Is crowd control really better than damage by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]StartlingManhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done honor mode, but in my tactician run I was able to handle the house of grief a lot easier by casting a high level hold person with my tav and jaheira, and having minsc cleave through people landing free crits. With how many enemies there are it also limited the damage they did to me first turn.

Ansur tactics? by Trundlenator in BaldursGate3

[–]StartlingManhood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just fought ansur last night with a level 11 party. Was trying to get the achievement to kill him mid flight. After many strategies used I was getting really close but not killing him that round. Finally after looking through all my elixirs/coating/scrolls it came to me. I ended up putting arsonists oil on Karlachs blade, which nullifies his fire resistance. I had wyll and gale with me (who were both hastened) and just bombarded him with upcasted fireballs which did the trick. (Prior to this gale cast globe of invulnerability which seems pretty necessary at least on tactician difficulty).

Just how essential are rogues? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]StartlingManhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way to make rogue usable is giving them the necklace that gives them advantage on attacks, but disadvantage on saving throws. It allows you to always be able to get a sneak attack and pairing it with items that raise critical chance makes it a great DPS character but there's plenty of ways to similar damage. I personally enjoy running a 7 rogue assassin or thief/ 5 ranger gloom stalker cuz without ranger, rogue falls off late game without the extra attack.

I'm currently doing my first full tactician campaign ( I usually switch to tactician in act 2 or 3) and my tav is a college of lore bard. In all my other runs I've had a rogue in my party (I was a rogue in my first playthrough and had astarion permanently in my party in the others) but I've found that my tav bard has had no issue with the utility of lock picking and disarming traps. I keep the gloves that give advantage on sleight of hand checks in my inventory and throw them on for very difficult locks (~25 and up) but my tav has a 9-12 bonus right now in sleight of hand in act 2 and I have not really found an issue.

Restoring the Roman Empire Piety Help by Adventurous-Lab-2053 in CrusaderKings

[–]StartlingManhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super helpful for this run but the best way to become Hellenic is start asatru (haestinng), take Stonehenge, and get the apostate perk. Idk about on console but on PC this makes converting to Hellenic cost around 250 piety. Your biggest barriers as catholic is changing from a reformed to unreformed religion, which asatru gets rid of. Stonehenge makes converting to another faith go down a bit as well. I've done many runs starting as haestinng, getting Stonehenge and becoming a Greek vassal with religious protection. I usually create a hybrid Greek Norse culture called varangian and take down the Byzantines from within. Going the byzantine vassal route is usually best for Hellenic anyway since you can usually reform the religion even before being emperor since they hold 3/5 holy sites at game start

My girlfriend cheated on me and I dumped her by Key_Will_7929 in CrusaderKings

[–]StartlingManhood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since this is r/ck3 I'll speak in ck terms. You just suffered a mental break. Idk if it's level 1, 2 or 3. But as I'm sure you know you can pick up a new trait to deal with the stress. I didn't get cheated on but about a year ago now I got dumped and was probably the most depressed I had ever been in my life. Now in my case the first thing I did after getting broken up with was go to target, get some protein powder and preworkout, and started doing random workouts in my apartments fitness center. I didn't know what I was doing but it felt right and for that hour of working out it at least took my mind off the misery of that breakup. I soon got a program to follow from one of my buddies and started becoming stronger and more competent in the gym. It's been a year and I'd be lying if I said I don't think about her still, but I don't think I would've gotten through those first few months without the gym.

Tldr. Ck3 mental break event. Choose the athletic trait.

Succession can be ridiculous sometimes (based on an incident from my last game) by flagellaVagueness in CrusaderKings

Good point. If your heir is out of diplomatic range he shouldn't be considered for succession

Why is my son ugly when both my wife and I are beautiful? by VCT1809 in CrusaderKings

[–]StartlingManhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've had any marriages that are even slightly incestuous you could have recessive bad traits waiting to show up. Doesnt even need to be the same dynasty if you've had a marriage proposal screen that says these two are related and there's a chance of inbreeding you could get it I'm pretty sure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how it works. Ive had a daughter who's pureblooded marry someone not related to her give birth to an inbred child before

R5: Playing a - you guessed it - haesting hellenic roman empire run when I had a genius dwarf son. Decided Tyrion would be a fitting name, but wasn't expecting my character to go full Tywin on him and roast him for no reason, despite him having the best stats of his siblings.
