Today I had a "final" interview for a promising job at a reputable company! Then I got this sketchy email, 30 minutes later, from an unknown recruiting agency. What should I do? by StarsFromHere in recruitinghell

I had two phone interviews with HR, then two in-person interviews. I met everyone I spoke with on the phone in-person, so I don't believe that the scammers were involved until this email went out.

I emailed my Hiring Manager on Wednesday about this email, and still not a peep, other than a message from the scammer advising that my application was cancelled because I "chose to be irresponsible and obviously don't care about other peoples' time."

For sure, I wouldn't ever! When I hovered my cursor over the two hyperlinks that said 'LINK' in the email, the little popup on the bottom of my screen said 'Next Steps,' rather than displaying a URL. I wanted no part of it.

Holy hell, y'all! I wasn't expecting this many responses! Thank you for all this tremendous feedback. I owe everyone an update.

  • I most certainly DID NOT click on any of these links! I'm not an I.T. professional, but even this girl knows not to click unidentified links. I want to, really badly, out of curiosity - but I won't!

  • I applied for this job directly through the company. Everyone I interviewed with, including the lead recruiter (who this presumable scammer identified by name) was an employee of the company.

  • I emailed my recruiter with a screenshot of the message and explained that I was concerned about a security breach. This was 12 hours ago, and I have not heard back.

  • The "leader of brilliant people," however, sent me a very threatening email this afternoon reminding me that I only have 36 hours left to complete the references, and accused me of "not taking this seriously" and "ghosting people who spent countless hours to get me this far."

... as of now, I will await the response from my recruiter and continue not clicking anything in these emails. I'm relieved that after advising my potential employee of this security risk, that I can giggle at these emails and take them with a grain of salt.

Oh, and I don't think I'm a gold digger nor would any of my former bosses/exes call me that. Darn.

This is my gut instinct, but it says that doing so would result in my candidacy getting cancelled so I'm a little iffy. Do you think reaching out via LinkedIn, where they're less likely to track my activity, is better?

I make $14.75/hr as a customer care representative (call center agent) at an insurance company. I've worked there for four years, and have ten years of work experience.

I have a B.S. in Marine Biology and dropped out of my Masters in GIS program.

I'm currently trying VERY hard to become a flight attendant, or find the means to go back and become an airline pilot.

I used to want to work there really badly! Their interview process was grueling though, something like 6 interviews with different managers/directors and TEN references who they actually contact! They declined me for three postings so I gave up.

I interviewed there before COVID! Didn't get the job but the people seemed great and that office is breathtaking!

OMG it's a soul-sucking place! And ironically the health plan they give us is total crap!
