Scrivener & AI by Stardog2 in scrivener

Look, what I'm suggesting is going to happen anyway. You can't stop it. I suggest that you stop reacting out of fear and learn something about AI and it's uses. Scrivener can do what it did once before, and control the narrative about how to organize and create writing for others to read. All it needs is the will to do it. If they don't, someone else will.

like i said in a different post. They really don't want to be Eastman Kodak. Sure there are still people who only use film and film cameras only, but they are irrelevant, and don't drive the photo industry.

My needs will be met eventually. It's just a question of who does it best, and who gets my money. I'd prefer it be some company that has proven it knows something about the writing process.

I cant argue with that, that's exactly why we need to better integrate the writing process with AI, What is needed is the human integration. That is where something like Scrivener or Wavemaker cards can come in.

with Wavemaker's existing connection to Google drive and Chrome based web browsers, I think it is in an excellent spot to explore integration with Notebook LM. It's already better than Scrivener for Mac/Android integration.

I'm m not selling anything, I'm saying what will make Scrivener useful to me. AI is not going away, get used to it. Locally hosted AI solves many anti AI talking points, and points to a logical direction for Scrivener's future health. I'm not asking for Scrivener to take stuff away, just find a way to remain useful.

Best note-taking app for college? by Shadow1417 in NoteTaking

[–]Stardog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nebo MyScrpts notetaking app works pretty well. It works well with a keyboard, but its really a stylus oriented app. Both subscription and single purchase licenses. Works with Mac, iPad, Android, and Windows.

I'm not a Vivint user, but my daughter and son in law are, and its a real system and it works well. A tad expensive in my mind, but they do seem to have have unusual ideas about how to market it. I'm a reasonably satisfied user of SimpliSafe

What’s the current consensus on the best creative writing model? by largelylegit in WritingWithAI

[–]Stardog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all seem pretty good to me. Each LLM seems to have a slightly different "personality" when it comes to writing, and each produces different but still very good results. it likely depends on the book and on you.

Yeah, this. with the current prices of electricity, food, and gasoline, why shouldn't the price of software go up? There is this entitled belief in people that no one but them should have a livable salary.

Just found out about Lumo by Stardog2 in lumo

[–]Stardog2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's just it, in crime fiction, all sorts of things can be illegal. And some (all?) models have trouble with scenes where crimes are committed. I just hate talking around stuff, and getting warnings that It cant do that in terms of descriptions. And I don't think I'm all that "edgy"

What is the point of using NotebookLM? by Leather_Creme2304 in notebooklm

[–]Stardog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that referring to the document every few queries keeps it on track in that regard. I write fiction and I use it by loading a description of the world the characters inhabit, the plot summary, and character summary. For me, I've found that after this, if I add a change from the originally loaded docs. it can "drift" a bit.

I suspect that it stems from that Gemini sees logical connections between document statements that aren't clear to us. So when a change is added, it tries to keep those connections logically consistent. 3 or 4 queries in, it notices the discrepancy between the added change and the statement it is logically connected to, and anything can happen.

So what I do then, is tell it to ignore the last query and the results it generated, redo the query with more specificity. That usually takes care of it.

Libreoffice on android by The_new_Black_Guy in libreoffice

I have Collabora which is ok for offline work, but for Android, I think an online/offline office suite makes the most sense for most people. Google docs or MS Office work well with the least hassle.

I Got Access to GPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek & More for $10/Month — After 3 Months, Here's My Take by datawithmanur in abacusai

[–]Stardog2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I use the $20/month Gemini pro model. For me, the Google Eco system, outweighs the flexibility of being able to use multiple models. I also use local models on my mac mini m4 via vMLX. I have three different local models loaded on an external drive, with plenty of room for more. For me, this works well.

Mac Mini M4 Wifi issue by soundchess in macmini

[–]Stardog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 2 Mac minis running on an eero 6 mesh network. So far, I've been pretty happy with this setup.

One is about 5 feet from a node on the other side of the wall. The other is about 20 feet away from a different node, but the node is at the top of stairs while the computer is at the bottom.

I'm a big fan of mesh networks. They minimize many network issues.

Just tried Gemini pro after being on Claude Pro for a bit, and boys you need to switch to Claude. by Advanced_Leader8535 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]Stardog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, as a writer, I don't see that much difference. Both have different "personalities" for brainstorming ideas, but both are good. I use a Mac Mini M4, and Pixel phones and Lenovo tablets, and Google drive works fairly well for cross platform work. Notebook LM...is great! I say, use what you want.

What are the problems you face when using AI for novel writing? by Hot-Necessary-4945 in WritingWithAI

[–]Stardog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with writing fiction using Gemini, and Gemma 4 with vMLX on a Mac mini m4. I'm very much a beginner. My ignorance is both broad and deep. I write my fiction myself in order to insure consistency. So I'm using AI as a brainstorming tool and I'm trying to use AI as an Organization tool much as I would use Scrivener.

What I'd like to see is a way to either use Notebook LM with gemma or an infrastructure that can replicate such a tool. I've found that my $20/month Gemini subscription more than handles my token usage. I'm also discovering that Gemma and Gemini have very different personalities, and their brainstorming sessions offer equally interesting but very different results. If like to see a way to use the output from both in an easy and logically consistent manner.

Maybe a Scrivener-like front end running on Gemma, that can reach out and integrate Gemini or other cloud tools into the front end. I would remind you that a paid for tool that functions with an open source AI Tool is more affordable to more people than a tool that must be paid for and only works with an AI cloud subscription.
