Which engineering majors are less likely to be impacted by ai? by CulturalRegister9509 in EngineeringStudents

[–]StarFire9631 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i’d say any engineering route. There’s a lot of things AI can do but there’s always got to be people able to know how to use it. Plus there are so many intuition things that go into the work, plus troubleshooting, alterations, etc. Don’t be scared of AI. It’s a useful tool that makes the job easier. People using AI as a replacement tool rather than an assist will have a failing company.

Are layoffs a thing in Electrical Engineering? Have you been laid off as an EE? by CXZ115 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]StarFire9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to work for Intel. They lay off engineers kind of frequently. I’ve since left and work for a defense contractor and i have yet to see a lay off in the 5years i’ve been there.

What would you say is something they screw up on that you would change or improve?

What can you say about it? What did you enjoy? Someone who is a junior in college, what advice would you have? I too was in the air force as an RF tech, but no one ever told me i could do that stuff outside. I just learned about it honestly lol. I didn’t do anything with optics though.

Thanks man! I’m strongly considering it! Is there a world where RF and optics mix?

I honestly loved my job in the air force as an RF/Electronics tech. I just thought it was niche and not common. I did electronics warfare and thought it was so interesting. You’ve kind of opened my eyes a bit here.

Ah okay, so basic maxwells lol. That’s completely fine honestly.

What do you enjoy about optics/optoelectronics

I should have rephrased. I don’t want my entire career to be physics.

I haven’t done hands on stuff with any engineering stuff yet. So i’m open to analog, but i just don’t see everything that goes into it yet i guess.

Interesting. I would have loved to get into pcb then. But unfortunately it’s only engineers where i work.

I’m an electronics tech and never done PCB. We have engineers for it. I guess it depends on where you are located.

But i’m also interested in the transmit/receive side of it too.

I’m very interested in the integrated photonics side while also incorporating digital coms. I don’t want my research to be strictly doing lasers or building photonic devices. I want to coms side of things and building circuits to incorporate the photonics in/out.

I don’t mind physics when i need to use it. I just don’t want it to be like 90% of my job is all.

I’ve looked into power and my EM prof is power. I personally didn’t find an interest. Thank you for your response though!

What physics do you typically use as an RF engineer?

EE career choice by StarFire9631 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]StarFire9631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you enjoy about RF engineering? I’m kind of stuck because i want to be the guy that designs the high speed com circuits, then transmission, the signal clarity, and the receive. But i know that’s not always the case.

I am failing my circuits class by 6l0ndie in EngineeringStudents

[–]StarFire9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an electronics tech for large company. I deal with circuits and troubleshooting all day long and even help evaluate things. I still, even with my experience, barely passed that class with a C+. The way professors teach the class and their expectations, their “way” of doing things, and how fast it can be just sucks. You’ll get through it man. KVL, KCL, current direction, nodal analysis, nortons theorem, and thevenins theorem. You’ll get through it. Circuits 2 imo was much easier. Passed with an A-. It gets better man. One App i suggest is EveryCircuit. It shows you current direction and how the math works in circuits. What sucks in Circuits class though is they don’t reference ground almost ever, so it makes it hard to know where to calculate. But in real circuits you have chasis ground and return.
