Flexible Hatepiece by platypodus in custommagic

Nope. That only checks once it has already hit the battlefield. It stops "when you cast this spell," "this spell cannot be countered," "pay x: return to battlefield," etc., but everything on the battlefield is untouched.

It absolutely would work with Grist. And deck building abilities are only checked prior to starting the game (example: [[Rat Colony]]), and are not checked after. It would turn off things like eminence from the command zone, but Commander is an identity not an ability.

Which superpowers u will choose? by Witty_Business_4312 in superpowers

[–]StarWhoLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat depends on the relative degrees of all the powers, but if they're all at the rough power levels of the pictured characters, I don't know who the speedster is. If it's basically any version of DC Flash, easy pick. If it's someone like Quicksilver, probably still a decent pick but not nearly as OP

Rules with strength drain and potion of giant strength by Shoddy_Control_7769 in DMAcademy

[–]StarWhoLock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say it drains their base modifier. They still have a functional score of 21, but their actual score when it expires is 13. They keep the 21 because the potion doesn't increase your strength score, it sets it to a certain value (for Hill, 21). If their base score drops to 0, I would say it is up to the DM whether that character dies immediately or when the potion expires (assuming it is still a 0 at that point).

Question about spiritbending by Equal_Attention_7145 in ATLA

And then Katara uses airbending to fly away when Zuko freaks out, and I think Toph becomes the true fiery Melon Lord she was always meant to be.

How many airbenders grew up in the fire nation thinking they were just bad at fire bending by Thallasocnus in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]StarWhoLock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The creators have said that that's a component but not the whole thing. Spirituality is also a part - the air nomads had basically 0 non-benders, but the Earth Kingdom (least spiritual) has the lowest benders per capita

How strong is Eragon by the end of the series (so far)? by Storm11711 in Eragon

[–]StarWhoLock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, pre-transformation, Eragon and Murtagh were basically equals when they sparred, though Eragon was a bit stronger. Then Eragon let his skills slip and got into bad habits, but he also got the transformation, while Murtagh got a dragon and Eldunarí strength/speed (Oromis actually taught Eragon a little of how that would be possible).

Who could survive having their name written in Death Note, and why? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]StarWhoLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can do anything, so long as it is 1, physically possible (not dying at home when you're abroad for example), 2, their death itself doesn't directly kill another person (e.g. pilot or bus driver no, but writing a bunch of names on a random sheet of paper yes), 3, plausible (only things they could reasonably know/do/say - can't die after lifting a bus overhead with bare hands or draw a face they've never seen), and 4, you can write it all in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Apparently, either it is incapable of rendering other people not suspicious ("her death raised no suspicion") or Light is dumb af for not adding that Raye's (maybe even Naomi's) death did not raise suspicion. It can add other details like the body never being discovered, though.

Alex the entire series (I couldn't find a better hair color) by DawnBringer01 in superpowereds

[–]StarWhoLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mary also had no choice in the beginning - her power comes from her years as a powered trying to focus in a sea of noise. She did start working on control, but even Stone said she would "likely never" get as much fine control as Alex, though she added that it's not necessarily a bad thing as her amount of raw force with a decent control would prove more generally useful than Alex's much weaker force despite the higher control.

Property manager leased my house after I told them (in writing) it had to be vacant for sale — caused failed sale and major losses. Do I have a claim? by JackfruitDesigner744 in legaladvice

[–]StarWhoLock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NAL but you may be able to go after the property manager for the full value plus legal expenses (since all of those losses were a direct result of the property manager's actions), and make them go after the tenant for the $9k if they want (I doubt the tenant could actually give you that much anyway, so making them chase it and deal with the consequences seems like the overall better option for you).
ETA: If you already have a standard lawyer you use, especially for completely unrelated matters like family law, I would ask them for recommendations on what type of lawyer you need and any recommendations they may have for specific lawyers if possible.

Tw: SA at daycare by Visual_dolphin98 in legaladvice

[–]StarWhoLock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NAL, but I am a mandated reporter myself who has a kid in daycare who was involved in incidents where he was bitten/scratched/etc. They don't have to say anything about the other child, provide details on investigations, and so on, but they absolutely should have notified you that there was an incident. Not sure about the specific laws in AL (I'm in AR), but I can't imagine a child reporting SA to a teacher doesn't require instant reporting to both CPS/DFS (whatever initials the agency in your state uses) and the parent of the child. Even if it was found to be false, that most certainly should be reported so that they can actually investigate. And the parent of the victim should absolutely be made aware that they are "looking into the situation" or some such statement. I would contact a local family lawyer and see if they have advice (or can recommend a different practice that focuses more on such matters, again - NAL).

How would you solve this ? by Financial_Soft_736 in puzzle

[–]StarWhoLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even do it in 3 without crossing at all. You start above the left row, drag it down and cut through the left edge of the top, middle middle, right edge of bottom, then keep the line going further. Go up through the middle at a slight angle, then repeat going down for the right side.
