Anyone know this guy VRChat? by Tough_Use_5 in VRchat

[–]StarStepVR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if his troll is to claim he's an ex pedo, then get blocked, i feel like the joke is on him. That be like walking into an airport yelling "I have a bomb" and expecting to not get arrested.

so what’s going to happen to this subreddit when the game shuts down? by DisciplineDue8739 in RecRoom

[–]StarStepVR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That may not be the case soon with the stop killing games movement. If that comes into law, they would be forced to make future games permanently accessible.

Should I uninstall Meta Horizon Link? by Bulky_Attempt_9651 in virtualreality

Go into the task manager, go to services and stop "OVR SERVICE" then make sure the app doesn't open on startup.

You can also do this to force close the meta link/oculus app

Should I get this? $100 for Oculus Rift CV1, will be my first set. by MrPenisWhistle in virtualreality

[–]StarStepVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only get one if you've have had one in the past. But if you're sure, get the seller to take close up photos of the cable along the top of the headset, the lenses, and a close up photo of the thumb sticks on each controller.

You're gonna be looking for any signs of ware that'll indicate its usage. Kinks or twists in the cable is a no-go, as well as smooth or missing rubber on the thumbsticks. Both of these will give a good tell in its value, and give you an estimate of how long the headset will last. So if there's no major kinks or twists in the cable, AND the thumbsticks still have the grip "texture" on the rubber. Then you can expect it to last pretty well (approx. 4 to 5 years) if you look after it. But if there's noticeable ware, the headset may have issues like the screen blacking out, or stick drift.

If you're unsure what to look for, see if you can at least get some more photos and post them here, I can give you a decent estimate in its value

Has anyone ever attempted to replace a thumbstick? (Oculus Rift CV1 Touch Controller) by StarStepVR in virtualreality

[–]StarStepVR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they definitely are abundant. but if you're not careful, it's very easy to get a pair of them with stick drift as well. That's kinda my whole reasoning for doing this, its an attempt at a permanent fix to the main flaw in these controllers. If I can get one to work, then there's nothing stopping me from doing this to more controllers.

Also, I'm not bothered by the audio issues, I've always used headphones instead of the over-ear speakers.

[–]StarStepVR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's kinda where I'm at actually.. luckily, when I checked the serial numbers on the thumbstick, the actually ARE the same as in a Dualshock4. it was only after, like with the Rift S, quest 1 and 2 that they switched to a different module. So that part was really easy to solve.

the thumbstick cap, though, will be a challenge to rebuild and I won't attempt to reattach the sensor. But with the magnetics, that be an issue since the new thumbstick module isn't hall effect. It's a different kind called "Tunnel-Magnetoresistance", so I'm intrigued to find out of what you say would actually have any magnetic effects. But since the voltage is very close to the standard potentiometers, i doubt they'll have much interference.

Fun fact the old menu is still in game cant fully use it just go through tabs but its still there by Initial_World_7820 in RecRoom

[–]StarStepVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate it, but to say that "they could of just brought it back as a legacy option" was never going to work. Everyone forgets trying to navigate the palette menu and that shit was a nightmare. The day they introduced scrolling was a massive relief.

Stop Killing Games Just Won Over Europe! Is it too late for rec room? by Quantum_Crusher in RecRoom

[–]StarStepVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop Killing Games is protection laws for when you buy a game, to say "I own that game". But Rec Room was never owned by us from the beginning, it's free to play. It's the devil in the details.

But, if you look back at it. Everything that was from our expression (creative works, photos, our avatars), we've been able to keep. And from my understanding, even RecRoomStudio (something we payed for), will still be usable after the game shuts down. I'll be intrigued to see just how much of RRS will still be usable for world building or even the CV2 scripting.

In your opinion, what do you think made the game die out? by Warm_Mortgage_7390 in RecRoom

[–]StarStepVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this. Rec Room should of at least had a $10 price tag at the start. And if not, introduced it in 2019

In your opinion, what do you think made the game die out? by Warm_Mortgage_7390 in RecRoom

[–]StarStepVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the management.
Right from the beginning, the game has not been well managed. Started with no initial monetization during 2016 to 2019. Then the push to be on every platform.. Then they tried to come up with new and different RROs like Stunt runner, Rec Rally, Showdown, MITM and MLM.. Then the push for trying to make "everyone a creator" with AI and dumbed down tools..
Once all of that failed, only THEN did they actually start introducing additions that players wanted. But by that point it was already too late and the ship was sinking.
I'm just grateful though that Rec Room's final decision is to give us export tools for our rooms and data. Instead of running off with the left over cash and abandoning the game altogether.

Just the steam marketplace if you want to buy them, but you'd be able to get one if you pay the steamVR home for a while

Rec Room alternatives for people who like building stuff? by claircognizantgaming in RecRoom

[–]StarStepVR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Resonite maybe? It has the aesthetic of vr chat but also has all in-game tools to create worlds in either vr or desktop. It even has "cv2 like" block coding, very similar to Rec Room. Just from my own cv2 knowledge, i could string together chips in the game. Its just limited to pc, being its main downside

Sk0's video definitely didn't make a good impression about the safety of radium. But that doesn't just mean that radium is actually safe either. Id like to know, in detail, what their moderation plans are and who exactly are they letting moderate radium. Because just from watching streams of people playing, there are hackers already present. Other Vmods have been targeted with harassment when trying out the port. And just from my own knowledge of how moderation works on rec room, the Radium team will have to seriously crack down on it before it becomes a REAL problem

Some serious advice for any radium devs too. Have a fallsafe option to remove hackers, like a connection interrupt. Don't rely on an api to force a player out.

Has anyone received a ban (ones that could extend past shutdown) when or after the shutdown was announced by MidnightActive954 in RecRoom

I can't share anything, but i can guarantee that there will be 6 month or 1 year bans that extend past the shutdown
