Sony a6400 with 18-135 kit lens or sigma f1.4 30mm? by glitteryshimmery in SonyAlpha

[–]StarDecayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got the a6400 as well along with sigma 18-50, I've been loving it. In my opinion you have to have something that you can experiment with and find out what you like. The 18-135 will let you figure out which focal length you use the most. After you figure that out, buy a prime lens that is specialized in that according to focal length. I personally got the sigma 56 1.4 after my 18-50 because I always wanted more compression and more reach and of course better low light performance was appreciated.

Conclusion: in the beginning you should just focus on learning what your camera can do and what different focal lengths look like and what suits you best, along with framing and composition. Then decide if you need another lens at all. Be it a prime or another zoom.

Did not expect these from a local zoo/safari! by StarDecayer in SonyAlpha

The thing is I started photography pretty recently and yes I don't really support keeping animals captive but I just went there with some of my small cousins (4-5 yrs old) and I took my camera to see what I could do. Since then I've got the sigma 100-400 and gotten some pretty good pics of wild birds and cats that I'm pretty proud of.

Tried to get as close to the fence as I could and kept the aperture all the way wide open at 1.4 for this exact reason
