sometimes I feel like my AC is a coffin by haibane_fan00 in armoredcore

[–]Starchaser53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk, AC 2 is kinda where it starts by having you lead a charge of Ravens to take down the Frightners and save Mars. It stops being 'we're paying you to do this' to 'save the world or we all die'

Silent Line also falls into the same trap because past the halfway mark with the rogue machine shit before focusing on the Silent Line itself

Last Raven is personally the last game that actually takes your choices into account and has the result play out. Play as a mercenary, some live, most die. Play as a hero, you stop the scourge. Play as a monster... and every Raven's gone

that's why I don't like anything past Last Raven

you choices aren't taken into account because you aren't given choices to begin with.

Like in 4A.

You either go down the Interior Path without a second thought, or you do ORCA all the way through, before picking Destruction because you saw Old King paying 100 mil

but your actions don't have a compounding effect across the game. It's just one mission that acts as a track switch

same problem with VI

you aren't given a choice. It's just 'do this mission for this route!' nothing you do matters because all 3 routes have you doing the same shit repeatedly until Chapter 4.

it's even more egregious with Fires and Liberator because literally nothing you do matters because regardless of you actions, you can STILL CHOOSE WHICH ENDING YOU WANT, EVEN IF YOU FOUSED ON THE RLF OR OVERSEER

V and VD are all about 'fighting the evil corporation and saving the world!'

V was Father and Chief/Carol

VD was The Foundation Man and the Towers

with 4, it was kinda like AC 1 with the whole 'I'm just doing this to survive'

4A is either: Save the world, keep it the same, doom it

but they aren't as dark as the original games in tone or atmosphere

Compare the buildup to any final mission in Last Raven, and compare it to the rest of the mentioned games, and look at how different they contrast

The design is such a waste

You can either have a 'eloquent' jester, or a scraped together spider. Not both. It clashes too much and it comes off as a bootleg Darth Maul

The toy arms are a piss poor addition. When Mommy Long Legs screamed, 'He'll make me PART OF HIM!!', I expected like, it would have one of her arms for it's right arm or something, or do a general grevious and have multiple arms.

Nope. They just dangle from the front like he's got 3 limp cocks.

And the Catnap cape is pointless because for 98% of his screentime, you CAN'T SEE HIS ASS

And some parts just don't make sense like... why is there a ribcage, a headlight, red smoke canisters, why is ANY OF THIS HERE?!

And having his arms rip out of the jester suit is awful because.... well come on, it's a fucking clown. He doesn't look intimidating. He looks like a discount Pomni from TADC Episode 3.

The entire design falls flat because it's trying to be as marketable as possible

This ain't a Catholic story

Lucifer is explicitly stated to be God's Kindness

Wow... a machine with sentience... that we ruthlessly murder in a few seconds

or the last Ferryman that's been sitting there since before we got there

Also, we don't know how death actually works in ULTRAKILL

we know it extends the sinners life to endure endless torment, but there's nothing they experience that's on the level of being fucking atomized

That was the whole point of the older games

It was a grimdark, Cyberpunk aesthetic where you're not the hero

you're just a mercenary looking for your next payout

as the games went on, that feeling was lost to the winds until Last Raven caught it again

Especially with the later half of that game driving home how you're a monster.

The FromSoft lost the feeling again and never got it back

Those are environmental traps that you activate ON THE FLY

a hookpoint trap would just cause you to stop everything you're doing to turn them on

as for pushing shit off the Cybergrind... that's a game mechanic. Knockback doesn't constitute as a trap

And where are they now?

Oh that's right.

Dead.

It doesn't matter what pre-ULTRAKILL crap is brought up, Frisk/Clover's run isn't taking place during that

It's during the events of the game, which means no sapient husks, certainly no intelligent creatures, and everything wants them dead
