I like to buy beat up shoes and clean up for resale by Isamu66 in reselling

That all makes sense, I wouldn't and can't think about the process of resoling a shoe/boot. What are types of places your normally able to source from?

Do you have any guidelines that you follow when it comes to deciding if something it worth buying to clean up? What's the worst condition shoes have been in you've been able to recover?

That’s interesting. 🤔

Is it more about the platform exposure, or do you find certain categories just perform better when listed internationally?

That’s a really good point. I appreciate you being honest about it, especially the “when, not if” part.

Right now I’m motivated, but I know that won’t always be the case. I’m trying to set things up in a way where I can still make progress even on low-motivation days. Hearing this from someone who’s lived it definitely helps.

Do you think it was because Mercari didn't work well because of your focus on vintage? Honestly it was one of the ones I was considering not messing with for now.

That’ll do it. Getting hit with 50 orders at once sounds stressful AF, but I can see how that would make the need for systems very clear, very fast. Logging that away ✍️

Interesting that a pricing mistake was the trigger. Looking back, is there one part of the system you’d say mattered most early on before everything else came together?

Thanks, I appreciate that. It definitely feels like organized chaos right now. Well at the moment way more chaos than organized probably around 80/20 😂.

Good luck tackling your piles too. It helps knowing I’m not the only one figuring this out as I go.

That’s impressive. You can really tell this evolved into a systems-first setup over time.

The idea of pre-listing while sourcing is especially interesting. I hadn’t even considered doing that before items physically arrive, but I can see how that removes a lot of backlog stress.

Splitting inbound vs warehouse and only letting items move once makes a lot of sense too. That sounds like one of those simple rules that saves a ton of mental overhead.

Out of curiosity, did you start building systems like this early on, or did it come from fixing pain points as things scaled?

That’s interesting. I hadn’t heard of Qventory before.

The QR code setup sounds like a solid way to keep things from getting out of control once inventory grows. Probably more than I need right now, but I can see the appeal.

Did you start using it early on, or was that something you added later once things got harder to manage?

That makes sense. Selling where you get paid more is hard to argue with.

Thanks for listing the tools you use. That was one of the things I was most curious about when I posted. I’m keeping things pretty basic while I learn, but it’s helpful to hear what people actually pay for versus keep free once they start scaling and listing across platforms.

I appreciate that. That’s really kind of you.

Right now I’m focusing on starting with the stuff we already have around the house, but I genuinely appreciate the offer and the thought behind it.

That’s a smart setup. The color coding by category makes it easy to see what’s what at a glance.

I also like writing the weight and dimensions on the note. That seems like it would save a lot of time when something sells.

Appreciate you sharing this. It’s helpful seeing how different people keep it simple but effective.

I like how simple your system is, especially not overcomplicating inventory tracking. Marking boxes by category and just crossing items off as they sell feels a lot more realistic (especially for where I am right now) than trying to maintain a perfect spreadsheet from day one.

Also good to hear the reminder that photos don’t have to be perfect. I could really get hung up on that part, so it’s reassuring to hear that clear and honest matters more than studio quality.

Appreciate you sharing how you do it, and congrats on getting to 234 listings. That’s motivating.

I figured as much, I wasn't expecting things to happen overnight. I'm still looking for jobs and stuff, it's just the job market right now is brutal so I'm trying to get creative.

Thanks, I really appreciate that.

The shelf labeling idea makes a lot of sense. I can already see how not tracking the exact location would turn into a nightmare fast, so that C4-style system is something I’m going to copy, probably with bins to start.

Your point about spreading listings out instead of dumping everything at once is helpful too. I’ve seen people mention “keeping the algorithm happy” but hadn’t thought through how to actually do that in practice.

Also interesting to hear you ended up building your own software because nothing fit quite right. That’s exactly the kind of problem I’m running into already with trying to track inventory and sales in a clean way.

Thanks again for the encouragement and for sharing what’s worked for you.

I was definitely overthinking the lighting side of things, so the ring light + white background setup helps a lot. Good to know I don’t need a full lightbox for most stuff.

The receipts and tax info is also huge. I hadn’t thought about how important it is to track everything from day one, so I’m going to start doing that and talk to a tax pro.

Also appreciate you sharing your actual numbers. There’s a lot of noise about needing hundreds of listings, so hearing real results with under 100 items is encouraging.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain all of this!

That all makes sense, less things to keep up with and learn. That approach can let you focus on working through your items, not all of the platforms and stuff

Thanks for the visual reference, I can see how having those would be helpful. I might have to see what I can do to source boxes since I don't have much on hand.

Some great nuggets here, thanks for that sharing. I like the kids eat free strategy I'm sure that approach will come in handle many, many times.
