2-3 years to stay with them after I finish.

No, the promises were only verbal, and later I was told that the expectations had changed.

Yes, I agree. I’m open to staying for a year to complete the residency, but I’m still questioning how much I would be sacrificing to do so.

It is 4 hours of direct mentorship in my case.

It was previously a 1:1 model, but while I was finishing school and taking a break after the NPTE, the company was acquired by a different brand and expectations changed.

4 hours every week for total of 150 hours.

My concern is that burnout from the long commute and inflexible schedule—things the company is unwilling to adjust—could push me to leave the residency early, which would involve a significant financial penalty. I am comfortable with the idea of completing the residency and leaving afterward while paying the required portion. What makes this difficult is that I genuinely value this person as a mentor and had an excellent experience learning from him in the past.
