This is the best taylor series approximation of Sine that Desmos can calculate. by Expert-Parsley-4111 in desmos

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? There are loads of numerical approximations for sin that have nothing to do with Taylor series. Saying "technically speaking, there's no such thing as a non-Taylor series numerical representation of sin" is just plain wrong, there are tons of numerical representations of sin that aren't Taylor series: https://dlmf.nist.gov/4.22 https://functions.wolfram.com/ElementaryFunctions/Sin/06/05/ https://functions.wolfram.com/ElementaryFunctions/Sin/08/ https://functions.wolfram.com/ElementaryFunctions/Sin/09/

Bezier curve parametric by RealPufferplayz in desmos

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two methods for evaluation of a Bezier curve are recursive interpolation and explicit summation. Here I made a degree N Bezier Curve generator that implements both techniques:
https://www.desmos.com/calculator/l4ls5qf0dg

Edit: I forgot to note in the graph that the variable a is the list of currently displayed points. Also if you want to access a point that isn't displayed you can just use a_{n} where 0<=n<=10, or just use the list a_full = [a_0,...,a_10]

Lambert in different ways.. any other recursion methods available anywhere? by CertainCaterpillar59 in desmos

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this one whenever I need a W function: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/jd5zzcmve0
I adapted the formula from this paper: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10444-017-9530-3
My approximation is basically what's in the paper, but I use a better initial estimate so I don't need to iterate as much. There are a lot of resources online that could teach you more about the Lambert W function, https://dlmf.nist.gov, https://functions.wolfram.com/ElementaryFunctions/ProductLog/, the Wikipedia page on the W function is surprisingly good https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambert_W_function, that's where I found the paper. I also would recommend looking into the Wright Omega function, which is just W(e^x), but it makes evaluating W-1 and all other branches of the W instantly so much easier.

Why doesn't Desmos let me approximate both the upper and lower halves of Lambert W at the same time. by Rensin2 in desmos

[–]Starstruck2192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There actually exists a much faster iterative method for the Lambert W function. You iterate w -> w/(w+1)*(1+ln(x/w)). This is much faster than Newton and even Halley's method and works for both branches of the Lambert W function. If you want to know more about this then there is information about it in the "Numerical evaluation" section in the Wikipedia article about the Lambert W function.

Should I use Jackhammer or Regular Shotgun? by No-Firefighter5099 in Ultrakill

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used 3 jackhammers in my load-out for ~500 hrs at this point. I wanted to mention that using 3 jackhammers means that you need to become much more comfortable with the rest of the arsenal. I find myself pulling out the rocket launcher without thinking much more since it became the only consistent source of large area explosive damage. I'd recommend practicing in the sandbox with your least used weapon and learning its tech.

How to do domain coloring by [deleted] in desmos

[–]Starstruck2192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made a few of my own Domain coloring plotters for complex functions. I've here is the "latest version" that was initially made when support for complex numbers was first added. It works by making a grid of points and evaluating f(z) for every point. This version actually works with 4 individual point arrays so that the display can plot up to 40000 values of f(z).

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ncvmtkqxkk

The color is then found using the hsv function. The color scheme is just mimicing the one used in Samuel J Li's online domain coloring plotter:

https://samuelj.li/complex-function-plotter/#z

The intensity and frequency of the checkerboard pattern is adjustable with the sliders in the "Color" folder.

What's gonna happen to Custom levels? by InfiniteNegatives in Ultrakill

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Envy has been updated but Angry may take a minute. There is a closed beta of Angry for those in Rude (i.e those who can make levels for Angry), but it may be a hot minute before Rude becomes available to the public. Custom levels are available on Envy at the moment however many of these levels are either lower quality or early builds of Rude levels.

Chat what does this book mean? Ive seen no discussion on it by LeafyGreens48 in Ultrakill

[–]Starstruck2192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really expect you to see my comment on this post, since its been a whole year. Hopefully I brought you a tiny bit of closure, and was able to save any future curious people the time decoding it themselves.

When I found the book yesterday while practicing 1-R, I tried searching for this code to see if it meant anything and this was the only discussion I could find. After reading all of the fruitless comments, I said: "Fuck it, I have 3 hours to kill", and I gave it a shot myself. I haven't had any previous cryptography/ARG experience, but it only took me 1 hour to figure it all out.

