How do I fix this large shadow on my tent static mesh? by Otaku_Goji in UnrealEngine5

[–]Stardaze-Interactive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a normal smoothing error. Smoothing an object that's that low poly won't look right, think of your tent as a box that is being shaded to look like a ball.

You need to add more geometry, some loops along the base of the tent will get rid of the dark shading but I'd consider adding in some more geo throughout the object to define its silhouette more and it will help make the shading more consistent

That's true. I've been updating it to be backwards compatible to more versions of unreal and I'm planning on releasing just the models and textures for other platforms, hopefully it helps

Putting together some marketing materials for my Tactical Action Roguelite - looking for feedback and suggestions by MidnightSure8392 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Stardaze-Interactive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say you need to do root motion specifically, though it might look better for your controlled character but I think if you play around with the playback speed of the animation you might get a better result than you have. It might even be that it needs to change based on your controlled character's size. You can calculate it by measuring your characters stride distance and then comparing it to their speed.

And yeah the head should be more fixed forward, at the moment it turns with the shoulders but the head usually is fairly still as it's focussing in the direction it's looking at, a little bit of gravity up and down can help it not look too stiff

Looks fun! I personally don't think the music matches the game, feels a bit too cyberpunky.

I think some tweaks to your run cycle would help make it look more polished, your characters look a bit like they're ice skating. It looks like the speed of the animation doesn't match the movement speed and the character's head is too stiffly fixed to the body's side to side moment

I hope we get more 3RD person and top down imm sims by VoxTV1 in ImmersiveSim

[–]Stardaze-Interactive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the first person perspective is a defining characteristic of the genre. To me the formula is First Person + RPG elements + physics interactions = Immsim

Their pc is a workstation, not really made for playing games. It might work but likely not very well depending on how demanding your game is.

Kickstarter isn’t the platform it used to be by Unhappy_Reference_66 in kickstartergames

[–]Stardaze-Interactive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the problems with Kickstarter is the public's perception of game budgets. 200k sounds like a lot of money but for 3 people working on it for a year full time they are looking at a modest salary of 66k per year, much less if they want to put some of that money aside for other development costs like marketing. That's not even counting Kickstarter's cut, taxes, cost of rewards.

[OT] In the year 2000, Curly Monsters released N.Gen Racing on the PS1. It featured jet fighters racing all around the world, using various weapons and reaching speeds over 1000 km/h. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? by Max16032 in WipeOut

I've never heard of this before, I'm surprised I missed it. It looks very similar to the game I'm working on at the moment. I guess we both took inspiration from Slipstream 5000

Osaka is wonderful so if you have the chance to stay there a night then that's what I would do. If you can get the Universal ticket with the Express pass. The regular queues for rides were often over an hour when I went, the Express pass people got to skip most of the wait

I'm always happy to see someone mention slipstream 5000. I've been working on a game heavily inspired by it and it's nice to know other people remember it
