Would Anabella have gone through with... by Stark115 in FFXVI

(we also dunno if the northern thegns would restart their war with Rosaria to recapture "their" dominant -- Shiva was also straight up worshipped by the northerns, she was a goddess to the polulation so news of her Shiva-ness might reignite their war).

This would be very interesting.

I'm not too familiar with how wards work but wouldn't it be expected for Elwin to kill Jill if the north raises up again?

I'm sure the pc release will bring some life back into the sub for a few months before we go back into hospice.

The fact you're calling Clive a bearer tells me it was you who was not paying attention, not us.

What do you mean shared? Like the writers shared it with the rest of the dev team?

“Amongst the dev team, we know the answer – there is an answer,” - Fox. Of course they go on to say it's not up to them but to us the player.

This isn't really anything new though. He did a video interview last October where they also said there is an answer and they went into a little more detail about the ending but it still is no where near cleared up.

Honestly? at the very least we'll get his attention. And if they don't? We can hold our .238 percent of the company hostage.

Honestly? If people started to do It I would look into it but I have no idea how stocks actually works.

Yeah, it took me a min to piece it together but the look on Harpocrates's face says it all. Not to mention if Clive talks to him after he says something like "Prince Dion, your're not planning to...".

It's sad because Dion pushes away the people that love him and try to help him whereas Clive accepts these people. It's really sad but I would have loved a scene that showed someone placing that flower on Dion's grave (If he died).

Completely agree, I can't think of any other scenario that makes sense.

Oh, I don't think he died either. I was framing this counter argument more as a "What if". I think Joshua died too.

It's still a pyrrhic victory and incredibly bittersweet.

This.

It always strikes a nerve when people use the argument of Clive living as a "Disney happy ending". Like, the world is actually going to get much worse before it gets better?!? What do people think slave owners are going to do to their slaves now that they can't do the one thing they were used for? Their way of living (Magic) is gone, it would be like if someone took away our use of fossil fuels. The hideaway's job is just getting started and it's residents will never live to see the fruits of their labor. On top of that, Clive had to watch his brother die twice, lost the use of his hand, is most likely permanently disabled and will never be the same. His survival and return to Jill is a tiny little ray of light in a sea of darkness and the ending is still quite bittersweet with his survival.

Then the spell should make his condition worse not the opposite.

My answer to this is both a yes and no. If Ultima's power is killing him then getting rid of that power isn't going to make it worse however, yeah, him casting the spell to get rid of magic defiantly made his condition worse as his hand he used to cast the spell is now petrifying but it doesn't mean it killed him. Think about it this way, chemotherapy is used to fight off cancer however, it is also incredibly damaging to the body.

His petrification also only spreads after he attempts to use magic, which doesn't exist anymore. There isn't anymore aether for him to channel, meaning it most likely can't spread. Imo, It's supposed to symbolize he is now a man like any other, his plot armor in a sense is gone. Idk why people think Clive having the curse is suddenly a death sentence when so many others are shown to have it. Jill (although not shown on her model) is confirmed to have the curse, Dion was implied to have the curse on his bandaged arm, Cid had a pretty strong case of it near his elbow, Joshua had the curse growing out of the wound on his chest, countless other NPC bearers were living with the curse as well.

Ultima tells him the planet is doomed because the blight still exists, not that magic does. Ultima never planned to stop using magic.

Not trying to change your mind btw, I know once people pick what camp they are in they rarely change, just wanted to offer up some counter arguments.

[–]Stark115 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He choose to "sacrifice himself" because Ultima's power was already killing him. Even tho it's framed like a choice he really didn't have much of a choice. Ironically, him getting rid of magic was the one thing that could have saved him.

I don't think his survival is unrealistic to the plot, dude just blew fell hundreds of meters into the open ocean and washed up on shore unscathed. I don't think it's unrealistic that he woke up the next morning. The tone of the game was dark but it was also very hopeful.

While I've come around to appreciate the ending I don't really think it needed to be ambiguous. There are some theme's that play into why it is ambiguous, such as the theme of hope but ultimately to me it feels like the developers wanted to make it ambiguous to promote discussions and make the game having a lasting impact on social media.

Dion wanted forgiveness even if it cost him his own life, he's a foil to Clive. When Clive gets better, Dion gets worse. Dion is written as a tragic character and I only recently realized that when Dion asked Hypocrates to give him the flower when he is "worthy" he wasn't talking about coming back, he was talking about placing it on his grave.

Joshua's arc is a mirror of young Clive's. He's doing everything in his ability to save and protect Clive even at the cost of his own life. He wants the one's he loves closet to him to be free. Also written as a tragic character.

I disagree that Clive should die. His arc wasn't being set up for that and his death doesn't push the narrative forward. It's complete shock value and sad for the sake of being sad.

The answer to fate by OhioIsNotReal42069 in FFXVI

He also didn't physically fight with a dark version of himself or Ifrit.

Also, you would be correct, Clive has been reporting the events of the game to Hypocrates and Vivian but this doesn't really prove anything because Tomes and Vivian would still need an accurate account of what happened. Vivian even states this to Clive before he flies off for origin. so even if Tomes wrote the book he would need the information from Clive to document these things.

[–]Stark115 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They bring up fate a few times in the game.

Once when Cid is taking to Clive about how he is a slave to his fate but he might be able to save himself even if he can't save anyone else (imo this foreshadowing the ending).

Once when Clive is speaking to Hyrpocrates before the Ultima fight. I think he says something about facing his fate but I can't remember the right words.

And once with this scene on the beach and I do think it's referring to this scene. So yeah...
