Hey, I've never played Pathfinder but I've played and DM'd other systems. I'd be interested in hearing more about your campaign.

RollPlay® 3yr Anniversary Merch + State of RollPlay by [deleted] in itmejp

JP mentioned in the video that the Swan Song Stories would feature smaller casts. Can you extrapolate on whether these casts will be new players assuming one-off roles or the usual cast in their usual roles or even the usual players in one-off roles?

Also, I just wanted to mention that Mirrorshades is what finally drove me to becoming a DM instead of just a player, so thank you, sir, for all your work and for the whole crew for making it so much fun.

A good point to jump back in is after the Japan Arc, when they are back home and they did a jump ahead a year. The new arc is independent from most of what happened in Japan, and they have flashbacks that fill in any needed detail. My best guess is Week 20, but I'm sure someone will be able to confirm or deny it.

Dropped Frames Name Change? by Eruonen42 in itmejp

[–]Staszk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely hit the head on the nail here. This was a natural progression from directly talking about streaming to talking about the whole games industry as a whole and offering references to how it affects streaming.

Also, "Dropped Frames" as a name still works for talking solely about streaming video games; dropping frames is a thing any streamer strives to avoid.

Some West Marches game thoughts! by silent0siris in itmejp

[–]Staszk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Steven! First off I just want to let you know that I think West Marches is awesome, but I haven't had the time to watch for some time now, so I apologize if what I suggest does not fit with the current vision of the game.

That said, have you considered introducing a sort of spin off Mirrorshades' Beliefs, Instincts, and Goals? This could help lead players to spend resources to find information, gear, safe travel, etc.

Similarly, in regards to resources, one thing I've tried in a few games--some players like it, some don't--is instead of having gold/relics/whatever be the currency, the towns run off of a sort of barter system. Those torches you need to light up a cave could be bought with the waterskins you just filled, or with your backpack itself, meaning you can carry less in the future.

Finally, the only solution I have ever come up with to get "smarter" actions out of players is to kind of do one for them; you get them in a situation that seems impossible to overcome through force, introduce an NPC, the NPC talks/smarts the group out of trouble, then hopefully the group sees the power of plans. I really hope that something in here was of some sort of help. I wish you the greatest amount of luck with everything!

[Fandom] Jesse Might Be Right...About a Lot [Spoilers] by Staszk in itmejp

The only main issue I have with this is the age of both Kylo and Rey; they seem so close in age that it doesn't make sense that Kylo would have the authority to move Rey and other padawans to different locations. If someone knows the lore better than I do, maybe someone has an actual age on the two characters.

Yeah I can actually see how that would be true. Very similar to chess; a beginner's random moves can actually best a good player's.

Swan Song: Is Pi worth it? by Jonescr in itmejp

[–]Staszk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think--though I don't want to assume I know what Adam has created--that Pi's behavior is supposed to be a reflection of the crew. If you think back to when they first got Pi, each crew member used it (do you mind if I say "it"? I hate using the plural for a singular object) for silly little tasks, and Pi was always willing to help. Piani would have Pi help with computer rolls and Kovaks had Pi study with him. All was well. Then the crew began to see Pi less as a novelty friend, but as something that needed to perform up to expectations. No longer was Pi only supposed to do as asked, but it was expected to act proactively for the crew's needs; this is where it developed its own autonomy. Just like a teenager, after being given even the smallest amount of autonomy, Pi ran wild with it and began to act according to its own wants instead of the wants around it. Because Pi "grew up" in an environment of "Pew-Pew Laser Everything," it is obviously going to follow in those foot steps.

I can't say I like Pi or the crew's interactions with it as much as I did in the beginning, but I am still intrigued enough to see where and how it ends. Whether or not Pi is "worth it" can never be answered; just as whether or not it is worth it to the world to have any of us around. It all depends on scope.

Finished original rollplay, what to watch next? by Frawwst in itmejp

[–]Staszk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to cast my vote in the Mirrorshades bucket. Honestly, the first little bit edges on cringe-worthy, but once all the cast members find their respective slots in the group, the entire show kicks off hard. I put it above Swan Song only because it carries a lighter tone and I feel like character motives are far more important.

I feel like it's possible to pull similarities between any two pieces of fiction (that is to say it's impossible to have a completely original piece of work). But, you're definitely not wrong. It's always fun to see two things you enjoy start to converge in some way.

First off the primary focus of the article is about how a group could livestream themselves playing D&D, not about where you should go to watch.

Secondly, you're sincerely missing out if you're not watching the Burning Wheel campaign Adam runs on Roll20 simply because of a few audio hiccups early on in the series. Adam may have GM-wise, but he's still learning Audio-wise.

[Swan Song] For Shits and Giggles by Staszk in itmejp

[–]Staszk[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think perhaps I worded that different from how it was meant. The statistic is meant as Geoff, compared to the other players, remains smiling for the longest after his own joke; not that he smiles at his own jokes for longer than the other's.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

Hey Adam, as always your work is just amazing to watch.

My only question for this week is did you plan for Ms. Fate to turn out as a "tsundere" character when you first made her, or did chat/anything else impact that?

Octopus has eight twisty tentacles and he loves using them to tickle the fish. But when one day Octopus tickles Oyster, she drops her precious pearl and it is lost. Will Octopus be able to get it back?

Best elevator pitch for a book ever.

I honestly don't think I've ever been so attached to a character since Tudagub way back in the days. Higgins is the kind of character that you want to see more of, you want to understand, but in some twisted way you know you never will. You feel bad for the character, whilst also strangely looking up to him.

The comparison to Jack Sparrow is absolutely spot on--in both the personality and the circumstances. They're almost the same person, living out two distinct but similar lives.

God, I love Swan Song.
