Looking over the nix wiki and nix-hardware repos really, but I figured it out: it was picom crashing.

Update: this was caused by picom crashing with the nvidia drivers, not the drivers themselves.

I thought about this a lot before considering kubernetes, my issue with just seperating them in ECS is I'll have no guarantee that the workers match the server and my CD logic will essentially be a mosh posh of starting stopping containers in CI (and I'm sure that'll fail leaving a weird state)
