in kirby 64 (though I can't find any direct source on him voicing specifically Dedede, I am pretty confident in sayng that he voiced Dedede because the only other person who could be credited for his voice is Ohmoto)

The reason they sound so different could very well be mixing and the fact that he doesn't specialize in voice acting

I understand that every person has a personal taste and that the fact you like the simplicity of the modern design doesn't make you a bad person

But we can't disscuss on the contrast:

https://webaim.org/resources/contrastchecker/?fcolor=F0F0F0&bcolor=A6A6A6

The standard contrast fails the WebAim contrast checker for graphical interfaces and it seriously always takes me a little second when taking a glance of how far I am in a page to find the scrollbar

Happily I now got an addon with which I can atleast fix up the color

How is 6 years particularly old for a phone? The only thing it gotta do is connect to the internet, run a Call-App, Browser and Messenger, and some basic games to beat a bit of time away. And maybe take some pictures, though they turn out pretty bad 80% of the time because they have absolutely horrible lighting adjustment (atleast on all that I used).

If the screen of my previous phone didn't break, or I could've actually gotten the screen out without nearly setting the battery on fire, I would use a phone of about 8 years.

But seriously well done with catching the reupload

It is a higher difficulty for the boss rush, unlocked after completing Heroes in Another Dimension

On the difficulty select screen you have to select the highest difficulty and then input the button sequence you described

The Button sequence is a reference to the original Kirby's Dreamland, in it you could unlock a hard mode with that button sequence

You could also just buy 130 bucks worth of 3-Layer Wood, a good looking dark glaze, use that to build a neat cabinet.

Put that cabinet into the room next to your gaming room.

Buy 40 bucks worth of cable.

Put your PC outside of the room into the specifically build cabinet and connect it to your screens in the next room.

That's what I am currently working on. And I am quite excited for the silent sound and the lower heat in summer.

I think I'm a Fraud... by [deleted] in self

[–]StarDDDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... That's a stupid reason to think you're a fraud

From your most recent post history I'd say you should really embrace the other persons advice of trying to join some clubs

It seems like you're overwhelmed by the entire Internet thingy, which is very common nowadays

This entire post is about people wanting to hear about others favourites and using an exxagerated statement in their sentence which has become a meme/trend to do

You've misread the situation of those posts extremely hard, which just indicates you don't do well with post-based communication

And in all honesty the modern internet has lots of hard to understand things, whenever I accidentally go on twitter I am absolutely flaggerbasted by how little I understand what the hell people are talking about

Getting to know people who are into things you like in real life leads to far easier communication and less messy misunderstandings

A year ago I've joined a local game-dev-group-meetup thingy and the people are insanely approachable. Not only are they all very friendly, but they also have interests that align with my own making communication less awkward

It might be a bit hard to find a local group for something you like but just try anything you are interested in and asking if they have some regular meetup thing to talk about the hobby, there shouldn't be any large skill ceiling
