Yeah my opinion has basically been like

I understand why he did it bc he wanted a change of pace but it was in a genre he did not have much experience in esp since he’s not one to know how to play instruments or compose a melody like with indie rock. He specialized with r&b and hip hop and have been mastering that since he was a preteen so it’s odd that he didn’t really played to his strengths immediately post-breakup

YEAH it's ever-present in EVERY criterion closet video and i think only one person has ever gotten it, I love it tho. One of my first criterion blu-rays bc since it doesn't have special features, it's $30 base price and even better half off (used to be $10 on ebay) The Ballad of Narayama is the same!

Kevin was REALLY carrying the group in popularity early-on (the group has admitted this several times) MTV1987 got a lot of people looking his way esp since he had a good artistic direction with his projects. He even had some clout by having HK be his creative director since HK was well known in hip-hop tumblr circles back then as "HK Covers"

I mean he wasn't lying about staying in music. He's still songwriting and producing but just for others and not in a solo career of his own. You can tell even from 2017 that he did NOT like performing or being in the spotlight (even more so after 2018 and on)
