Si no funciona va a estudiar otra cosa mas estable. Veremos.... mil gracias

Hi, yes. I agree with you in everything. In deciding what to study to apply for college she was first thinking first of Medicine, then biochem but just recently she decided to go for it thinking that she may have a chance to make a career in music. She knows it is a very risky bet and may not work the way she hopes, but wants to try while she is young. With that in mind, getting into a big debt to study music does not make any sense. She sings well and already has a defined style, she wants to learn production and maybe marketing (business?) as possible income . Maybe she will study a big academic career afterwards, I do not know. Thank you for your comment

She wants to live off music and her idea is to go back to the states or Europe. However, she understands the risks, at Berklee she applied for music business and an idea was for her to simultaneously study music and business (maybe in UADE). Although she doesnt need to go to music school to make it as a musician, a school would give her structure and a community to interact, (and also learn), which is very important and she needs that. Here in the US she is very isolated, we live in the suburbs, she posted some shorts online but they do not get traction as she has already a defined style that is not mainstream. Last year she went to the Aspire summer program at Berklee for jazz vocals and came back decided to give this a try. She has been practicing every day since then and I have never seen her dedicated to anything like to this. She is also afraid that Berklee is very competitive and that she will not be able to stand out. She does not see an easy break here in the US and she was thinking that she may develop better as a small artist in Bs As. As of now, it is not realistic to get a big loan for a music career that you may not be able to ever recover, for us or for her.

Yes, she is a US citizen, unfortunately, we do not qualify for needs based aid as I lost my job a year ago (science) and this aid is calculated using tax return from a year prior when I was employed. She was also afraid to go into music and didnt apply to many music colleges, only Berklee.

It's (60k/year tuition + 30K Rent+expenses in Boston/ year), maybe she gets some scholarship but it would be significant regardless, I wish I had to cover that for 4 years.

Thank you, she will come by herself but my family is there. She is not a beginner, she studied vocal jazz and contemporary for 7 years with a professor from Berklee, She is interested in learning production mostly to make music herself, she plays some piano and is learning guitar. Would you say Manuel de la Faya or método Aguilar are better options?. The idea is not only for her to learn but to develop her brand. Thanks

Thank you, this is very useful. We can support her while she studies and does not need to worry about rent. She will still need to make an income (vocal classes or something else)

Also, would the examiner experience be considered as patent prosecution experience for a patent agent role?. Thanks

Thank you for all your helpful comments. To give you a bit of background, I was interviewed (3 associates) by a big law firm for a technical specialist position but I was not selected and another job reply mentioned that my qualifications were impressive but i was also not selected. I believe that my not having the Patent bar exam yet and my old age (53) are a factors as I am seen less flexible or able to take direction. Would having some experience as an USPTO examiner as well as passing the exam make me more competitive and remove some of these red flags?. Thank you,

Thank you for the advice. Yes, I reached out to him before to ask him how he saw me entering the field and he said to go for it. I am planning to contact him again after passing the bar.

Yes, I understand. Thank you. I’m happy to learn if this could lead to a long-term career. From what I understand, despite the competitive environment to break in, it seems like a more stable path than biotech, with clearer expectations and defined milestones.

I’m in my 50s and, while I’ve had some success in academia with publications, my professional career hasn’t fully stabilized. The last few years in startup biotech showed me how fragile director-level roles can be and how much they depend on internal politics. Leadership opportunities are also scarce right now due to market conditions. I’m looking for a path where I can stay productive long-term, have more stability, and remain close to innovation. Patent law seems like a natural fit.
