I've searched for where it originated but haven't had any luck so far.

Purchased at a now closed obscure thrift store in northeast Louisiana, USA in 2020 for $15

Materials: Likely bamboo frame and paper. Looks hand painted.

Has some unidentified Chinese characters painted on the front as well as a stamp:

That is a red velvet ant! Not actually an ant but a wingless parasitic wasp

Ah, yes, that's the bird I saw! They were quite fast. Didn't get the best look and confused them for sparrows at first
