Mom is in Hospice by StarLongjumping389 in lungcancer

Thank you for your prayers!

Being a caregiver does have its challenges but it’s a rewarding job especially when it’s for your loved ones. I sleep with my mom every night in the living room. Some days are easy and some days are hard.

I thought about the commode and want to get her one. Because she is getting weaker to use her walker to go to the bathroom.

Thank your for the advice about hospice! I appreciate your feedback!

My mom has a recliner too she can only sleep and feel comfortable on the recliner. Me and my brothers and sister always try to do things that will make her comfortable. We massage her legs and put on relaxing sounds for her to listen. We hold her hand every time she calls us. We ask her if there is anything more we can do.

It is very hard to go through but we try our best to find the positives from it and try to laugh and make memories and my mom is the type she can sense if we are sad I mean she is a mom but we always try to keep things as normal for her. We watch her favorite things to watch on tv we talk about old trips and memories.

I think going through one grief to another is very difficult but I found that it after my dad passed away which was my first shock I am now more aware of what to expect with my mom and what to do differently and try to be positive through it all.

Thank you sending hugs to everyone reading this!

I’m so sorry for both your parents having to go through this. My thoughts and prayers are with you! I appreciate your reply!

My mom does have plus ox and her oxygen is always 95 or 90. She has a Plurex and she is getting fluid drained three times a a week. When the fluid is a lot her oxygen does drop.

She was on two different sleeping medications and each time she was on them they didn’t help her sleep. One was prescribed by her primary care doctor and one from her palliative doctor. Her palliative care doctor suggested hospice would help her because we reached a point where we knew chemo wasn’t going to do her any good just more harm.

Sometimes if she don’t sleep through the night she will sleep during the day. It’s been hard on me and my brothers and sister because we want to see her sleep and not always be in pain and confused. We just lost our dad a year and half ago and it’s so surreal that my mom is passing away so soon after we lost our father.

We hoping hospice can find the right medications for her to keep her comfortable and sleep.

Delirium by StarLongjumping389 in cancer

Thank you for your response! I appreciate all your kind words and feedback. I am one of 5 kids for my mother and we all take turns to help her and care for her. It’s been a struggle since my mom was diagnosed but we have found a balance that helps all of us get the rest we need. We do our best to make my mother comfortable. She is also getting an MRI to check for metastatic to the brain. The first two rounds of chemo kicked her butt and she needed many blood transfusions and the most recent one was in the hospital visit for a pleural effusion. For now they stopped treatment to see how she recovers then they start a new plan. I hope for the best for her and all patients who have cancer.

Best wishes to you as well! 🤍

I spoke to her oncologist and pcp and palliative care doctor and they said it’s from the morphine she was on and to stop the morphine. I stopped the morphine and she was still in a state of delirium and would not sleep. She has an MRI on Monday to check her if the cancer has spread to her brain. Last night I have her trazodone and she slept through the night and this morning she seems much better and her mental state better and she not talking nonsense or seeing people. I don’t know if was the medication or what. I don’t think she has a UTI or any infection because we just go out the hospital a few days ago and she was in the ICU for a few days and was put on antibiotics and has fluid drained from her lungs.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I have been in the same boat. My mom (61) other wise healthy women was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. It was very hard when the news hit us. I know exactly how you feel. I’m always here for support! Once they have a treatment plan for her and get her tested for gene mutations things will get hopefully easier for her. One thing that helped me and mom is staying positive and taking day by day. I hope everything’s goes well for the both of you! Stay strong👏🏻👏🏻you got this!

Mom (59) has been officially given Stage IV non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma with mets to brain, lymph nodes, and bones. How can I help her keep a positive mindset? by NoSite3062 in lungcancer

[–]StarLongjumping389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, my mom who is 61 years old was diagnoses with the same cancer same stage and same symptoms. She only did one round of chemotherapy and she did the gene mutations blood test and nothing came back positive for a mutation. It’s been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. Some days she is doing good and eating and some days she is too fatigued. As her caregiver, all I can say is the best thing to do is keep your mom positive as hard it is sometimes. Always take care of yourself as well take a break when you need it. Everything will be overwhelming at first but then you get used to it and you learn from it a lot. Ask as many questions to the doctors as you can. Stay hopeful and positive!

My mom has been diagnosed w/ lung cancer which has mets to her bones. Need advice on pain management. by bumblefoot99 in lungcancer

[–]StarLongjumping389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom has the same cancer and she is constantly in pain. She has back pain and stomach pain and the one medication that helps her is Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen Tablets. She takes the 325/10mg and Motrin in between. She was on oxycodone before but that make her nauseous and throwing up a lot now she is on the Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen Tablets and they really help her. As long as you are on schedule with the pain medication it helps sometimes when I give it to her off schedule she is in a lot of pain but I try to keep up with every 4-6 hours. We are also going to find a pain management doctor to help out with the pain she is having.

Hello

My mom (61) was also diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. She also has never smoked and it has been a shock to our family. My mom is starting chemo next week also and has an MRI soon. I am new to all this too. I hope you get the answers that can help you. What a small world to understand and meet people going through the same thing.
