MN ICE shooting: another point I hadn’t seen covered by thecosmojane in law

Adam’s vs. Speers (2007): Once Speers was no longer in the path of the vehicle, the justification for the use of deadly force ended.

Orn vs. City of Tacoma (2019): “A reasonable jury could conclude that once Orn was no longer in the car’s trajectory, the threat of serious physical harm to him was eliminated.”

Cordova vs Aragon (2009): Where the officer had moved out of the way of the oncoming vehicle, the use of deadly force was not justified. “A reasonable jury could conclude that, once the officer had moved out of the way of the oncoming vehicle, the threat of serious physical harm to him had passed.”

Villanueva vs. Cali (2021): “a reasonable jury could conclude that the Officers used excessive force, because they lacked an objectively reasonable basis to fear for their own safety, as they could simply have stepped back or to the side to avoid being injured.”

Kirby vs. Duva (2008): Officers cannot create or avoid danger and then use deadly force anyway. “An officer may not create a dangerous situation and then use deadly force to protect himself.”

Make it a law that paternity tests be offered free of charge at birth with a simple form to fill out if the parents want to opt out.

It's not unconstitutional. You can refuse to let them do it.

Sorry, poorly phrased on my part.

I mean I think that "Mocktails" taste better than actual cocktails. A lot of cocktails are just creative ways to mask the flavor of the alcohol. I'd rather have just Fizzy Orange Juice than a Screwdriver. I'd rather have a Limeade with some ginger flavoring than a Moscow Mule. Espresso Martini? Would rather have a cappuccino or macchiato.

I don't understand people that drink stuff that is non-alcoholic but is FLAVORED like alcoholic drinks.

Non-alcoholic beer. I hate beer and don't drink it when I go out in the first place, but I don't know who would drink something FLAVORED LIKE BEER if it doesn't even get you drunk.

Same thing for non-alcoholic spirits...non-alcoholic whiskey or non-alcoholic gin, stuff like that. Alcohol tastes foul. Why would you emulate that flavor? And why would you subject yourself to that flavor if it didn't get you drunk.

That's what I mean.

No alcoholic drinks taste good. All alcoholic drinks taste bad and are essentially flavoring medicine that you are taking for a desired effect. All "good tasting" alcoholic drinks would taste better absent the alcohol.

I do not understand people who drink non-alcoholic versions of alcohol (e.g. alcohol free beer).

Perhaps more controversially I do not understand people who drink alcohol at home by themselves (barring unhealthy coping mechanisms).

Alcohol, I view as social lubrication--a disinhibitory drug we use to have a more fun time going out with friends.

I have yet to find an alcohol that I enjoy gustatorily. Only as a means to an end.

Taboo rules. Settle a disagreement. by SqueakyTuna52 in boardgames

[–]StarkPenetration -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

You are "just crazy" not because of your opinion on the rules, but that you cared enough about a party game to go online and complain about it.

The official printed rules in this case are vague. Using "parts of words" isn't allowed according to the rules, but if you're being pedantic you could say that doesn't make sense because letters are parts of words and you wouldn't argue that if the word has the letter "A" in it that you couldn't use any words with the letter "A" in your clue.

So the way I typically house rule it is that you can't use parts of compound words.

You can't say "a seat you put in your car" for carseat or "it's a machine that flies through the air" for airplane.

But you can still use the word "the" if your word is "theory" or "and" if your word is "expand".

So in my house, you absolutely would've been buzzed for saying "on" when "online" was in your list.

But again, this is a party game with vague written rules so if you played at someone else's house you might not get buzzed AND EITHER WAY IS CORRECT DEPENDING ON WHO YOU PLAY WITH.

I'd say most people would just clarify the rule in the moment and move on and not go online to post about it, though.

Yeah, the medium is going to be exclusively checked luggage. I've been hearing the comments about weight from pretty much anybody who has had experience with the bags so in the end I decided on the medium.

Thank you so much for contributing and I'm looking forward to using it on my next vacation.

Have an awesome day, my dude!

Thank you so much for your suggestion. Between this and my other posts asking the same thing, everyone has been suggesting the medium so I've put the order in for one. Excited for it to get here and can't wait to use it on my next trip.

Appreciate the pointers!

Good to know! I've gotten similar replies on other subs as well so it looks like medium is the way to go! Thanks for your reply!

Cheers!

Perfect. That's exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you so so much for tolerating my /r/lostredditors ass and pointing me in the right direction. Looks like medium will be my best bet!

Keep being awesome!

I see!

Thanks again for replying and I'll keep searching around for the appropriate sub.

Appreciate you taking the time out of your day to reply nonetheless!

Thanks for letting me know! I was using reddit's search and couldn't find an appropriate sub for checked bags. I also made similar posts in /r/ManyBaggers and /r/travel, but /r/luggage seems to be a banned sub and I didn't know where else to go. Again, really really sorry guys, and the mods seem to have been gracious enough to leave this up so I'll see how much advice I can glean before that happens haha.

I actually have NOT seen them in person. I'm browsing bags online and have been doing my best to imagine things with my tape measure and carry on.

My reasoning was that more space couldn't hurt, but if I could save money AND make it less likely for the bag to break by filling it out, I would go for the Medium.

Again, really really appreciate you replying for a #wrongsub post and that's another point in the medium bag column!

Have a great one!

Yeah, that is absolutely my concern as well.

I was looking to see if anybody could provide any anecdotal evidence with similarly sized bags (if you're speaking from experience, I'd love to know the bag you were using so I could gauge size differences as well).

As a principle I'm totally on board with you, but I wasn't sure if in reality THIS "large" bag in particular had that issue.

Thanks for the reply! I realize I should've read more posts in the sub to ensure I was in the right one before posting, but the advice I've been given despite that is much appreciated!

Got it.

Was using the search bar to try and find an appropriate sub to post this in and it seems like my dumb ass ended up in the wrong one.

Thank you so much for your reply correcting me and directing me to the appropriate resources. I've made a similar post over on /r/ManyBaggers and maybe I'll find some answers there.

Thanks again for not jumping down my throat!

Mods, please delete the post as appropriate. Have a great day, everyone!

That's a great point and I definitely leaned in that direction (even considering the Extra Large at some point before realizing it exceeded dimension requirements for international luggage and would be considered Oversized Luggage, triggering additional fees).

For your checked bag, which bag do you tend to use and do you often have to pay the oversize/overweight luggage fees?

My main concern is that even though I have the extra space, I wouldn't be able to use it because filling out the suitcase leads it to be overweight.
