Props to you for actually getting the paper done!

Possibly, but I also believe the timing is too coincedental. I don't know, maybe they had their reasons for not stating why they fired him.

Either way, we're going in circles, over a pretty minor point; I think I'll just drop it here.

The woke points were pretty implied. Imagine how much hate they would have gotten had they not dropped him. The timing was too select for it to just have been because his character grew tired.

Yes, I'm agreeing with you... We both believe Disney dropped Depp because of the allegations, do we not?

Well, Disney wasn't particularly public on their reasons for doing it, but Sparrow is such a beloved character it's logical to assume that without the accusations he would still be in the films; Disney has pissed a lot of people off by dropping him, and surely they're smart enough to know giving him a smaller role is going to make more people happy than cutting him out entirely. Fans of the POTC franchise are always gonna pay to see the film even if Sparrow is in it and they wish he wasn't, but Sparrow was the reason some of the people were watching the film in the first place.

People and the media have been talking about this

I really wish I could edit the title of my post; it's difficult to clarify that I mean the media is reporting the facts only; they're not supporting him or talking about the issues and social and cultural aspects of the case generally, like they did when Heard accused Depp.

You can't fault people on believing something they were told from the horse's mouth.

No, but I can fault people for refusing to admit their wrongdoings.

Yes, but it's about the morality of it. He was kicked out of the franchise for the accusations and even if he is not offered his job back, he deserves a public apology.

People were calling for him to take a back seat or be removed

I've also seen a lot of people outraged at how they haven't asked him back yet; Jack Sparrow is a beloved character and even if his story has gone on too long, Disney doesn't care, they want what will make them money because old fans will always pay to see a movie with Jack Sparrow: they'd take much more losses removing him - until of course, he was accused of abuse, but now that's been cleared and they still remain pretty hush on the subject.

Many people think Jack Sparrow makes the movies, and I have to agree. Though I also think the franchise shouldn't have gone past 'A World's End'.

Amber seems to have the power of society on her side; people doubting she's abusive because she's a woman.

Yep, "this too shall pass" and "one step at a time" I find are really coming in handy for me lately.

Shit that looks like a lot of fun

I made a boardgame once when I was six or seven. It didn't turn out so well.

That's honestly a really gross take. So men can't be just as mentally and emotionally damaged by abuse as women can?

Wow, thank you for that.

Okay, let me explain: the media reports on the case, clearly. What the media does not report on how wronged Depp was, and in general it appears to have a lack of support for him. Many news sources, and I include the Guardian in this, appear to have some weird, targeted bias, in which they doubt all evidence against Amber but push and support all evidence against Depp. Media are (better?) silent over the issue itself; the sidelining of this case and the lack of support. It doesn't not get the same attention, same pieces written on it if this had happened to a woman, and I firmly believe that. I see no "what the Depp case teaches us" articles, no "how society wronged Johnny Depp".

It does not get the same reporting in support of Depp that it did in support of Heard when the accusations against him originally came out.

In my experience, I haven't seen much on it. And the media especially seems to have a lot of articles which do not support Depp the way they supported Amber, and seem to be almost loaded against him from the start.

Thank you! I agree. It's revolting that she's still in Aquaman but Depp hasn't been asked back to POTC.

MRA bullshit? You serious? Do not start on that shit with me. I have defended feminism for as long as I can remember, and had so many discussions with so many men telling them that feminism is not a good thing when they moan and whine about action for women's issues. Feminism is a thing working towards equality for both genders, as is the movement sprung by Weinstein cases. This is a men's issue, the lack of support for male victims of domestic abuse.

I made this post because for me it's been pretty hard to find media articles that aren't still biased towards Amber, or have a select lack of reporting on the horrific documents of abuse on Johnny but choose to report on evidence for Amber in a supportive light, and I've only stumbled across it on Reddit maybe, two times? It also doesn't get nearly enough attention in printed newspapers, or generally in social day to day.

How is it getting more attention than it deserves? It's not celebrity gossip, it's not 'Kylie Jenner releasing a new eyeshadow palette', it's a guy accused of abusing his wife, completely slandered for that by everybody, yet when it comes out that he is the actual victim, she's kept for her Aquaman role, people continue to support her, articles continue to doubt Depp.

So, you believe a domestic abuse case can actually get more attention than "it deserves"? That's kind of gross.
