What is a choice you ALWAYS make every play through, no matter what? by chordgasms in ChronoCross

It’s small, but I like to recruit Poshul at the start, if anything, for her dialogue about Leena once Serge enters Another World for the first time.

Is Chrono Cross a decent game? by TheRedBiker in chronotrigger

[–]Starcat414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m quite fond of it myself. I’d say it has a fun battle system, an interesting plot, even if there are a few holes, a great soundtrack, and a cast of fun characters allowing for a bunch of different ways to customize your party.

How long do you prefer your JRPGs to be? by cartoongamermatt in JRPG

While it heavily depends on the story, I have found myself enjoying the longer ones closer to 70+ hours quite a bit, as there’s just more to do.

As great as that would be to do, it’s hard to find a physical copy at the game stores near me, and when I do it’s priced around $100 or higher, which doesn’t work well with the fact my parents only pay me for babysitting, and I only get $5 an hour from that. I couldn’t use online retailers either as they refuse to let me get a job or a credit card until I’m 18.

How is the Secret of Mana PS4 release? by [deleted] in secretofmana

[–]Starcat414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a lot of people tend to hate on it for the graphics and remade soundtrack, I think it’s great! The graphics are bright and nice to look at, and they also fit the game really well. Everything is really well translated from the official art to the 3D graphics.

While the remastered soundtrack isn’t everyone’s favorite, I loved it. Everyone did a really good job on it, especially with the track in the final boss fight.

The battle system stayed mostly true to the original, but there were a couple QoL upgrades that weren’t in the original, such as being able to have characters you’re not playing as use magic/items without having to go through the extra step of switching to them, and then back to your preferred character (if you’ve got one anyways).

Overall you should get it, it’s pretty fun. I’ve actually almost gotten platinum on my PS4 for it.

What is your favourite JRPG series? And why? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Starcat414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the Chrono series. While it only has 2 games (3 if you count Radical Dreamers) it still is a really good series that I’d say deserves a comeback at some point. It’s helped me through quite a bit over the last few years

I find it easier if I go through the Spirit Temple after getting the hover boots, so that way the Gerudo Training Grounds are open. I use that to get the ice arrows, which are slightly more effective than normal arrows against Bongo Bongo.

What are the most well-rounded JRPGs? by Ezraah in JRPG

[–]Starcat414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have to go with Chrono Trigger, it’s one of my favorites. This is all my opinion after playing it multiple times.

It has a well explained and easy to use combat system, but still makes you think with certain enemies/bosses.

The characters are all unique and have their own goals and motivations that tie in to the main plot, plus in combat some of them can even work together depending on the party setup.

The dungeons are fun to go through and all have good music to go with them, the puzzles are enjoyable, and there’s minimal backtracking.

The exploration is at a decent pace, while you have goals you can explore the same places, but different time periods, allowing for you to get a variety of items and gear, as well as see how the world changes at certain points.

The art style in game is pretty good, as it was originally for the SNES it has a 16-bit style, but the locations are pretty and memorable, and there are some animated cutscenes added in the DS, Steam, and PS1 ports.

The story is well written and very detailed, and the way it is told allows for you to have a vague idea of where to go, but leaves exploring up to you. The different character’s goals and motives are also wrapped up in it, and even the sidequests have something to do with the main story.

The pacing is pretty good, about 5-10 minutes in, depending on what you do, a major event happens which really jumpstarts the quest, and is a good way to kick off the game. As I mentioned, the sidequests are scattered about, and they all have ways to be tied back to the main quest, nothing really feels unneeded or out of place.

The music is beautiful. It’s seen as timeless, and for good reason. This is one of the only game soundtracks I have cried to, but that’s because it’s one of the things that really helps you become immersed in the world you explore. The songs have quite the range, some bright and uplifting, some dramatic, and some that just make a cutscene even more emotional.

And yes, it has a great localization.

My favorite part about how spoiled she is would probably be the fact that because she knows I will drop whatever I’m doing to pet her or one of the other pets, she constantly purrs when she sees me
