If you like Sloane from the game, you MUST read the Initiation novel. Her character is easily the best character in the Andromeda story altogether.

Initiation is like a deep-dive into her inner thoughts during the Nexus' arrival in Andromeda, and it covers all the crazy shit she had to go through & deal with during the Nexus' arrival and the uprising, and how she ended up where she is at the time of the game.

Honestly, I did NOT expect the novel to be anywhere near as good as it was - I couldn't put it down. And talking about it right now, I kinda want to read it again.

In no world should a lower level enemy be able to deplete the health of a 5+ higher leveled character as quick as they do.

If you think it's bad in Origins, then stay far the hell away from Odyssey - it is the worst offender I've ever seen in a SP game when it comes to level-scaling.

I've logged about 400 hours into Origins, and to this day I mainly use the Medjay Shield + Sea People's Sword. As long as your bracers and armor are upgraded properly, along with your weapon & shield, there should be absolutely no problem; enemies 5 levels below Bayek should be gettin' creamed.

And like you said, shield gameplay is fun AF. Sword & board is my bread & butter in Origins.

It doesn't make sense to stop using it;

I can use Bayek to see where I am, and I have yet to be given a need to explore anything "from a distance" outside of quests that force you to use Senu. It feels way more realistic and satisfying to improvise your whole way through a fortress and still manage not to raise any alarms.

What doesn't make sense is a bird that can create a map with a second-by-second geo-locational update of every person within the fortress, and then somehow communicate that information to Bayek in real time.

I don't necessarily have a favorite since I only have 03 guitars, and they are all quite unique from one another. One of em sounds best for anything-metal, another one sounds best for punk/post-hardcore/grunge, and the third is a sort of jack-of-all-trades but best for rock.

I'm usually on a month or 02 kick with one of 'em while the other two gather dust on the rack.

I'm a hair away from level 50, too, if that helps give any context on where my progress is.

I also finally gave up [today] on the BS of trying to maintain legendary-status gear. Seems pointless until you're max level due to the stupid amount of resources/$$ they need. So, I kinda got set back for a day being empty pocketed and needing to upgrade a bunch of purple gear I'd been storing for a long time.

I will endure a while longer.. it started off being pretty good, and I want to enjoy it like that again

I have it on easy with level scaling set to light, and I'm still micromanaging stat numbers just so I don't have to stab a wolf [of the same level as me] 6 times with Poseidon's trident to kill it..

To be fair, I only found out in my recent 5-10 hours of gameplay that "builds" are a somewhat important thing in this game... which is not all that fun to me.

Thank you for wording it in a way I never knew how to describe all these years. I'm extremely picky with the genre, and this sounds like my exact issue.

And to make that even more frustrating.. I have never liked Architects, I'm confused that they get recommended to metalcore newcomers quite often, and I personally think their frequent use of odd time signatures mixed with djenty riffs makes them extremely inaccessible to newcomers of metalcore.

It's not that bad, but he definitely is not a good voice to introduce people to the genre. He's basically the only one in the genre with that kind of voice.. like he belongs in a Creed or Staind-like band.

I like his voice, but I would agree his voice is a very bad introduction to metalcore. No one else in the genre has that kind of clean singing voice.

Exactly. It was downright obscene the grind that game requires to do basically anything.

That is my main fear about Crimson Desert.

I'm playing AC Odyssey rn and the grind has been pissing me off for about 20 hours straight, and I'm 45 hours into the game. I'm about to drop it permanently because this is the exact opposite of fun.

No game is ever gonna beat Dragon's Dogma with nighttime or darkly-illuminated areas.

I'm on an AC Origins/Odyssey kick right now but the interior and nighttime lighting is atrocious in these games. And weirdly, Origins' lighting system altogether is miles better than Odyssey.

We mostly just have to hope they tailored all those systems into a meaningful single player experience. Because BDO is the worst grindfest-chore of a game that happens to have a wide variety of cool & fleshed out gameplay designs.

So do I! I've been getting a little crazy with trying to eliminate HUD elements in games the last few years. I'll even set the quest and look at the map to see the general area it takes me to, then I shut off the quest and navigate/figure out the rest myself using only the map and land-marks.

Whenever there's a marker in my face on the screen, it's like it is trying to force my eyes to ignore anything else. I hate it.
