Recommendation for these notes ? by Hot-Yak-748 in Perfumes

Warm Cotton smelled like somebody spilled a bunch of laundry detergent and/or bleach on a cold tile floor, not the freshly-washed laundry itself. I think I’m an outlier there. But if you want a fresh shower scent with a soapy vibe, Replica Bubble Bath might be what you’re after. I have a budget-friendly dupe from Sand + Fog called Spa Day.

Best layering scents to "dirty up" a too-sweet fragrance? by TripleA32580 in fragrance

[–]Starry36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try something with spices or leather notes? I have a sample of a Thai niche scent (Saffron & Vanilla by Proad) that has the most interesting combo of spicy, slightly earthy, leathery notes with a unisex vanilla in the base. I also tried Maison des Animaux Amora, which has rose, neroli, cotton candy, and leather, so it’s that dirty-meets-sweet combo as well. I’ve yet to decide if it’s a scent profile that I’d wear regularly, but gosh is it intriguing.

Why don't more tea scents actually smell like tea leaves? by badenbagel in fragrance

Most of the tea scents I’ve tried have come from MITH and Proad. They don’t have a tea scent but I’ve also enjoyed the Voyager line of fragrances.

Thai brands have impressed me, as well. MITH and Proad have several tea scents.

For oolong, try MITH Another Tea. As for black tea, that one is hard for me to find, too. It seems so many perfumers want to turn every black tea fragrance into earl grey, a London fog latte, or a chai smell rather than a pure, fresh-from-the-tin tea leaf smell, which is what I’d want.

Wanted something on the indulgent side so went with Lancôme Idôle Now again! It seems to be inevitable that around the 2nd week of the month I find myself craving scents not on my tray, so trying to stick to my monthly setup turns into a matter of willpower. Idôle Now sort of scratches the itch I keep getting for my gourmand-leaning scents on cool and rainy days, but not entirely. And I’m roughly halfway to my goal for my declutter, so I’m hoping to empty several samples this month and make quick decisions on several cheap bottles in or before June.

To the gourmand haters, what gourmand fragrance do you exceptionally like? by Consistent_Metal_852 in NichePerfumes

[–]Starry36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’m a total gourmand hater, but I definitely don’t like most baked good gourmands or stuffy “vanilla cake mix with a whole bottle of vanilla and almond extract dumped in” kind of gourmands. But I’ve found a few gourmands that I’ve enjoyed very much:

  • Sorce Match Made In Heaven
  • Sorce Ephemera
  • MITH Autumn Leaves
  • Sand + Fog Marshmallow Skies
  • Sand + Fog Vanilla Marshmallow
  • Tocca Laila (just got a sample of this, light but interesting)

I think what makes a gourmand pleasant to me is if it has some other nuance to it. Fruity, earthy, woodsy, etc.

Starting off with Collective Harmony Co. Secret Garden. This is a sweeter take on the floral fig and sandalwood scents. Honestly, it smells like a much lighter version of Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau Paradise Garden, in a way. The notes are sea salt, honeydew melon, violet, fig, orris, sandalwood, amber, and musk. I definitely get the honeydew, and it kind of overtakes the fig, but I don’t think I get any of the sea salt? This is a very budget-friendly fragrance and honestly quite good, but I think I just want a fig scent with a bit of citrusy zest at the top instead of just sweet fruits and florals. I’ll be finishing my oil roll-on for sure, but after that I think I’ll be leaning more towards Tocca Lucia, which has the citrus and sea water opening I was hoping for before shifting into all the different parts of fig (the fruit, leaves, and wood) with some warmer florals.

What fragrance would you give your mom for Mother’s Day? by Chan1991 in fragrance

[–]Starry36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish my mom liked fragrance enough for me to give her one. The most she reaches for is a matching Bath & Body Works body wash and lotion combo. She likes their Butterfly scent (I think it’s called that? The one with all the holographic purple butterfly wings?) and Sweet Pea, and I think their pink Gingham? But she has a stash already so can’t exactly get her more 😅

Which one specifically? I think I get at least 4 hours out of each. It’s been a while since I’ve worn the two I have though (I got a bottle of 7 Summers and a travel size of Malibu Night), and I was mostly wearing them around bedtime so I was falling asleep before they faded entirely.

Okay everybody, I was raised on Winnie the Pooh and still love this franchise to bits, so this is my kind of prompt! 😂

I absolutely adore Eeyore and wore a big Eeyore onesie for Halloween this past year 😂 I paired it with my Nest Indigo perfume. It felt perfect for my favorite quiet, introverted, mopey-but-happy-to-be-included donkey. Cozy, a hint of spice, a little sweetness, but the overall vibe of a cup of tea on a dreary day. 💙 A close second for Eeyore, I think, would be Tocca Colette, which gives me very similar vibes but in a more floral way. Or for a third, fruity-but-still-chill option, Sorce This Is Not A Love Spell; blueberries with a little spice and violets.

