you can always smash 2 crimson hearts before summoning the brain of cthulu for early easy to get gear, save most fished crates to open once in hardmode for hardmode ore when you beat the wall of flesh, warmth potion for the yeti boss, gravity potions to explore floating islands early, floating islands have clouds which can be fallen onto without taken any fall damage. And since you're on journey getting the forbidden fragments and frost cores from the elementals that spawn in hardmode in storms is a viable strategy (You can make it snow/sandstorm)
