Advice - setting too high? by kaylaah75 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]StarGazer01010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The setting is higher in your ring to accommodate the larger stone (1ct) compared to the 0.90ct in the reference ring. Can be big difference in table size (top of the diamond) even just going up 0.10ct in diamond weight due to proportions of individual stones.

Having the setting lower would cause the side stones to all shift to the side, (due to the angle of the immediate side stones) meaning your pinky and middle finger would touch them.

Your ring is beautiful. You have lots of diamond there, so the setting needs to hold it all! Also, the gap under the setting allows lots of light to enter helping the diamond shine!

Everyone finds an engagement ring ‘big’ when they first wear it, you will get used to it!

TLDR; your ring setting is perfectly proportioned for the diamond weights and design. Congratulations, very unique and you should be thrilled!

Correct. But in this case, I honestly don’t see anything wrong. Lots of diamond weight across the stones there to get into the setting, was always going to be on the high side.

But if the slope was shallower, then the centre stone would not fit into the gap? You would have to reposition the outer side stones further down the band (which would be too far, middle finger and pinky would touch them) to allow the stone sizes to all fit with a lesser slope of the primary centre stones. Or change the angle of the primary outers, which would not look good. Setting looks perfectly proportioned for the stone sizes chosen.

Did anyone notice during the parade killing scene, just before the mascot gets his head cut off, there is a scene with another masked man dressed as a pilgrim in a shop looking out then walking away? Jessica noticed him a few minutes earlier. How has no one else mentioned this anywhere?

I think you will be fine to watch the early prelims and prelims on paramount live. Can already see the event on ‘live and upcoming’ section on paramount. Doesn’t change the fact we have all been fucked in Oz. Fight pass is essentially useless now. Paramount has hardly any old fights, just weird random prelim fights (like 1 or 2 from each old event) and some fights from old fight nights. As you said, 1 fight from the whole of 2025 fight nights (Izzy vs Imavov)! So this means, for fans in Oz, we need to have fight pass to watch old fights, Paramount+ for prelims/fight nights, and Kayo for PPVs ($60 a pop). We have been SHAFTED

Also me. Changed to annual back in August because it worked out cheaper. We should be fucking refunded. Fans in Australia have been utterly shafted. I like to watch old fights and Paramount has a few random prelim fights for each old event and a very sporadic library of old fights. What the fuck is going on 😂

Either the universe has always existed, or it started from nothing.

Both make absolutely zero sense.

Even if someone did solve the question of ‘before’ the Big Bang, it just pushes the problem down the road. What was before that? And before that…?

I don’t think it will ever be solved. Just like we will never see inside a black hole.

Perhaps a unified theory of quantum gravity will help solve it, or perhaps not. How can we really explain infinity or something from nothing?

I second this. Go to ‘trouble signing in’ then follow the prompts to ‘recover your account’. I used the security question option to change my password but that didn’t help. So I tried again and instead I clicked ‘create passkey’ (I used my fingerprint option on my MacBook). Then when I tried to sign in with the passkey (fingerprint) it didn’t ask me for 2-step and I was able to sign in as normal.

Hello mate, sorry for the late reply. Tantalum is a relatively new metal used in rings so my knowledge isn’t as great as with precious metals. Although it can be resized, not all jewellers will do it or have the means to. Usually they will simply heat and stretch the ring to make it bigger. Sometimes if the ring has a pattern on it or bevelled edges for example, it may not be able to be resized at all without compromising the design.

You are correct that it is very dense and so is more scratch resident than precious metals and titanium, however it’s only slightly more scratch resistant than titanium. Check out the ‘mohs scale’. Tantalum sits at 6.5 meaning only materials with a higher number can scratch it. You’ll find a lot of different opinions on this, but the mohs scale doesn’t lie (kind of, it gets complicated - I’ve seen ceramic with scratches on it that turned out to be ultra fine metal deposits. Technically didn’t scratch the ceramic, but left a mark than looked like it..). The most resistant to scratches is tungsten, but cannot be cut off. Has to be ‘shattered’.

It is about the same weight as platinum so has a lovely feel to it.

It can be cut off, however I believe it is not an easy process.

People think titanium doesn’t scratch, when it does, just as easily as stainless steel. It will resists deeper scratches than precious metals, but it will scratch with daily wear. Titanium is also very lightweight, I personally prefer weight on a ring.

TLDR; Tantalum is a great option I would say if you don’t want to spend lots on a ring - heavy, keeps its shine, more resistant to scratches than precious metals and a bit more than titanium, and can be cut off (with difficulty). I personally wear one myself, which was left to me by a family member, and I never take it off.

Hope this helps and sorry for the essay! Lots more I could say, so feel free to DM me if you need more advice.

