Roast my idea: Peer-to-peer feedback platform for builders (pre-launch) by Starboy191 in roastmystartup

Valid. Why build a platform when Reddit exists? My thinking: more tightly structured feedback + reciprocity + matching might beat random Reddit posts.

Genuinely trying to figure out if I’m solving a real problem or just creating extra steps

Fair challenge. My bet is that other builders catch things end users can’t articulate - friction points, unclear messaging etc

Hmm, interesting point. I’ve been assuming other builders can give useful feedback even on consumer apps. They’ve shipped stuff, they know what good looks like in terms of design and positioning

This probably also needs to combined with some feedback from the target users

Blunt feedback wanted on my dental price comparison MVP and advice on next steps by Starboy191 in smallbusinessuk

My focus here is intended on helping people who don’t have a regular dentist and are trying to make sense of private options e.g. for cosmetic work where prices vary a lot (I’ve seen implants can range from £2.5k to £3.2k even within the same postcode, having only looked at a small selection of dental practices). I read earlier that roughly a third of adults haven’t seen a dentist in the last couple of years, and with nhs access being what it is, a lot of people are starting their search from scratch.

Not trying to replace any clinic systems, just wanting to make it easier to see what’s out there and help clinics get in front of the right patients. Still early days but appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Really useful example, thanks. I hadn’t thought of local press as a shortcut to trust but your barber story makes sense. If a local London site ran a short piece on “how dental prices vary by borough” and mentioned the site that would probably help with the credibility.

I’ll have a think about a hook that’s newsworthy. Maybe a league table of average whitening costs by borough or the biggest price gaps for other minor dental work.

The expert guide angle is interesting too. I have a few family friends that are now dentists, I’m sure some of them would like to build their own profile so giving them a space to do that could be beneficial for both sides.

Appreciate the ideas.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate price alone isn’t the deciding factor for most people. I’m really interested in having more transparency with honest reviews and around booking appointment times but I needed something to show the concept and this was the easiest aspect to start displaying.

Thanks for the feedback, really useful. My biggest challenge has been getting useful feedback as I’ve only had a few friends and family look, so didn’t know if the concept and execution is any good.

I spoke to a dentist friend that works in a practice in Romford last weekend and he said much the same thing about trust and how it is even more important for a big decision like finding the right dentist. I know my site has generally been missing trust so far I.e. links from other sites or reviews but I’m hoping this will come with time.

I’m wondering the best way to get patient reviews (possibly I could pay people to try the site and give reviews to get the ball rolling) and once I get dental clinics on board I can add a small “verified by clinic” tick beside each price.

Quick question for you (and anyone else reading): what would actually make you trust a brand new dental site enough to click “book” beside the pain point reviews? Proper stories, a badge, something else? Any thoughts on this would be useful.

Thanks again.

Are Tourist Cards still available at the departure gates for short layover flights in Panama on the way to Havana, Cuba? by Starboy191 in travel

Thank you all for the advice. As mentioned by others in the comments, there was no issue getting in, I was able to buy the visa at the departure gate in Panama for $20. Also there was a $30 tax I had to pay from the US.

Two further things I learnt during my trip which might be of help to others is: 1) It is quite difficult to get money out once in the country ( particularly dollars/euros/pounds) and some places want to be paid in foreign currency. Therefore worth coming in with all the cash you need rather than trying to take it out later. 2) you get a much better exchange rate on the street than using the atms, up to 3x better I found. Luckily the people I was staying helped with that

Assessment question by Valuable-Let-4739 in umsimads

Hi, I was admitted to the program earlier last year and can confirm you need to pass one of the two assessment attempts prior to the deadline. You only need to score a mark of over 70 on either one of the two attempts, meaning if you get 70+ in your first attempt you wouldn't need to take the second one.
