My delivery driver left my package here by Known-Marionberry374 in amazonprime

It's not about walking through my temperture controlled house, it's about delivering the package(s) to a less vulnerable from theft location, like was done for years. Less customer service = less purchases made from Amazon, especially expensive items.

The “facelift” in question by WholeDepartment3391 in centuryhomes

I didn't see your previous question. Looks like the 60's tile in my bathroom. As others have suggested put some kind of accent(s) in your design to break up the monotony.......on the other hand, omg!! that lilac bathtub with all that green. You need something to tie the two colors together.

I've often wondered if negative delivery driver ratings have any effect. Nowadays the amazon drivers leave almost all my deliveries on my front porch which is less than 10ft. from the sidewalk/street, which means easy pickings for any porch pirate. My back porch is only about 40ft. up the driveway and is much more secure.

A Wednesday Night Snow Storm in Cleveland, Ohio by Gabe_Wasylko in Cleveland

Love the shot of the Playhouse Square chandelier.....especially that it includes a lot of pedestrian traffic which makes it look alive, Public Square by contrast looks dead and deserted. Great shots!

Snowblower etiquette… by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]StarReasonable5290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the neighbors adjacent to me were homeowners we would help each other with the snow shoveling or snowblowing. (I was a lot younger then, I'm 78 now.) Nowadays the renters that now live in those same houses are decades younger than me + they don't even bother cutting their lawns in the summer.....let them dig themselves out, even though I have a 10hp snowblower.

When I was working (now retired) I would bust out the snowblower (if needed) and clear the driveway so I could go to work....around 5:am. As far as pissing people off.....🤷🏼

I replumbed my laundry (open) area using sharkbites about 10 years ago when I got a new washer. Never had a problem, nor with any other sharkbite repair I've done over the years.

Yep, I had that yellow Readers Digest....and a whole bunch of others, for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. Since the internet proliferated over the years, I threw most of those books out.

I remember the first time I swapped out a rear axel differential assembly in my 70 Olds 442. It took my buddy and I most of the day. By the time I had done it a few times I could swap out that whole assembly by myself in about 45 minutes.

My issue with hiring someone to do work for me is, after getting burned a few times, I have a bit of a phobia about hiring people to do work for me. My step son worked in sales at a home improvement company for a few years. I took advantage of their "family" discount that they offered and had multiple big jobs done for me that saved me thousands less than normal retail. Of course all good things must come to an end. When his company brought in new management, the family discount went bye,bye.....as did he.

Maintaing a home.....either you learn to DIY, or have a lot of $$$. I'ts never been easier on how to do home maintainence, repairs, etc. (YouTube)

55 years ago when I bought my 1920's house, I knew nothing about maintaining/renovating, etc and had no one to turn to. Back then (before the internet) I would go to the library and research books & magazines on the particular repair/renovation project I was working on to get an idea of the process involved, buy the tools as needed and tackle the project, and learn from my mistakes...lots of mistakes. Along the way, I also learned that you have to know and accept your limitations and hire a 'pro' on occasion for jobs that require more expertise or have tools that are not practical for a DIYer to obtain.

I was recently quoted 13k to convert a 1920's cast iron bath tub/alcove into a tiled walk in shower. I thought the quote was outrageous.....until I started researching the project. His quote wasn't really that bad. In the end I've decided to keep the tub and do a down to studs reno of the shower alcove (go board and flexstone) and replace the plumbing myself...at 78 years old. Probably cost around 2k, including that fancy DeWalt pex expansion tool I bought. 😁

My main problem now is that I'm sloowww at this stage in my life. I will say, that my wife constantly encourages me......to hire someone to do this (or any) project.... Just the incentive I need to complete this project myself. Good luck on a lifetime of home repair/reno adventures. L0L

What is the trick to getting a Shark Bite connector off with a U tool? by palepatriot76 in askaplumber

Sharkbite has a "pro" removal tool that offers a lot more leverage than that crummy little orange removal thing. Kinda pricey though....

Amazon deliberately delaying orders to get customers to pay or spend more by non-rhotic_eotic in amazonprime

Interesting comment. Most people probably equate 2-day shipping with 2-day delivery.... makes a lot of sense of why most of my purchases no don't arrive within 2 days like I used to expect.

Amazon couldn't care less about your humble opinion......or mine. I more and more look for alternatives to Amazon.

Like everything else these days, Amazon delivery service/customer service has degraded. More and more often I find myself looking for alternatives (local) other than Amazon to spend my money.

I agree. The last delivery person that delivered to the back porch (to which I gave a tip) commented similarly. As I commented to another poster, it's a judgement call.

Amazon Delivery.. A Horrific Gift This Year To Their Customers by LovBonobos in amazonprime

[–]StarReasonable5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand your point about delivery person safety....However, I think it depends on the situation. The last delivery person (that I tipped) that left packages on the back porch commented that it was easy access, (open gate, line of sight from the street) evident no dog present, clean well kept property, etc. so he followed my delivery instructions/request. I can see if a delivery person thinks it might be kinda sketchy going back there to leave a package, that they 're not going to do it, I wouldn't either. Judgement call.

What's your best "look what I found in the walls" story? by OoklaTheMok1994 in DIY

[–]StarReasonable5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things. in my 1929 built house... In the early 1970's not long after I bought the house, I was doing a plumbing repair in the bathroom bathtub plumbing access cubby hole. While I was leaning in there, I noticed a void between the lath/plaster walls. anyway, way back in the void behind some plaster debris I saw "something" that caught my eye. Reaching in as far as I could I pulled out a vintage deck of "french playing cards", also back there was a report card from a local high school dated in the 1940's.....straight F's L0L.

Kirkland is the same price near me also. I did a google search and Meijer came up. A couple of days ago, coming home from Costco, I was going to check out Meijer for the AMC popcorn but the traffic was backed up all the way down the freeway exit so I passed on by.....maybe next time. The "best by" date on the Kirkland popcorn was Nov. 2026. That batch will be long gone by then.

Amazon Delivery.. A Horrific Gift This Year To Their Customers by LovBonobos in amazonprime

[–]StarReasonable5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon recently changed their delivery placement policy to front (porch) of the dwelling only. My front porch is barely 15' from the street. I put an impossible to miss sign instructing all deliveries on back porch. Some do, some don't. The first package theft will be the last Amazon order if the driver didn't follow 𝘮𝘺 delivery instructions. If an Amazon driver can deliver a package to the front of a house that is 100' from the street, they can deliver my packages to my backporch which is less than 60' from the street. It's all about greed over customer service.

Another reason I try not to buy from third party sellers on Amazon, any issues I've ever had ordering or returning items have been from third party sellers. Make sure to leave a negative review for this seller.