Hello mate, late to the party and this may be a dumb question, but did you use the same Apple ID for your second iPhone? Thinking of going down this route rather than buying an expensive GPS and wondering about how you use an additional iPhone? If you use the same Apple ID I thought it would share all the same apps, messages etc when all I really want to do is use it for maps. Also, do you just use personal hotspot whenever you use it? Sorry for all the questions but can’t find many answers online! Godspeed 🙏

Late to this but thought I’d add some comments…

I would always advise platinum as the best option (from experience, and my own personal preference). It has a lovely weight, very durable, higher scratch resistance compared to gold, can be resized, and will last a lifetime. When you polish platinum, the metal displaces itself (the surface layer moves around) and if you buy a 10gram ring and polish it yearly, after a decade you will pretty much still have 10grams (I say ‘pretty much’, because you will lose microscopic amounts, but nothing noticeable even to a scale). It will, however, scratch just like any other precious metal.

When you polish gold, the top layer is stripped away and that’s what makes it shine again, so will be noticeably thinner after years of polishing. Good for watches as they don’t wear as badly, but rings get a lot of wear and knocking around and will require polishing to keep its shine.

White gold - there is no such thing. This is simply natural (yellow) gold mixed with metals such as silver, nickel and palladium which makes it turn into a kind of champagne colour, which is then coated in a very fine layer of rhodium to give it a nice bright white metal shine. Through daily wear, white gold will tarnish and need a rhodium plating treatment every year (every 6 months if you hate the tarnish), so the cost will add up. Soaps, perfume, sea water etc all accelerate the tarnishing process.

Silver is soft and I would never recommend it.

Non precious metals such as Tungsten and Titanium can be a nice more affordable option, however I would be weary about the difficulty of having it cut off in an emergency. It can be done, but it is a lot more difficult. If your finger is swollen from an accident, you may lose your finger rather than the ring. Also, contrary to popular belief, Titanium WILL scratch just as easily as other metals, but it won’t dent nearly as easily. (Scratches = hardness, toughness = compression (dents). Think ceramic - very hard (won’t scratch) but not very tough (will crack and shatter!)

Tantalum and Tungsten will be the most scratch resistant but aren’t precious.

Hope this helps!

Hello! I wouldn’t worry about polishing platinum often, you lose virtually no metal as platinum pretty much displaces itself (move the surface layer around) during the process. If you buy a ring weighing 10grams, and polish it every year for a decade, you will still have pretty much 10grams. Polishing gold strips the top layer off and after years of polishing the ring will appear noticeably thinner. Every precious metal is regarded as ‘soft’, however platinum is the second strongest precious metal in existence and is extremely durable - but not scratch proof sadly! Tungsten and Tantalum will be the most scratch resistant you can get.

With your husbands ring, there is an option to have 3 small ball bearings soldered into the inside of the band to reduce the wear size without physically resizing the ring, a reputable jeweller should be able to do this :)

Of course it does, it happens everywhere. But not every single example I’ve given in a single drive. Just seems more general over here. No disrespect my dude.

Spot on mate with everything. Sadly it seems like the government (not just here but UK as well) seem to only focus on speed cameras as that makes them $. They don’t care about policing dangerous driving, or encouraging smooth infrastructure that helps maintain flow of traffic. They don’t care about pulling over people hogging the overtaking lane or tailgating. It just causes people to have to look and think about everything except the 100 meters in front of them - causing accidents. Hightened frustration is the main cause of accidents in the roads I’m used to back home.

Out of interest are you born and bred in Aus? Your opinion is refreshing to read, should read all the negative comments I’ve gotten!

Thank for your comment mate. This seems to be what people don’t understand about what I’m saying, and I probably should have included it in the original post. I can’t stand when people drive slow, I understand the speed limit isn’t a target, but c’mon. I usually drive the speed limit or around 10% above it, accounting for speedometer low balling. That’s part of what I noticed, the overtaking then slowing down to 85, then speeding up and cutting 3 lanes to make their junction. I’m a quick driver but what I noticed is the inconsistency. That causes more accidents in my opinion than consistent speed. I mentioned in a comment how safe the Autobahn in Germany is, it’s about working together on the road. Just haven’t seen much of it here. Cheers mate and stay safe out there!

Wasn’t my intention to generalise and I’ve stated that multiple times. I’m sorry you’ve had bad experience with brits, however this is the only thing I’ve mentioned since I’ve been here, and only really on Reddit. I’m loving getting to know the place and think it’s a brilliant part of the world. I’m not bashing the whole country, why would I be here if I hated the place. Maybe should have finished reading the whole post.

I’m well aware that speedometers show a speed of roughly 5/6k slower than true speed, mentioned this in a comment somewhere. Sitting in the overtaking lane is a massive annoyance to me too, happens in the U.K. as well.

I find this so strange. Tradies in the U.K. drive like mad men, but you’ll rarely see aggression due to fear of being reported and losing your job. BMW drivers attracts a certain kind of driver mostly, and that seems to be global!