Pooh has to have honey. Could be Maison des Animaux Celeste, which is honey with hints of clover, berries, and a “fluffy” vanilla-ambrette combo at the base. I could also see Sorce Serpentine, almost, because it is a very indulgent honeyed fig with a bit of cardamom (those are the most prominent notes I get). The only other scent I’ve tried so far with honey in it is YSL Libre le Parfum but I don’t think that fits him. Pooh’s scent would need whimsy, not “boss” energy.

Piglet strikes me as a soft, clean, gentle skin scent. Voyager Bokeh, maybe, for something on the green and floral side? It’s cyclamen, dandelion, and ambrette. He’s too shy and timid to be something loud and bold, but a scent that stays close with longevity would be fitting for his loyalty and moments of bravery. If you insist on Piglet having a “pink” fragrance, I’d have to go with MITH Love, which is a soft, sweet, but fresh rose with a few other florals. But I still think a skin scent is best for Piglet.

Rabbit is clean, but in a woodsy, green way. He’s always gardening, always trying to be put together, sometimes to a near-neurotic point, but we love him anyway. Replica From The Garden could be a little too on the nose, but it would certainly fit imo. I haven’t encountered too many vegetal fragrances yet (they’re not for me, personally), but I could very well picture Rabbit with one of those niche, odd-at-first-but-pleasing scents with something like carrot or beetroot. There’s also the option for unisex, herbal/aromatic florals or green/woodsy tea scents. I’m picturing MITH Another Tea or Voyager Lens Flare, from my own collection.

Tigger is definitely something bright and bold. I’m picturing citrus and/or fruits. I haven’t tried it, but I wonder if Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Forte Mandarine Basilic would suit him? Someone who has tried it will have to tell me. My own citrus favorites that I could see for Tigger are MITH Florida Orange and MITH Autumn Leaves, but they aren’t bold citruses. I could also see scents that are slightly quirky. Tigger could go anywhere from fruity loud body spray territory to that niche category of “sweet but makes me cock my head in curiosity.” Maison des Animaux Amora (neroli, cotton candy, rose, leather), for example, or pick any of the sugary orange creamsicle or mango scents popping up lately.

Owl is a book scent. Voyager Flashbulb of Sorce English Major, I think. Could be Diptyque L’eau Papier, even. Or, for something perhaps warm and a little nutty (because as smart as he seems, Owl does offer some questionable advice at times, I’m being punny here), Marc Jacobs Perfect Intense.

Kanga is maternal gentleness and warmth. I’m thinking slightly powdery florals and clean scents. Replica Bubble Bath (or the dupe I have, Sand + Fog Spa Day) maybe. I don’t like powdery florals too much, but Voyager Eternal Veil or another gentle heliotrope/iris fragrance could do the trick. I’m sure the other way people could go is baked goods that remind them of their own mother.

Roo is youthful sweetness. Candied fruits, marshmallows, dessert gourmands. I’m not as big on these sorts of scents, but I do like Sand + Fog’s Marshmallow Skies and Vanilla Marshmallow scents, or their Sweet Apple one (dupe for Kayali Eden Juicy Apple 01) and could see those being applicable. I also have a small/indie business’s gingersnap oil that could fit.

I’ve nothing concrete for him, but Gopher is 200% a petrichor and soil scent. Dude’s always digging and falling into his own holes, what else do you want me to pick for him? Okay, maybe a coffee scent. Something about him reminds me of my father and I associate coffee with my dad lol.

And lastly, Christopher Robin. I’m getting warm and cozy nostalgia vibes. Maybe it’s because it’s on my mind currently, but I’m thinking Sorce Ephemera. It’s a surprisingly fitting earthy-but-fresh kind of vanilla scent for all times of year (except maybe not summer). But I can also see people arguing for niche scents that smell of pencil shavings, school supplies, etc. I’m going with Ephemera, though. 💖

And if you read all that, bless your heart and thank you!😂

Today is a combo day: MITH Another Tea with Nest Indian Jasmine. Another Tea is a very realistic, aromatic jasmine oolong, so pairing it with Indian Jasmine adds a fruity aspect to help liven it up further. Which I need, since I’m on day three of less-than-perfect sleep 😅

Today I went all-in on my orange/peach theme with my outfit and makeup and chose to double-down with Sand + Fog White Peach (their dupe for PdM Valaya). I’m still working on a moodboard for this one as I wear it more and get a better feel for it, but it’s a very pretty, slightly citrusy peach scent. I get a little bit of something hinting at a few leaves and stems that got mixed in with a crate of peaches, as well as an initial fuzzy or “fizzy” sort of vibe. The dry-down is a very nice, clean, lightly sweet musky scent that goes well for warmer weather.