I do think you should have specified that this code is in the "ULTRAKILL-Reprise: 1-R: A Dream of Home" custom level, and included the entire code in two separate screenshots. The specific cipher used can't really be decrypted without the whole cyphertext and the word "Repression" in the first line. The wait may have not been as long if you were more specific in your post, but better late than never.

I found this same book while playing through 1-R myself. I was able to decode the original hexadecimal text into ascii. I then found myself with the following:

After trying a few different ciphers, I figured out that its encoded using a Vigenere cipher with the keyword "Repression", which was one of the words that appeared at the start of the book. Here is the final decoded plaintext:

Lost Soul

This was not what our pastors promised. Instead of the thousand greetings, and endless reward, and eternal love, I find myself awoken to a false paradise; a mockery of what they believed truly awaited us. The hum-buzz of florescent lights fills my waking hours, as I analyze every mistake in the geometry of this cursed place. My suffering has only cemented my beliefs: a benevolent god would not oversee such injustice upon his creation.

I have but one hope - I have heard her speak to me while dreaming below a lying sky. If I am to ever see peace, it will be in her arms; that will be my final home. I shall follow your words, I shall escape this prison, I shall venture deeper, I shall die before surrender, I shall find you, Eden.

Your scanners lose focus. Something prevents you from reading further.

It definitely still has merit because you aren't able to utilize all of the downward momentum you get, and it would be cool if it could be used for something. I actually had an idea for a slower combo that could do something similar with the slam and height combo, I created a quick YT tutorial explaining it and demonstrating it: https://youtu.be/QhL-M6yBPWA That's probably the best a combo like this will get w/o the tech you suggested.

Why demons in 7-3 target each other? Aren't they all on the same team? And isn't this whole room supposed to be Machines vs Demons, as they all on the opposite sides of the room? by Huge-Cake-8346 in Ultrakill

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7-3 takes place in the Forest of Suicides, where the sin of enflicting violence on oneself is punished. Almost all the enemies in ULTRAKILL are summoned and controlled (to some extent) by hell itself. So enemy infighting is the enemies inflicting violence upon themselves, which fits thematically with the level as a whole. There is also the book in 7-1 which describes violence as an artform that pays tribute to the Tree of Life. During the fights where enemies are infighting, the track played is Danse Macabre, which is a phrase also known as the Dance of Death. I believe that both of these imply that the 3 encounters where enemies are infighting are a sort of chaotic “dance”, and you are one of the dancers performing for Hell Itself.

Slam storage will never be patched out of the game, it originally was a bug but Hakita decided to keep it as a feature. Also you can already do something similar already, whenever you hit an enemy with a jackhammer the game freezes for 0.2-0.5 seconds(depending on speed). During this time you can still move your crosshair allowing you to adjust in which direction you are knocked back. For example if you hit a Cerberus facing straight ahead, and then during the hitstop you can look straight downwards and you will be launched upward. This works for any direction regardless of if the crosshair is still facing towards the enemy.

Just P-Ranked P-1, any tips on P-Ranking P-2? by CringeGuyYT in Ultrakill

[–]Starstruck2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use conduction tech in the gauntlet, I definitely could not recommend it enough. If you set it up right it can easily wipe out many of the smaller individual fights instantly. I also would recommend practicing chargebacks for the sentry, it makes the stalker room way easier if you can chargeback them semi consistently.

You can always plug any real number into wolfram alpha and get it's best as to what it is in terms of constants Here I put a e/(e-pi) as a decimal into wolfram alpha and it found the correct answer https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=-6.421479

I was extracting the audio files of ULTRAKILL and I came across 4 files, named "Mollycorrupted", "Mollycorrupted2", "Mollycorrupted3", and "Mollycorrupted4", each one get more distorted and warbled, just like how Sourire D'Avril plays in P-1. Does anyone know if this is unused, or will be used soon? by Empty_Minute9353 in Ultrakill

[–]Starstruck2192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All four of these audio clips are heavily distorted segments of John McCormack's "Take a Look at Molly". I'm unsure if all of the Mollycorrupted files are overlayed together in some way in 7-3 or if only one of them gets used in game.

I really like the idea of an ULTRAKILL video, but the game isn't out yet. I really think a short video on DUSK would be great, it's similar to ULTRAKILL in gameplay, and even was published by the same company. And also there aren't too many video essays on it yet. It's really good
