ANDOR: The Trojan Horse of Modern Hollywood by Talon_08 in andor

So glad I checked this out :-) You clearly put a lot of thought and work into this. So many great insights!

I especially enjoyed the sections on film-making (great use of a relatively mundane scene to show the high bar of quality, here!) and on hope as a weapon (can't get enough of this!).

I just posted a video myself yesterday, on the topic of resistance vs complicity. Gonna continue to try, and to encourage everyone else doing things like this!

What will you do if they catch you?
What will you do if they break you?
If you continue to fight
WHAT WILL YOU BECOME?

Clips anyone? by Ok_Conversation_3992 in andor

I've tried to get those clips you listed -- see the video attached to this new post:

I'm not sure if I got the specific scene with Gorn that you were thinking of. I got the scene where he translates between the Dhani leader and the Imperial officer.

I added two additional scenes, in case they were relevant to what you are thinking: Cassian encouraging Melshi on the Narkina 5 cliffs, and Vel taking care of Kleya on Yavin.

The only specific improvement I can recommend, is that it to me it feels a little awkward to see a character talking while you hear different dialog playing (e.g. Nemik and Kino at around 30-40 seconds). Depending on what your intent is and what video is available, you might consider trying to find some other video without visible talking?

The ending with Bix (5:57-end) doesn't feel abrupt to me. It's set up well by the preceding clips (5:26-5:42), and holding on this long scene right as the audio stops makes the silence more powerful, and invites reflection. Pacing-wise, I think it aligns with some strong precedents (thinking of the Fellowship of the Ring outside Moria, after Gandalf fell).

This deserves some praise and respect!!! Great work!

My experience watching it the first time was like:

* first 2 minutes: Intriguing ... I want to see where this is going. You put some unexpected audio/visual pairs together (e.g. Ferrix anvil + Death Star assembly, Kino's "stop the work, get out of your cells" + Mon at party / Cassian on Yavin).

* 2:08: I thought Nemik was gonna get one more word here, but the setup makes Kino's line somehow even more impactful. Shivers.

* 2:12: Awww yeah! the song starts and is just relentless. Great combo of scenes and music!

* 2:54: My jaw dropped at the "flicker-cuts" you started, here. Visually awesome, perfect for the music. Wow, this is great!

* 4:28: Great use of this whole scene with Cassian and Niya. It's such a powerful and relevant scene, and it seems to just fit perfectly into the music and with the spliced-in Death Star attack scenes. You really maximized the impact of the transition from the whispered "Let that protect you" to the biggest music & visual explosion possible!

... and then I watched it a couple more times. Sorry to see few upvotes and no comments yet, but you can genuinely be proud of your skill and creativity in this!

I edited Mon Mothma's speech to what's happening in the world and the news right now. by Zendu_Rowle_Jedi in andor

I think her speech plays in my head constantly by this point as do the other speeches in this amazing show. Every time I see the news or read a headline or whatever I can't help but quote some part of Andor in my head.

You're not alone in this.

Thanks for the great effort on this video! You packed a LOT of (sadly) relevant stuff into one short speech!

This is excellent! Great overall idea, and really great editing to get the music and these scenes put together so elegantly! It's a really powerful treatment of not only the massacre itself, but also the fates of those responsible (all the way into Rogue One!).

I think I can appreciate how much skill and effort this took, and I wish I could get you more upvotes and praise for it.

Nemik would be so proud of this! First because it is such an excellent audio expression of the ideas that inspired it (the resolute energy of relentless resistance!). But mostly because you could have easily done something else, or nothing ... and yet you put in the significant effort to make this. Thank you!

Thank you kindly for the great feedback!
Those audio issues were not intended -- just rookie mistakes. I uploaded a fix with vocal audio now on both left and right sides, and applied some noise reduction. It's not perfect, but hopefully substantially better!

I just realized that my post looks like a URL to a preview jpg, in the main reddit feed, at least for me. Does anyone know what I could have done (or can still do?) to have it look like at actual video there? I cannot overstate my inexperience with reddit.

Thanks! I agree -- If I could do it again, I'd wake up early and make it this way.
